Spacious, recently refurbished one-bedroom apartment in converted Edwardian terrace. The apartment consists of a living/dining room with open plan kitchen, one double bedroom, and a bathroom and occupies the ground floor.
Living Space: The highlight of the living space is a front-facing bay window that floods the room with light. The well-proportioned room is comprised of a two-seater leather sofa that opens up into a three-quarter-sized bed, a dining table with four chairs, and a 32” flatscreen TV with DVD player. The kitchen area has everything you would expect, including a built-in fridge-freezer, hob and oven.

Bathroom: Has a fully-tiled shower, washing-basin and a heated towel-rail.
Situated in the popular area of Roath the apartment is only a 20-minute walk from Cardiff city centre and Bute Park (beside Cardiff Castle). And a 5-minute walk from Roath Park, Cardiff’s most popular Victorian park. It is a 2-minute walk from Albany Road, the main shopping street in the area, complete with amenities such as supermarkets (Tescos, Sainsburys), charity shops, boutique gift shops and lots of cosy coffee-shops.
Perfect accommodation for the first weekend of the six nations. Linda was very helpful in showing us around before we had to rush off. Would definitely reccomend. Thanks Lara and Linda!
I know the Roath area as I used to live there and Lara’s apartment was what I was looking for. Lara’s mother picked me up at the station, which was great. The apartment had all the facilities I needed and was warm, quiet and well located. Lots of cafes and takeaways in nearby Albany Rd and a short bus ride into central Cardiff. Communication with Lara was straightforward. Overall, very happy with the stay and the value.
I know Cardiff pretty well as I used to be in University in the area, so I knew that this apartment was located in a convenient (although not the nicest) location.
Lara's Mother met my friend at the apartment and let him in, I gather there were no issues there.
Although the place accommodates four people, it isn't ideal. What isn't mentioned in the listing is that the bathroom is only accessible through the bedroom, so not ideal if you are staying with another couple.
The review mentions that the place has been recently renovated, well yes, perhaps the kitchen, but not the rest of the place. Pretty much every room (all three of them) had some evidence of mould, in particularly in the bedroom around the windows (Very bad mould). Also the bedroom windows are up very high so you can't open them, and as the bathroom is off the bedroom it gets very stuffy in there.
Also the listing mentioned it has 'essentials', to me (and most people) a toaster would be classed as an essential, and there was no toaster. Also, no microwave but that is less essential.
The bed was 100% the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. The mattress was a very cheap sprung mattress and the bed frame was creaky and made noise anytime you moved. Both my wife and I got next to no sleep both nights we were there. I gather from my friends that the sofa bed was more comfortable.
Positives? Bedlinen were provided, as were towels - although the pillows had hairs on them (not ours) so not sure how clean they were. The shower-pressure was pretty low but temperature of the water was good. The heating was very good, didn't take long to warm the place and was easy to operate the boiler.
So I think to sum up this place, you get what you pay for. It is cheap and that is what you get. Would I stay here again? I'm afraid not, even if I was paid to I wouldn't stay here again, mostly because of that terrible bed.
It served a purpose
Lara's place was extremely cosy, it rained a lot when I was in Cardiff and I cycled every day to my office, despite being wet every day I was cosy within minutes of arriving "home". The place is clean and tidy and close to every type of shop you could think of. My fairly late check in time was accommodated without any hassle and I was greeted by Lara's mum Lynda who welcomed me and showed me around with a smile (all I need!) I would certainly use Lara's place again
