My beautiful award winning village is somewhat sleepy, traditional, and quiet, yet only 10 minutes from a busy town, and not so far from the big cities, giving the best of both worlds.
The people are very friendly and helpful ,there is plenty of beautiful flora, wildlife and birds, even wild horses and goats up in the hills. They say the Silvermines gets under your skin and you will always return.
For local travelling a car would be preferable. Taxis and mini buses are available from the village. Bicycles can be hired in Nenagh town. There is a train station to major cities and also a coach station in Nenagh that also goes to all the major cities. Regular coaches to the airports Shannon ( 1 hr) and Dublin (2.30Hrs) airports making this a very central location for all parts of Ireland. Guests will be picked up from Nenagh and taken to the Silvermines.

We highly recommend The Silvermines and its hosts Paul and Karin. Old Forge II was an absolute joy to reside in and the village is a great craic. We look forward to staying there again!
Thank you Paul for letting us stay at your wonderful place in Nenagh and your kind hospitality. It was such a beautiful place! We can highly recommend it to anyone, who appreciates high quality standards.
The rooms are just as nice, if not BETTER, in person. Paul was a great Host, Dickeys Pub across the street and small grocery store sure make it convenient for supplies or a pint. Tom at the the Pub is just as friendly and the locals love to tell TALL Tales. Made for a wonderful time. We stayed in Old Forge II, had tons of room, plenty of charm.
The location was not the best for us and our Itinerary, but that was offset by having such a great place to come back to each day. You can't go wrong staying there with Paul at the Silvermines.
Staying at the Old Forge Cottages was an absolutely amazing experience! The cottages themselves were beautiful- with every modern convenience but still lots of charm. We rented both cottages for a small family reunion and it was more than enough space. The grounds around the cottages, including the private backyard/garden, and the surrounding hills were spectacular! a great getaway from the city. We did not get to meet Paul as he was out of town, but Karin showed us around and made herself available for anything we needed. Paul kept in communication with us and was very helpful in answering questions prior to booking (and very understanding when we accidentally ruined one of his tea kettles!). If you will be visiting around nenagh or Silvermines this is the place to stay and a great deal, too.
Where to start? A bit of heaven on earth! Amazing accommodation with attention to details. Friendly hosts - arrived to scone bread and a few basics in the refrigerator. Thank you! Perfectly situated for discovering Ireland. 2 hr drive to most major cities. I honestly did not want to pack my bags to leave. Thank you for having us to stay!
Excellentes conditions d'accueil. Notre hôte s'est montré très prévenant à notre égard. Le logement est agréablement meublé avec un goût certain. L'endroit est calme à deux pas de sentiers de promenade et d'un...pub.
A real treat, the property was almost fairytale. It was spacious, warm and immaculate. The hosts were great, very friendly and helpful and the log fire was ready to light on arrival. The gardens were beautiful and the surrounding mountains idyllic. We loved it and would return in a heart beat.
