Interaction with Guests
You will have total privacy during your stay. We are not on property, but usually stay up the road and/or are available by cell phone, text, or email anytime.
Please feel free to contact us if you need help finding something or just have a question. We love Asheville and are excited to share our town with visitors. Check the informational binder on site for additional contact info.
We have a handy person on call in the unlikely event there's a problem.
Secluded mountain property on a private road with a few neighbors. Really you can't even see the neighbor houses. You'll feel like the whole mountain is yours.
There is no public transit to the home. Flying Squirrel Cabin is on a private unpaved mountain road; medium grade to semi steep so front wheel or 4 wheel drive recommended. Travelers from airport-please rent accordingly.
Other Things to Note
**Amazing sunsets year around from the spacious, comfortable deck.
**Flying squirrels usually arrive mid summer and usually stay a couple of months. They reside in the trees by the side deck. Sit quietly at dusk to watch them gliding from tree to tree.
NO SMOKING in the cabin please.
This is bear country, Do NOT leave any food or trash outside at night. All excess trash must be put into trash bags (provided) and put in the covered bin outside.
The cabin is on a small septic system so do not put anything foreign into the drainage except TP. Thank you. .
Fenced area for small dogs only. Front deck is gated so dogs can be limited to decks and fenced area. Hike the loop road to walk your dogs or get some exercise. Dogs must be on leash during walks and cannot be left outside when you are gone. They must be crated inside when you go out. $10 per night per dog.
Great place to stay if you're looking for a retreat from a busier city. The views from the cabin are spectacular! Very clean with great decor. We visited in the winter so the deck was snow covered but we look forward to visiting again in the summer/fall- the deck would be great for evening bbqs or morning sunrises. Only about a 20 minute drive into Asheville. JB was easy to get into touch with and made sure we had everything we needed.
Mary was a terrific guest too. Sorry the ice and snow invaded the area and made the outdoor activities so difficult. I do hope you return when you can take advantage of our decks, grill outside, hike the area, and sit by the firepit. Thank you for taking care of our home we appreciate that everyone loves our decor as much as we do. You are welcome anytime. JB
The Flying Squirrel was exactly what we were looking for in our long-weekend getaway and JB made the entire process smooth and easy. The house was perfect for two couples and the kitchen and grill was great to be able to cook dinner at night. Great views from the deck and the fire pit area was fantastic! The Flying Squirrel is also just a short drive into Asheville. We hope to be able to come back again in the summer!
We had the most amazing time at Flying Squirrel Cabin. JB was a wonderful host and always prompt to reply to emails/text. The cabin is incredibly decorated! A beautiful mix of cozy Western style and modern industrialized pieces. The house was so clean and comfortable. We cooked all of our meals in the home and were provided all the utensils and supplies we needed. The open kitchen and living room space with all the glass windows will make you lazy - watch out!!! :) Also, the view was serene and peaceful. It was very easy to get a cab for the 20 min short drive in to downtown Asheville and back. In short, we had a glorious stay and would recommend Flying Squirrel to anyone looking for the peacefulness of a mountain cabin with a luxury feel.
Ginny, DuMont and I were happy to host you at our home in the mountains, Flying Squirrel Cabin. It has been amazing for us to share our home with Airbnb guests. It's been such an exciting experience for us. You were terrific guests, thank you for leaving the cabin in such great shape. You are welcome anytime, please come again. JB
First of all, Jb worked with me so that I could complete the registration process correctly. (I was having a computer issue.) As we communicated back and forth several times, she continued to encourage me to "stick with the process," and that I would eventually be able with work through the computer issue. She was right! I would have given up is she hadn't been willing to work with me.
The photos lived up to our expectations. What was a pleasant surprise was that the view was extraordinary. We felt so content being there (for 2 nights) that we decided to not leave to go exploring other areas.
I felt as if the owners were simply away and would walk back in any time. I say this to explain that we wanted for nothing as the cabin was so well stocked.
We were surprised at how close it was to Asheville and stopped there on our way home.
The Flying Squirrel Cabin was the perfect get away! Jb made sure we had everything we needed, complete with maps of the area and of the neighborhood! It was quiet, peaceful, clean, and cozy home with amazing views. Being off a private, steep dirt road in the mountains was perfect for us, and our dogs had a great time hiking around with us. Campfire under the stars was a total bonus. We only wish we could have stayed longer! Thanks so much to Jb, we had a wonderful and relaxing time and can't wait to come back again!
Jb and DuMont are wonderful people! They made sure we were happy with the cabin and I can't say enough wonderful things about them and the cabin. We had everything we needed for our week here. There are many recent movies and cool books. The view is very relaxing and the cabin is as well. The kitchen is stocked with many items to cook with. This is by far the best stocked kitchen we have ever seen. We are excited about future trips to Asheville and we hope to meet Jb and DuMont in 2015.
It was a pleasure to host you, Demeka and Angie, over the holidays and hope to meet you too. Thanks for choosing Flying Squirrel Cabin for your special occasion. DuMont and I wish you all the best in the future. Please come back, as promised. Maybe by that time I will have our vintage trailer, Flying Squirrel Roadhouse, ready and be able to stay up the road so we can have a retro evening by our silver palace. Y'all come back now! JB
Well if you want to have a wonderful and I mean wonderful weekend, this is the place for you. The house is just so darn cute. I felt so close to nature here. I had everything I needed to prepare real delicious meals. The outside fire was so relaxing. The house has so much character. I was able to do some late night early morning photos of a meteor shower. The squirrels came close on the porch rails. The view was spectacular. I have some awesome photos of the view. It is very convenient to downtown Asheville. Of course I didn't visit downtown Asheville until our departure date. I cannot wait to visit in the spring, summer and of course the fall. The Flying Squirrel was way better than a boring hotel room. JB was not available in person for my visit but she was on spot with her courteous texts to make sure I had everything I needed. We had a simple issue with the satellite, but it was my fault for not knowing how to operate a system like hers. She was only a phone call away and she helped me figure it out. We had football all day long Saturday and Sunday on satellite. This was the best house I have stayed at in a long time. I shall return.
Dawn was a terrific guest. Thank you for sending those amazing photos of the valley and the meteor shower the other night! I posted with our photos so other can see them. Its so nice to have guests enjoy our home and appreciate how we have decorated our cabin. Of course, we think Flying Squirrel is a special place too. SO, thanks again for choosing us and looking forward to meeting you in the spring! You are welcome anytime.. JB
I'm JB the one on the right and DuMont is my partner. We love the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. One of our favorite hobbies is vintage trailers! If you come stay in Flying Squirrel you will see the 1951 Spartan trailer in process of renovation. Its here on the property. I promise not to work on it while you are staying here!
We would be thrilled to have you come for a stay and enjoy the Newfound Mountains and Asheville area. There are so many festivals and activities you may not be able to do everything in one trip. Even though we're from Michigan we still say, "Come on down !"
