Chalet Tarine is situated in a south facing Tarentaise village overlooking the ski resort 'LES ARCS'. The bottom of the 'LES ARCS' funicular is in Bourg Saint Maurice, a 10-15 minute drive from the Chalet (6km). This is where you park and buy your ski pass and begin and end your days skiing.
The funicular takes 7 minutes and at its summit is 'Arc 1600' , from where you can ski the huge Les Arcs ski area, this includes the villages of Villaroger, Peisney Vallendry, plus Arc 1800, Arc 1950, and Arc 2000.
Les Arcs is easily big enough to keep you busy all week, but the extraordinary double decker Vanoise Express cable car connects Les Arcs directly to the 10 resorts and villages that form the vast
'LA PLAGNE' ski area.
Together 'Les Arcs' and 'La Plagne' form a 400KM ski area known as 'PARADISKI,' one of the largest ski areas in the world.
In late Spring the villages of the Tarentaise region come alive. Their breathtaking views change as the snow melts and the abundant wild flowers cover the mountain sides. As Spring rolls into Summer the long warm days and cool nights make it a perfect place to visit in even the hottest months. With mountain biking, golf, hiking, White Water Rafting, Climbing, Parapenting and even Summer Skiing, the Tarentaise should appeal to the most active person.
But the unique charm and character of the mountain villages makes them a truly magical place to simply relax and soak up the atmosphere. They're not purpose built holiday resorts; they are living, breathing villages where traditional alpine lifestyle's survive.
The small farms raise the ‘Tarine’ cows, a hardy fawn coloured beauty specially adapted to a high altitude life. The exceptional and unspoilt diet of the Tarine cows can be tasted in the cheese made from their milk. It’s collected daily from the village to make creamy Beaufort, often called the king of Gruyere. Many local farms still keep a variety of animals and on up from Les Échines-Dessous at 2000m there's a small goat farm at the 'Forte De la Platte', still producing unique hand made cheese using age old traditions. The breath taking '5 Lakes' walk starts from the fort and takes around 2 hours.
The Cormet de Roseland, which passes below the village, provides the spectacular setting for a famous stage of 'The Tour De France'. Along this route towards Beaufort lies the extaordinary L'aiguille des glaciers, part of the Tour du Mont-Blanc, a protected vallee only accessible in Summer that retains it's glacier snow thoughout the year. A hearty alpine meal can be enjoyed at Auberge de La Nova , a beautiful twenty minute drive from Les Échines-Dessous

Safety & Security
Your safety is our prime concern. Whilst the house and local environment is relatively safe there are a number of points to take care of. On arrival take a note of all the stairways and entrances/exits. Note where the fire extinguishers are located on each floor. In the event of fire close all doors and windows and call the Fire Brigade/Pompiers on 112.
Take care near slopes, steps, stairs and windows as accidental falls are always possible, especially when there is snow, ice or wet surfaces.
Do not allow young children unsupervised on balconies or near upper floor windows. Whilst we are insured, guests should take out their own insurance to cover any accidents or injury and guests must take responsibility for their own safety. We cannot accept liability for any, loss, theft, accidental damage or injury incurred whilst on our premises.
We had an incredible stay, couldn't recommend Tom's chalet more. We visited at the last weekend of the ski season, so were blessed with hot sun and heavy snow during our one week stay! The chalet is located up on the hill, in a group of other farm houses, a ten minute windy road from the town - stock up on food supplies before you get there (we didn't, and after a long drive were too tired to head out. oops!) Tom was a fantastic host, despite us not actually meeting him, and got back to us quickly when we arrived and had a question. The chalet itself is INCREDIBLE. Very spacious, finished to a high standard, warm, plenty of things to keep children occupied (also with a cot and high chair). Really can not say enough positive things here. Can't wait to return :)
This is the best renovated and furnished chalet I have been to. Very charming, comfortable and allowing privacy to a large group. Tom was extremely responsive and helpful with all our questions. The location is great, and we hope to be back end of the summer for hiking.
Like to travel, particularly if there's snow. I have a lovely character chalet sleeping 10-12 people in the Tarentaise with some of the best skiing and most thrilling paragliding space in the French Alps. Very affordable, starting at under £100 per person per week. Luxury en suite bathrooms, fabulous views, short drive to ski lifts and take off points. Fantastic private hub for mountain enthusiasts.
Chalet Tarine is available Saturday to Saturday . It is self-catered, large, characterful, well equiped and has five bedrooms, one with 4 single beds in (so you can sleep up to 12)
We also have a lovely ground floor one bedroom apartment in the same chalet. Totally self contained with its own front door, we generally offer longer season rentals for this apartment, but shorter holidays can be arranged.
