Spacious, recently refurbished one-bedroom apartment in converted Edwardian terrace. The apartment consists of a living/dining room with open plan kitchen, one double bedroom, and a bathroom which is accessible only through the bedroom. The apartment occupies the ground floor.
Living Space: The highlight of the living space is a front-facing bay window that floods the room with light. The well-proportioned room is comprised of a two-seater leather sofa that opens up into a three-quarter-sized bed, a dining table with four chairs, and a 32” flatscreen TV with DVD player. The kitchen area has everything you would expect, including a built-in fridge-freezer, hob and oven.
Bedroom: The main feature of the bedroom is a beautiful wooden double-bed with a comfortable mattress. There is also a large storage unit, clothes rail and full-length mirror.
Bathroom: Has a fully-tiled shower, washing-basin and a heated towel-rail.
Situated in the popular area of Roath the apartment is only a 20-minute walk from Cardiff city centre and Bute Park (beside Cardiff Castle). And a 5-minute walk from Roath Park, Cardiff’s most popular Victorian park. It is a 2-minute walk from Albany Road, the main shopping street in the area, complete with amenities such as supermarkets (Tescos, Sainsburys), charity shops, boutique gift shops and lots of cosy coffee-shops.
The flat was very nice not far from the city center and just 5minutes by walk near shops like tesco or sainsbury's which was a good point for us. My friends from France were very Happy to stay in a typical british house. Lara and her mum were very kind as well!
Stayed in the flat with a friend to take part in the recent Velothon Wales. Lara (host) was easy to contact to arrange arrival prior to stay. Warm welcome to the flat by host's mother (Lynda).
Flat is located in Roath area of Cardiff. Roath has a very diverse population including a large number of students. The flat is ideally close to explore the city centre.
The flat is fairly small but has everything you would need for a couple of nights. It's ideal for one to two people with the use of the sofa bed in the lounge for friends. The kitchen is in the lounge but has most mod cons including a dishwasher and washing machine. The bathroom is accessed through the bedroom which might not be ideal for sharing friends.
As the flat is part of a row of terraced houses there is only windows at the front and rear of the property. Unfortunately like many older flats this lack of ventilation seems to contribute to an issue with damp which leaves a musty smell in the flat and visible patches of damp on the walls and particularly the bathroom.
I would recommend the flat to younger couples or friends looking to explore the city for a couple of days.
Advert was quite welcoming, of course, that's what adverts do. Airbnb-feel was far off though, as we were welcomed by the (supposed?) mother of the inhabitant. Quite impossible to ascertain that she was and not some go-between. There's a lot of money to be made in this business, and we're not at all comfortable with the way this is going. Next time, we'll book a hotel. Can't possibly say whether we were part of the community, especially since we were very gently asked to leave the apartment at 10 am because other guests would be arriving.
Looks like airbnb is evolving into a regular hiring-platform for well-to-do citizens who want to earn some money on the side.
A lovely little flat really in a perfect location. When we arrived we were greeted by Lara's Mum who gave a detailed handover. The sofa bed was fine for two adults and the double bed was also fine. Kitchen had everything you need from fridge/freezer, kettle, oven, dishwasher, all cups, glasses, plates, cutlery and even a bottle opener. We had a very comfortable stay with 2 adults and 2 children. The cleanliness of the flat does require some attention especially in the bathroom and with the fresh linen, towels and bedding. I am a bit of a 'Monica' so this would perhaps not be a problem for everyone.
Lara's place made a great base for our weekend in Cardiff. It was lovely and warm and well situated. No problems with anything. Albany Rd, a five min walk away, has numerous restaurants, takeaways and convenience shops plus a Sainsburys mini supermarket and a Caffe Nero. Taxi from Cardiff Central station only took about 10 mins and was £7.
Lara's mom welcomed us into the apartment and she was very friendly and answered our questions.
As for the stay and for the price we paid I felt we were completely ripped off. The apartment was not in good condition and was not clean. The linens for the sofa bed were thrown on top of the bedroom shelves and were not even folded or tucked away. They did not smell like new sheets so I suspect they had not been washed.
The apartment had very little space and was not a decent size for 4 people. My family and I struggled throughout the stay as there was not enough luggage space for 4 people and no space to sit around. The toilets were in even worse condition. Very old and the shower was not clean at all. My mother didn't take a shower for the 2 days we were there. We are frequent travelers and we have not experienced anywhere like this.
Overall it was below standard. We almost booked ourselves at a hotel for the second night but because it was 2 nights we just managed to get through the night. We also had our friends from Cardiff with us when we checked in and they agreed it was not clean and below standard. We have paid the same amount for other apartments in London over Easter break and we have received a 5 star accommodation and service so I really was disappointed with my choice.
Sheida, I am sorry to hear that this was not the right apartment for you and your family. In our communication prior to your booking of the place I did express my concerns that the apartment would be too small for your family with the words, " I have to say that floor-space is minimal so it would be very tight!", and so I was very surprised when you sent a booking request. Fortunately, many others have had an entirely different experience of the apartment. The latest review from Emily who stayed just two weeks after you states, "Nice, well equipped apartment near to town centre. Lara was a great host and looked after our needs well." I do hope you book a more suitably-sized place in the future.
