When you want to get away from it all and relax, "Number 24" provides an excellent base close to the City of Dunedin.
All the basics of a motel room, with the comfort of making yourself at home, plus the ambience of being in quiet natural surroundings.
Past guests have come to explore the area, to hang out for a weekend with a friend, to write some more of their novel/thesis, to be out of town when visiting Dunedin for hospital/events, and to job hunt from a destressing base!
We welcome you.

The space
"24" is attached to our garage, and about 35m from our home - so self contained, but able to access our assistance if needed. One step up gets you into the unit, and the bathroom is recessed one step down off the living floor - accessibility is easy.
A park for your vehicle outside the room, enables you to have easy access and come-and-go at your leisure.
The area of Blueskin Bay boasts quiet cafes, a library, bush, beach, ecological interpretation, and a general sense of being in a rural setting whether you choose to drive or walk around.
Being self-contained, "24" allows you to be on your own timetable. Heating in winter, and a fan in summer mean the indoors is always comfortable... and the small courtyard and seating beside the unit, give you a place to gently soak up the ambience of rural views and estuary.

Guest access
As well as your fully self contained accommodation there is a single car park available and a private courtyard to relax in and enjoy this unique environment.

Orokonui Ecosanctuary, Doctors Point Beach and Warrington Beach are all a short drive away.
The Ecosanctuary is very special and their cafe is also great. Make time to visit the visitor centre at least 😀
In 15 minutes drive you can be in Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Karitane or Waikouaiti.
Or reduce your carbon emissions while here and spend the time in the village - a grocery store, cafes, art galleries and the local library are all within 10 minutes walk.
Orokonui Estuary Track is right across the road and is a 1 hr walking loop.
Gallery on Blueskin hosts meals and live musicians several times a week.
Blueskin Nurseries and Cafe are great for daytime dreaming and eating well.
Harvey St Merchants boasts locally sourced fresh produce and great icecream (Th-Sun) .
Waitati Design store is open Friday - Sunday. Home and decor deliciousness.
Market Day is the first Sunday morning each month - an eclectic mix of craft, second hand, artists, local food. Lots of fun!

I am a self-employed property manager, renting mainly in the University of Otago area. Airbnb offers me the chance to host people on a more personal level. Sam works in property maintenance - which keeps him fit for heading to the mountains and hills for holidays! We have been married for over 40 years, and we love the outdoors - moving in it, being in it, meditating in it ! We also really enjoy food and harvesting food, relaxing in natural surroundings with reading, and keeping up with our three adult kids. We are so blessed to live in this amazing part of the world! We used Airbnb a bit when travelling in Ireland, Scotland and Australia over the years, and enjoyed the experience of meeting other people, and learning from them about their area. We hope we can be the same sort of hosts when you visit us.

During your stay
We are as present as you want us to be as hosts. We both work during the day - and have a home office where some of our day is spent. Personally we prefer to be left to our own devices when we "get away from it all", and we appreciate that you may feel the same.
