This is a farm hut with great views. Easy to locate the place too. The amenities were good although the hut is quite old. We had a nice stay for a night. However we thought the place was slightly overpriced given it was half hour away from wanaka.

This is an attractively furnished old shepherd's cottage, with a modern toilet, washroom and shower. For cyclists, the kilometer long dirt access road to the farm might be off-putting, but if you are wanting a break between Omarama and Cromwell, this is a great option. No TV or internet, but fine home cooked meals and wine with friendly hosts just next door are available.

What a great spot to visit. I loved the rustic yet comfortable hut. We enjoyed walking around the extensive property and met a few four legged friends along the way. The night sky was the most incredible I have ever seen. I also enjoyed the tour Christine "Christy" gave us. She was very informative about what it's like to be a wool farmer. I only wish I could have seen a sheep being shorn.

Although my partner and I did not meet Christine in person, she was easy to communicate with through Airbnb. We were given helpful directions to the hut as it is definitely off the beaten path! The hut was just as described, rustic and charming, and pretty well-kept. The bed was comfortable and the shower worked fine. The bedroom was quite warm with no openable windows so we had to leave the door to the outside open to let in the cool. Safety was not a concern, but unfortunately the bitey bugs are a problem for me so that was the only negative of our stay.

Malvern Downs was fantastic! It was a good base for some activities around Wanaka. Our hosts were great and the "historic hut " was quite comfortable.

Christine was a nice host and very welcoming. Unfortunately they were not there when we arrived but sent us messages with directions to the place. Later on Christine came by to introduce herself and answer any questions we had, and show us the necessities. The hut itself is quite simple with 3 separate rooms accessible from outside doors - a bedroom, a shower/dining room, and toilet. There is both an outdoor freezer and cooler for storing anything that needs to be kept cold. We did hear something (birds, i think) scratching around in the 'attic', but nothing too bothersome or scary. Although we did not end up spending much time on the farm, this fit our needs, and from here we had a perfect view of the New Zealand night sky, and seeing all the animals around the farm day and night is always a treat.

Christine made us feel very welcome and it was a great experience staying on their farm - the night sky in the NZ South Island High Country has to be the MOST FABULOUS perspective anywhere in the world - the Milky Way is amazing. We enjoyed meeting the livestock - the horses, the deer and just missed meeting the stud merino rams (we woke up too late) before Chrissie and Robbie took the rams for the Agricultural & Produce show the next morning. We signed up for the dinner option and had the most delicious lamb dinner followed by tipsy trifle. It was a great delight to meet Fiona and Matthew and their daughter, also the new puppy! Hearing about the stock show, horse judging, dairy support and just a few of the snippets of life on a New Zealand farm - was a terrific experience.
