Very peacefully situated at the edge of a charming and picturesque village halfway between the high Pyrenees and the sea, the location enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Both the house and private garden have spectacular south-facing views

The countryside around the house and throughout region is wonderful for those with an interest in nature, hiking, mountain biking. High mountains, deep gorges, caves, crystal clear rivers and lakes are all around.
The garden looks down into the river valley where the narrow gauge ‘Petit Train Jaune’ (Little Yellow Train) takes passengers on one of Europe’s most dramatically scenic train routes.
Close by, mineral rich hot springs flow out from the mountains, into batheable pools, both within their natural setting and within the lovely open air swimming pool establishment at St Thomas les Bains (10km away).
The region is rich in historical interest with many Romanesque churches and ancient abbeys. Several of the ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’ are within a short drive.
A car is necessary.
Other Things to Note
A car is essential. Airport: Perpignan (1 hour), Girona (2 hours), Carcassonne (2 hours) Train: Olette (5km) The village is reached by 3km of mountain road which has a few narrow stretches where two cars cannot pass each other, you may prefer to arrive during daylight hours if this concerns you. Car parking is available in the centre of the village, a two minute walk from the house. The location of the parking and the steepness of the internal stairs make the house unsuitable for those with mobility problems.
If you want to have a great holiday in a tiny village on a mountain top, surrounded only by clouds and clean air, a shepherd next door, french originals and some stray cats, a lone nun, singing water, and the odd holiday visitor - all this in your private 'cave' with fenced garden - THIS is your perfect choice! Unique, fabulous, extraordinary. We had a wonderful week in Canaveilles whose only disadvantage is that it is too small for a boulangerie. The house was very atmospheric and the interior had a very well-matched and personal style. Very well-chosen bits and pieces, great art work, beautiful cupboards and dressers, and everything nicely framed in mint green.
The kitchen was well equipped (a nut cracker for your own walnut tree) and in good shape, so was the bathroom and the rest of the house. Keith was very friendly and provided us with all the information we needed. Thank you for a great holiday!
