About this listing
Our beautiful detached Lake District home is within walking distance of Bowness, Windermere, the lake and mountains. Guest lounge, bathroom, wifi, ample free parking and two Yorkshire terriers (if you want to meet them) to make you feel welcome.
A large detached house with ample space for parking.
We are close enough to the town and lake to be able to walk, but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful.
A beautiful lounge with a piano(if they fancy a tinkle), shared bathroom (only if there are other Airbn guests staying with us, and only ever a maximum of 4 persons) and a separate loo.
We provide fresh towels, shower/bath products and shampoo.
Interaction with Guests
As much as they want. If they want to ask us anything they can but if they want complete privacy the house is large enough to allow that. It is their break and we respect that.
Bowness is a bustling little town with great restaurants, bars, old pubs, fab shops and of course the lake. And all within walking distance of the house!
The lake ferries and tour buses all leave from the lake pier.
Bowness is the perfect base from which to explore the Lake District. The lake ferries sail to different destinations around the lake. Mountain Goat tour buses are the best.
Other Things to Note
Birch Howe is a typical Lakeland home so we live upstairs and sleep downstairs. This means our guest lounge is always light and airy, and the bedrooms are very quiet.
Please don't bring take aways into the bedroom but you can eat them in the lounge. If you want to smoke, no problem, but only outside. Our gardens are big enough to accommodate this.
Lake Windermere Ian five minute walk from the house for cruises, rowing boats and amazing choc dip ice creams.
Steve and Jane gave me a very happy memories, he got to the station to pick me up when I go to Windermere, I was very moved because of this, the lake is very beautiful, and their houses, it was a two-story house and a yard, my room is very quiet and warm, the sitting room with pictures of their family, and a triangle piano, let me feel warm and comfortable, from their home to the dock just five to eight minutes walking distance. I'm sorry I left that morning disturb their sleep, but Jane has to call a taxi for me to send me to the station, they are very friendly! I will also come here to live if I come back to windermere again!
Jane & Steve were fabulous hosts. They make us feel welcomed and at home at the first instance. Steve was very kind to pick us up at the train station and also send us to the station on the last day of stay.
The description of the room was as described in the listing. The room was comfortable and clean. Jane also prepared a nice breakfast for the guests.
I would highly recommend anyone to stay at Jane's place should they visit the Lake District.
Jane and her husband Steve were great hosts very friendly and chatty. The house is situated a short walk away from the centre of Bowness. The bed was very comfy and the room very quite, I would suggest you take a pair of slippers though as the laminate floor was quite cold, but that's because we are used to underfloor heating and an Aga!!
Fantastic place to stay! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. It is an excellent room and a very comfortable bed. The location is perfect and only a short walk to the lake, shops and restaurants. Thank you Jane for making our stay truly memorable.
Jane is very nice and waited for us at the station to collect our luggage. The house was quite and fabulous. We took a long walk, got lost, and finally with a couple's help got to the right place before dark. We found we go away from the ferry green. The breakfast was delicious and it's a pity we don't know how to play piano. The next day Steve took us the station, and help find the bus stop to Keswick. The facilities in the house are good, if the address was more detail, it will be perfect. We are happy to recommend this house near lake.
Stunning house in the perfect location. The room is beautiful and much bigger than the pictures suggest. Not a far walk, maybe ten minutes to the pier, and situated in a quite neighbourhood in Bowness on Windermere. When we arrived Jane was out, but her daughter let us in and showed us around. There was a TV in the room with countless of DVDs to choose from. There were also homemade flapjacks and a kettle in the room for coffee or tea. Breakfast was served at 8 am and consisted of various cereals and pastries, as well as fruit. When we met Jane later in the day, she was extremely helpful and nice and suggested a great Fish and Chip shop in town. It was a wonderful place to stay and much nicer than most hotels I've stayed at. I would whole heartedly recommend this place, and would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Jane was very helpful supplying directions to find their home over the phone. We were made feel very welcome on arrival. The room was as described and very comfortable, although we did have a little trouble connecting to wifi in the room. Reception was much better in the lounge room upstairs. The location was great as we walked to the street for dinner and felt very safe in the area. Overall it was a very nice place and I would highly recommend it to others.

About the Host, Jane
Steve and I live in the fabulous Lake District with our two rabbits (left by the daughter that went to Uni) and two Yorkshire terriers. I work as the Head of Admissions for a private school, and although we both spend an amount of time travelling overseas we both love what we do, but it can be a little hectic. When we have time we like walking, eating out, cooking and time out, which isn't often.
Our children are all grown and have flown the nest but we love having people to stay, so we decided that with a beautiful big empty house in the middle of Bowness we should give this a try. We do have friends who are already experienced airbnb hosts and they recommended that we give this a go. It is a 7 minute walk to the lake, brilliant restaurants, bars and shops. Unbelievable scenery is on our doorstep. The locals are friendly and will offer advice on the best walks and things to see and do. The home of Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth are within a bus ride and we can collect you from the station depending on your arrival time. Excellent off road parking is also available at our home.
We love where we are and what we have and we want you to share it with us. Please read our reviews, we have had some great people to stay and we would love you to be one of them.
