  • I have stayed with Sharon a couple of times now, but have never written a review - the truth is, I really didn't want such a fantastic secret to get out. Never have I stayed anywhere in Los Angeles more relaxing, tranquil and in such a beautiful setting. This is the true lovely heart of LA - Wonderland Avenue up in the Canyon and Sharon's place is a refuge away from all the bustle of the city, though amazingly only 10 minutes away from Sunset Boulevard.

It is sweet, clean, quiet and with such an amazing host - Sharon - that we have become firm friends. I have lived on and off in LA for years, but I feel like this place was the one I was always searching for. Nowhere in LA quite has the magic of the Hollywood Hills, and Sharon's place is right in the centre of it, with a door leading out onto a beautiful garden, a quiet patio and a lovely pool.

I have been very happy here.

This is the perfect place for a couple to come or a lone traveller looking for magic and tranquility in LA. Or a writer… Or a first timer to LA. This is the place that you have in your mind when you think of LA, though are usually disappointed by a characterless hotel or apartment in the city. This is the opposite. By the third stay last week, I admit I felt more excited to see the apartment, than anything else in LA.

And Sharon is the perfect host - completely on hand if you need anything, but at the same time, absolutely un-interfering.

I regret deeply if this review causes this place to get so popular that I won't be able to stay there, but it feels like a disservice to Sharon to not say what a lovely apartment it is, and what a truly kind host she is.

  • We arrived late on the 24th of December only to find out that we had to adjust the toilet.
Apparently the plumber had put a new liner in and the toilet flusher had not been adjusted properly. Fortunately my husband worked on the system and while it didn't work for a couple of days he was eventually able to get it working properly.
There wasn't any water pressure in the bathroom sink so washing up, brushing teeth and shaving all had to take place in the kitchen.
We went to make a coffee and there were coffee grounds with a lot of mould. We guessed that it had been sitting there for several weeks. Sharon did come down and remove the mouldy coffee but did not wash out the pot!
We left a day early and Sharon, while friendly, tried to reassure us that her cleaning lady washed all the glasses and silverware but the bathroom issues left us disappointed in this Laurel Canyon ''Retreat''.

    Response from Sharon:

Fran and her husband arrived Christmas Eve for what I hoped would be the ideal holiday for them. Their son and family live up the street. During the booking conversation I offered to show the apartment to her son for his approval. This never happened. Unfortunately, Fran made no mention of any difficulties until day 3 of her 5 night reservation. I received lengthy texts filled with false accusations and disgust. Later that same day, Fran texted that she and her husband would be leaving a day early and requested a refund. I, in turn, asked that all further conversation be conducted through Airbnb Help Center. I removed the coffee filter immediately which was an unintentional oversight by both my professional cleaning person and myself. A French Press coffee maker seated next to the offensive electric coffee maker was ignored. I alerted my handyman immediately who assured me that all was functioning in the apartment before they arrived and when he
checked after their departure. He did, however, raise the water pressure in the bathroom sink. My previous tenant vacated December 7 and made no mention of any difficulties with either the toilet or sink.
The morning of their departure I received a text asking if I would like to speak to them before they leave. I responded with all conversation should be through Airbnb. Fran took the liberty of coming up my backstairs demanding that I walk through the apartment and assure her that she would receive her deposit. I told her if she left the apartment as she found it there would be no problem and I have never withheld the cleaning deposit. She continued to threaten and bully until I closed my backdoor and walked away. She insisted that as a Canadian her standards were higher than mine.
This is my first negative experience after 2 years of hosting some of the loveliest people on the planet.

  • My stay at Sharon's home was overall a good experience. It is clean, comfortable and quiet. I didn't actually get to use the pool due to my fall visit, but it is lovely nonetheless. The home is located very near an elementary school, therefore parking & traffic can be tricky during peak school hours. This is easily circumvented by adjusting the timing of your comings & goings (like everywhere in the area). I was drawn to this property by the mostly positive reviews and I was not disappointed.
It is a great value and I look forward to returning.

  • Accomodations were lovely and thoughtfully appointed, beautiful peaceful pool, and charming and gracious hostess! Will be returning for sure! Also: perfect location--15 minutes from my work in the Valley and 10 minutes from fun in West Hollywood! Great experience!

  • We stayed 4 days/nights in Sharon's Laurel Canyon retreat and could not be happier. The location is unbeatable (and tranquil as advertised) - nestled in the Hollywood Hills, yet minutes from Ventura Blvd, the Farmer's Market, Thai Town, Sunset Blvd, and the rest of Hollywood. Despite the central location, we slept to the sound of crickets chirping every night and Sharon's place is perfect for a couple, with its gorgeous pool and secluded atmosphere.
Sharon is also an incredibly gracious host, allowing our elderly dog to freely roam her beautiful property during the day while we were hanging out at the beach.
We look forward to returning and cannot recommend Sharon's place enough!

  • I highly recommend Sharon’s apartment for anybody who is looking for a creative experience. It is such a peaceful environment to write, think, or relax. Every afternoon, I sat outside and listened to the water filter through the swimming pool below. Sharon was a wonderful host. The refrigerator was full of breakfast food and fresh fruit. But for me the best was the 4 cold beers waiting after 6 hours on a plane! It was a 10 minute ride to anywhere I had to go. Although my ATT cell service had no reception, it never was a problem. Sharon has a landline that is free anyplace in the USA. And finally, the Pace restaurant, 3 minutes down the canyon… is an amazing experience!

  • It's a wonderful place to stay between Studio City and Hollywood. Sharon has been a great host, you don't need to rush to get groceries, there is generous welcome pack waiting in the kitchen. You have everything you need, it,s clean, comfortable and above all quiet. The garden is just beautiful!

  • Sharon is a delightful host -- friendly and accommodating, yet very respectful of her guests' space. The lush yard and sunny patio make for great lounging. If you're looking for a quintessential Laurel Canyon experience, Sharon's place is tough to top!
