This sweet newly renovated home and studio is situated within a 2 minute walking distance from charming downtown Occidental. It is a sacred spot for a creative and quiet weekend retreat amongst the redwoods and minutes away from the coast along Coleman Valley Road, an extraordinary drive.
The bedroom, which has a full size bed, is spacious and light during the day and quiet at night. It has a desk and small studio table to write or draw at. The luminous + large studio space is the perfect spot to do your morning yoga/mediation practice or to spread out some paper and paint during the day or evening (art supplies included!).
There is a full size/semi industrial kitchen that is perfect for those who like to cook and the market in town offers local and organic food. The cozy living room/dining area has a low dinner table + tons of cushions to lounge on - perfect for yogi style dining or an after dinner cup of tea. Regular dining table and chairs are also available.

There are many amazing activities going on in town such as Massage, Yoga, The Occidental Center for the Arts (which has monthly music events), and many restaurants including the famous Howard’s Station for an amazing brunch. There are local trails to walk along (without having to drive to) and Armstrong woods and the Grove of Old Redwood Trees are close by car.

Interaction with Guests
The only time I will possibly be here is at check-in time. The guests have private access to the entire space (excluding the host's bedroom).
This is a uniquely converted kindergarten classroom of the local school. There's an Arts Center next door that hosts wonderful music events and a French Bistro a stones throw away.
It's best to have a car as there are no local buses. Once you get here, shopping/nature/restaurants are all within a 2 minute walk to town!
Other Things to Note
Check in time and check out time is flexible. Please let me know an approximate arrival and departure time in advance. JUST A HEADS UP about the siren that may go off - there's a Volunteer Fire Station down the street that sounds a loud siren - it means there's a fire and they are calling in the volunteers. Thank you!
Please respect that there is ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL, DRUGS or SMOKING allowed in the house or anywhere on the property. This space is used to host meditation, yoga and kirtan and I would love to sustain the energy to support those offerings. Also, please keep noise to a minimum, as this is a very quiet neighborhood. No parties or large groups of entertaining please either. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the space I cannot allow dogs or cats. Some people in the community are quite sensitive and have allergies. Thank you very much!
The experience of the stay well reflected the advertisement posted. The space was beautiful, large and private, and comfortably accommodated my friend and I on our two-day stay in Occidental (a fun and quiet town). As mentioned, it surely is a place of "inspiration" as it is an art studio :) We never met Jennifer as she was not present for check-in or check-out, but it was no problem because everything was well-explained.
Jennifer was incredibly responsive and proactive during the booking/inquiry stages. She always responded to my messages right away and everything went exactly as she explained. The place was easy to find and access, and was in a great location relative to the small town of Occidental - very easy to walk to shops and restaurants. She left us hand-drawn maps of places to go with some of her favorites highlights. The place is spacious, light and welcoming - very comfortable all around. I would recommend Jennifer's place for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing and renewing getaway, and I would definitely stay there again if our travels take us back to Occidental.
The reservation was canceled 12 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Jennifer did a good job providing great detailed information. It was an easy check-in process!
We had a great stay in Jennifer's studio! The location is great - we were able to visit a redwood grove (one of Jennifer's recommendations), beautiful beaches along the coast, an incredible bakery, the Russian River, and many of the nice towns located in Sonoma County. The studio is spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The kitchen had all of the equipment we needed to cook two meals during our stay. I loved that there were yoga mats, art supplies, and books to read. Her studio is perfect for a relaxing weekend! I hope to stay here again.
Jennifer's place was super cute, as advertised. She was also extremely helpful throughout the process. And Occidental is an amazing town!
We had a wonderful stay at Jennifer's studio. The place is an art and yoga studio, and quite large but still cozy. Everything was clean and instructions were clear. Interesting art work is hanging all over and there are even supplies for making your own if you feel inspired (my daughter sure did).
It's just a two minute walk to occidental's excellent restaurants. We visited the farmers market and the old redwood grove our first day. We took off for the coast the second day. We brought back some fresh fish and fixed it up in the excellent kitchen (gas range and good assortment of utensils).
There are just so many amazing things to see and visit around this area, we wish we'd had more time! The studio was a perfect home base. I would definitely recommend this place for a friend.
