A modest suite with great amenities of a newly refurbished Historic Art Center home. Enter the home's most private room through the 'closet' of the attached lounge. A full sized bed centers the room which overlooks a tree covered backyard. The shared bathroom has a sunflower shower poking out of the ceiling with a refurbished tub and room for two.
Nestled in a quiet safe neighborhood to the east of the College of Creative Studies (CCS) and Wayne State University (WSU). This address is walking distance to all museums, Detroit's best Sushi, (Wasabi Sushi) A Crepery (Good Girls Go To Paris), French Bistro (Rodin), Bar/Grill (Macabes) and Local Cafe (14 East - free WiFi). Zip Car station a block away in CCS parking garage!
Please compare (favorably we hope) with The Inns on Ferry Street only 3 blocks away. Just a quick jaunt to the nite-life of Downtown. 'Chefs kitchen' with full fenced in backyard and deck. Free Wi-Fi.
Location cubed? Yes. But really the neighborhood is the reason I live in Detroit. (choosing from cities: San Francisco, Oakland, Chicago, Ann Arbor)
Why? The people. They are all Detroiters. Most of them have lived there longer than I (I've been there 12 years) They all have fixed up their homes and resurrected the area with perseverance, hard work and kindness. A wonderful cross section of cultures, professions and personalities. During summers kids freely play. The reason I started showing movies in Peck Park (which in part was revamped due to? ... one of the neighbors) was to add to the neighborhood collective.
Please know that our home is inhabited by two very chill older
dog / companions. They are loveable and no-to-low maintenance -- and if need be -- easily tucked away to other parts of the house for your convenience.

I stayed at Scott's house for about 3.5 weeks and I have to say I truly felt like I had a home to stay in.
The Characters: Scott, Sylvia and Chip are respectful, considerate, kind as they are easy-going and generous. I always felt like I had my privacy to study, get work done or even just *be* when I needed it. They are all passionate about the city but allowed me to wander it myself, always happy to share in my experiences when I returned. Finally, the two beautiful dogs (Blue and Bear!) that roam the halls are equally kind and respectful - having dogs myself waiting for me back at home they were always friendly greeters when I walked through the door.
The Location: the house is located in a very safe neighbourhood. I never felt like my safety was compromised in any way and I often came back at night after studying at local coffee shops/museums/galleries. There always seemed to be activities nearby (for example, I attended several Oscar 2014 nominations screenings for the "shorts" categories at the Detroit Film Theatre in the DIA, a couple blocks away). Also, I got the sense that the neighbourhood really looked out for each other. The whole foods store is a bit of a walk but there is a nearby food mart (t feel like going to a nearby coffee shop to study I was happy to stay in as there was tons of space. There is only one bathroom shared by all but with our schedules it was pretty easy to get in and out whenever with little to no waiting (on my end at least!). Finally, the kitchen is super spacious. The gas range stove makes cooking a breeze and everyone is so great about cleaning up after themselves.
The Bottom-line: this really is a cool spot to be in for any amount of time. I had a truly memorable stay and I will be back to visit in the near future.
Scott and Sylvia were amazing hosts. The place was really nice and really clean. I was there for an audition and they were very accommodating and let me practice at their house. Everyone was really nice and made me feel very welcome. They were very respectful when I needed private time to prepare for my audition and also were fun to hang out and chat with. They know a lot about Detroit and made me realize that it is an awesome place! Check-in and check-out times were very easy and I didn't have any issues at all when I stayed here. I would definitely recommend this place!
Staying at Scott´s was just perfect!
The location is super convenient, the room is very comfortable, and the household pleasant.
Above all Scott is a wonderfull host who makes you feel at home immediately .
Thank you !
Scott was so friendly and personable - and knew all about the Detroit scene, from local events to cool little hangout spots - and he was glad to share! His place was lovely! Comfortably and homey, and very spacious. He also has a lovely dog who will immediately be your best friend :) highly recommended!
Great place. Very warm and cozy and an excellent location. Scott and Sylvia are great hosts. I highly recommend.
Scott was a great host. He was available for us when we needed him, in spite of the busy holiday season. In turn, the two room suite was very comfortable and relaxing. We enjoyed our stay and will be sure to return. Thanks, for the hospitality and great coffee.
I had a wonderful time staying at Scott's! The neighbourhood is fantastic - I loved seeing all the beautiful brick homes on my runs in the mornings. Scott's place has so much character and felt so homey from the moment I walked in. The suite is comfortable, private and spacious.
Scott (and Sylvia) were full of great suggestions for things to do and see. We had great conversations about urban issues, in general, and Detroit, in particular. Their knowledge of and passion for the city provided a great lens through which to view my time there. I feel I have gained two wonderful friends and a new favourite city!
Scott, his girlfriend, and his roommate all were very great people to stay with. OOOHH can't forget his dog Bear! He is so sweet and kind. My boyfriend and I would defiantly stay here again. So worth the price. Thanks Scott!
Scott is an excellent host. The location was amazing in terms of the it Institute of Art, Wayne State University, Center for Creative Studies, architecture, among others, and a safe environment. I thouroghly enjoyed my visit. Terry
Scott was a wonderful host. He shared a lot of his experience in Detroit which is a really interesting place to visit now.
The accommodations were very nice, the room has a little attached studio where I could sit and do some work on my laptop while my girlfriend read in the couch. The location of the house is very central, we did rent a car for our stay, but there was plenty to do within walking range. Once we were driving... it's the automobile city.
I totally recommend Scott's place to anyone wishing to explore this famous historic American city.
