We just spent 3 on Draco, in Baltimore. It was a very nice experience. Living in this boat was very romantic and very funny for our two kids. The location is perfect, safe and quiet. The neighbors are very nice on the dock. We had to phone the maintenance line and the person in charge was very reactive and extremely nice to us when he came on the boat. The sleepafloat team has been extremely easy to work with they even let us check out a bit later because of the heat for our children. I' d like to thank the team and to recommend this very nice experience on a sleepafloat boat.
I stayed on the Draco for three nights in May while attending a conference being held at the convention center in Baltimore’s inner harbor area. The Draco was the perfect place to stay and a highly recommended alternative to staying at a hotel in the area.
SleepAfloat provided pre-stay information which made it easy to find the marina and the boat. There’s ample free parking. While there is a water taxi stop at the marina it takes you to Fell’s Point where you need to transfer to another water taxi in order to get to the inner harbor area. I found it more convenient to walk the five short blocks to the Fell’s Point water taxi stop. $12 for all day access to the water taxi’s made it convenient to come and go between the Draco and the convention center. Late at night it was about a $15 taxi from the convention center/Camden Yards area to the marina. There are tons of restaurants, bars, etc within walking distance from the boat, including a crab shack and a 24 hour take-out place both steps from the boat. And yet, being on the boat itself was so peaceful and quiet at any time of the day. A really great balance of convenience without the crowds. Really, I don’t think you could pick a better location for activities in downtown Baltimore.
The Draco is as pictured and had all the conveniences of a stocked apartment rental. I thought the boat felt spacious, comfortable and clean. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the bed was to sleep in. A couple of times I had questions about something and SleepAfloat always responded promptly to my emails. I also left an item on the boat and SleepAfloat has been most helpful in getting this returned to me.
The coffee maker on the boat is one of those specialized capsule types and I didn’t see any of the capsules in the cabinets. I didn’t look very hard and instead took the nice ten minute stroll along the harbor to the nearby Starbucks. However, if you want coffee on board you might double check on this with SleepAfloat in advance.
I enjoyed my stay on the Draco so much that I told my wife that we’ll have to plan a weekend trip to stay on the boat later this year. Really great place for a weekend getaway.
Great Experience and great value. This is a nice houseboat and the fun of having your own boat in Baltimore's harbor is great. The location in Fells Point can'tbe beat. Lots of amenities within walking distace: grocery, coffehouses, restaurants and bars. This was my first time staying on a houseboat so just some things to note for other first-timers. This is not the four seasons, but it is quaint and cute with adequate HVAC, heat and amenities The toilet leaves something to be desired from a "flush power" perspective, but my understanding is that this is not unusual. The coffee maker is a Keurig, so bring some pods. Plan a trip the the Safeway for supplies after you arrive. The boat is stocked with basic kitchen utinsils etc, but you may want to pick up some extra ice, and supplies. Its's fun to sit on the top deck and have a cocktail, watch the sunset and all the activity in and around the harbor. Take in the experience for what it is which is kind of like staying in someone's cabin. The neighbors are friendly. Lots of dogs on houseboats, I noticed. this one allows them and there is a green area in which to walk them that is right outside the gate to the dock. All my Baltimore friends thought this swas such a fun idea and wanted to hang out on the boat. I'll be back.
We absolutely loved our stay on this little houseboat! I booked Draco, which was docked in Fells Point, in early May. It was a great surprise for my husband because he's always wanted to sleep on a boat. The boat was docked in a nice area with beautiful views of the water.
We stocked up on food & spirits and settled in for the weekend. We cooked out on the grill on the upper deck, and caught some sun on the deck above that. The boat’s gentle rocking was very comfortable and we slept well. The only noise to wake us was the call of sea gulls and ducks.
This houseboat was equipped with everything we could have wanted or needed, including linen, towels, shampoo & conditioner and even candles. The kitchen has everything you'll need -except for food & drinks of course. There's a Keurig coffee maker and a full size fridge. There's a TV and internet also. I had a problem getting Wi-Fi- I could have called the number provided for maintenance, but chose not to. It's nice to be disconnected sometimes. The nights were cool, but there are a couple of heaters just in case. We came very early in the season, so we only saw a few people around working on their boats. You’ll need a key code to get in to the marina. We felt secure there. Just outside the gated entry is a large free parking area, so you’ll have quick access to stuff stowed in the car.
If you're not into cooking, there are a ton of great restaurants and shops in Fells Point, some even within walking distance of the marina. You’ll want to go to the heart of Fells Point, walk the cobblestone streets and enjoy the atmosphere there! After checkout, we walked to a little hometown diner just east of the marina and had a nice breakfast. Staying on this houseboat was great fun and we hope to do it again sometime!
