My beautiful award winning village is somewhat sleepy, traditional, and quiet, yet only 10 minutes from a busy town, and not so far from the big cities, giving the best of both worlds.
The people are very friendly and helpful ,there is plenty of beautiful flora, wildlife and birds, even wild horses and goats up in the hills. They say the Silvermines gets under your skin and you will always return.
For local travelling a car would be preferable. Taxis and mini buses are available from the village. Bicycles can be hired in Nenagh town. There is a train station to major cities and also a coach station in Nenagh that also goes to all the major cities. Regular coaches to the airports Shannon ( 1 hr) and Dublin (2.30Hrs) airports making this a very central location for all parts of Ireland. Guests will be picked up from Nenagh and taken to the Silvermines.

We had a very nice time at the cottage and it was very clean and new and beautiful. We have two little kids and Paul and Karin made sure we had a cot and a high chair, and we're very helpful with anything that came up. Would definitely recommend it to anyone!
Absolutely spectacular house !having grown up in nearby Nenagh , it was superb to relive my childhood memories of The Silvermines in this divine home . Paul has created a charming and wonderfully relaxing atmosphere, so much so that we delayed our departure twice !! Big thank you to Karin for everything .Looking forward to many more memories here on our next trip back to Ireland . Cheers Ciara
Paul was a fantastic host. Our party arrived in a staggered fashion over a period of a few days and Paul met all of us, made sure we got there and settled, even picked up my son and his girl friend from the bus stop in Nenagh. The accommodations are roomy and comfortable and are perfect for a large group.
The accommodations are first rate. Paul has lovingly and skilfully restored the place, with beautiful touches and bathroom facilities I wish we had at home. The beds were comfortable, as was the furnishings and the fireplace added to the warm atmosphere when we got home from our side trips. The garden and lawn are beautiful, providing a lovely oasis that is appealing all on its own. During our stay we took advantage of Paul's offer to dig potatoes from the garden and had fresh spuds with our breakfast.
The location is off the beaten path and the locals are friendly. They have not been jaded by constant tourist so they are happy to interact. There is a small pub and market within a short walking distance and the owners were both friendly and welcoming. We used this location as our base for trips to Dingle and other points of interest. It was a great spot to come home.
Our party of six all agreed that it was a lovely place, the best of four in which we stayed on our trip and that we would definitely stay again and recommend the Forge to family and friends.
We felt very welcome even before we decided to book our stay. Paul was very helpful and communicative. We were really looking forward to spending our holidays in Silvermines, but when we arrived, we could not belive our eyes. Everything about the place exceeded our expectaions. Spacious, clean, tastefully furnished, beautiful and smelling of lavender!
Our weekend in Silvermines could not have been better. The standard of the accommodation was outstanding, beautifully restored cottage in the village. Paul greeted us on arrival, showed us around and even left two loaves of still warm Irish soda bread to get us through til dinner. He even brought us a high chair for our little boy making our weekend so much more manageable. We and our friends really loved our few days away, breakfasting on the deck, playing in the garden, digging potatoes for dinner, and relaxing by the fire.
A group of us had a really happy 4 days staying in the Old Forge 1 and 2. Both houses are absolutely beautiful, great care has obviously been taken to ensure that every little detail is perfect. The two houses are full of character, whilst also offering the kind of comforts you would expect in an expensive hotel - spotless cleanliness, really comfy beds and fantastic bathrooms. The garden is beautiful and completely enclosed, which makes it great for kids who want to run free!
The houses are in a great location, there is lots of beautiful countryside and good walks in the immediate vicinity and you are in easy reach of many other areas of interest.
We didn't meet Paul as he was away whilst we were there, but he was really friendly and helpful in the run-up to our stay. Whilst we were there, we were looked after by his mum and dad and his sister Veronica, all of whom were lovely and could not have done more to make us feel welcome.
Pretty much as soon as we arrived we were talking about when we could come back again, we really loved staying in Silvermines. I would recommend it unreservedly to anyone - it is wonderful. Thank you Paul for letting us borrow your beautiful houses!
We had such a great time at the Silvermines Cottage. We had very good communication with our host Paul who was waiting to show us around once we arrived. There was also a detailed book listing all we needed to know about the cottage which did not disappoint in any way. It is very well appointed with every attention to the details that made our stay extremely comfortable from the large bedrooms with luxurious ensuite bathrooms to the modern kitchen, large dining area and the very comfy livingroom furniture. The gardens and private patio were especially relaxing after a long day of exploring the area. We enjoyed a few pints at the friendly pub across the street and there was also a small grocery store. The town of Nenagh was quick and easy for dining and shopping.
I would definitely recommend this location. Thanks Paul

Sociable, creative, and passionate about period properties, having restored many, including The Silvermines accommodation. I have lived in different countries, and enjoy meeting new people. I like being outdoors, and am happy to inform and show guests the outdoor activities available to them in this local area, in the County of Tipperary.
