Here's a nice blog post about us:
"...Then when you are back in Bali and hit Ubud, you should stay with Jawi House and Painter. You get a degree of loveliness which is hilariously superior to the other places along Monkey Forest Road, a few of whom were offering me discount rates of $110 US for tattered old rooms in their oversized resorts. I know you can get accommodation much cheaper than this (we stayed in another place for $12/night on our last trip) but for what you get, this place was lovely– air con and fan, bath, a sitting area, a welcome drink (I love Indonesian welcome drinks, yummy), free wireless, and brekky. And down a quiet laneway off the main drag. We were sorry to stay only one night, because they were so awesome, and we had that experience that you have pretty regularly in Indonesia, when someone is so delightful and wonderful to you and you wish you could just apologise directly for not being able to personally sustain their excellent business model, which probably goes largely unappreciated because they don’t have a very big sign, nor an advertising budget. And please (I say in imaginary monologue) don’t stop asking people if they were just ‘walking walking’ a la the way one would say ‘jalan jalan’ in Bahasa, because that is really quite adorable and somehow more accurate in tone to describe the kind of meandering one does in Ubud, than the singular version. So keep it up Jawi House and Painter." From "girlmeetsmelbourne" blog.
Our home is located in the heart of Ubud on Monkey Forest Road (Jl. Wenara Wana). It’s tucked away down a laneway behind the street front. Access is via our courtyard with a staircase up to level one or two. Your room has it’s own private, lockable door and you can come go as you please.
Interaction with Guests
We can have as little or as much interaction as you like. You can call or sms me anytime you need something. I am usually at home or in the area so I’m close by to give you advice or help with anything you need. I also enjoy sharing our local culture and customs if you’re interested in learning more about the Balinese life.
We’re conveniently situated right near restaurants, bars, cafes, spas, and shops but positioned back from the street amongst Balinese homes. There’s a laundry a few minutes away, convenience stores, ATMs and a couple of resorts on the street that allow you to access their pools for a small fee. The Royal Palace and Ubud Market is a short walk up the street, and The Monkey Forest and Hubud Co-working space is a few minutes down the street. We are also walking distance to Yoga Barn and other yoga studios.
Ubud is an excellent central base from which to explore Bali. It is about a one hour drive from Kuta, depending on the traffic and the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar is a one and a half hour drive away. We can organise airport transfers for you.
Most of central Ubud is within walking distance but hiring scooter is a cheap and easy way to get around.
There are also plenty of taxis you can pick up on the street to get you around town for about IDR(phone number hidden) longer distances or day tours, my nephew (also called Putu) is an excellent driver and tour guide. You can see his reviews on TripAdvisor.
Other Things to Note
We can arrange the following for you:
- Airport transfer IDR300.000
- Motorcycle / scooter hire
- Private tours of Bali
- Telkomsel SimCard - local card for cheap call/text and you can also access 3G internet at good prices
- Check in time: 2.00pm
- Check out time: 12.00pm
- Smoking not allowed
This is the second time I have stayed with Putu in her lovely guesthouse. The room and food again were perfect, so well located, friendly and clean, luxurious even, for the price. Putu again made me some home made food, and made sure it was different to my last experience, bless her. She also organised a motorbike to hire and a driver to take me to the airport for a good rate. Thanks Putu!
We spent four nights here and really enjoyed our stay. The room is simple but tastefully decorated, just like in the photos. There’s a bench big enough to put your luggage on, the bed is very comfy, and there’s a water dispenser and a safe in the room. The ensuite is lovely and has hot water and a bath tub. The best feature though was the balcony where we had breakfast every morning looking out on the vibrant greenery beyond.
The room was well ventilated and had an airconditioner and a fan. It was meticulously cleaned every day and we got clean sheets and towels on the second day.
This guest house is well located down an alley way off Monkey Forest Road, behind the Laughing Buddha bar. So it is close to everything but not noisy. In fact, we felt as if we were in the middle of nowhere. Putu is very kind and nothing was too much trouble for her. On our last night she insisted on making us dinner - a delicious vegetarian fried rice dish - which we ate on the balcony.
Jawi house is exactly how everyone describes, amazing. We had such a warm welcome with Putu, she is a truly amazing host. The room itself, clean and beautiful with absolutely everything we needed. We walked away from Jawi house knowing we will come back the next time we are in BALI and thanks to Putu a smile on our face, she's a great cook, amazing breakfast. Thank you Putu!
I was only there for a very short time, but the hostess Putu was very lovely and accommodating the room was clean very comfortable with a pleasant balcony in the heart of Ubud but also very quiet at the same time. Would stay there again next time.
It was great place to stay. During this trip to Bali, we stayed 5 different places. Without no doubt, it was the best place ever! The location was in the middle of Ubud center and the room was SUPER CLEAN. The host was kind and the breakfast was soooooooo nice! After we left the Jawi house, we were in Jimbaran area. But we kept talking about Jawi House and we missed the Jawi house a lot. Next time we will definitely come back to this place and stay for whole holiday!
Putu really made me feel very comfortable. She was a very warm host. She was so kind that even only me was staying in her place she made teas and everything for my friend too. The room was really nice, very cute and clean.i highly recommend that you stay with her.she will do everything to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay
