The Space

The delightful corner study in my home features a Scandinavian slatbed, panoramic volcano views and free wi-fi and domestic long distance calling. Plus, itʻs very tranquil, cozy and welcoming. My home is located in upper Ha`iku, very near to Makawao town, with its shops, restaurants and nightlife. Yet, itʻs in the mountains, so cool at night. Parking is at the door. Allow ten minutes to drive to swimming and twenty to the airport. The zipline is just up the road and the national park is just up the highway. The property is large, so thereʻs no road noise, only the sounds of the breeze in the trees, lots of fruit growing here and birds, goats, cows and horses nearby.
You will probably want to have a car to explore Maui, but, if you are and avid biker, you could connect with our excellent bus service in Makawao, close by.
Iʻve lived on Maui for many years and worked as a travel professional. So, I can advise you how to make the most of your trip and see everything youʻve been dreaming about. Bon voyage!

Guest Access

As my guest, you will have access to (in addition to your guestroom) the kitchen, bath, library, livingroom, diningroom, sunroom, lanai (patio) and grounds. There is a laundry room on site.

Interaction with Guests

I will be available as much as you wish, to answer questions, make suggestions and/or be social. If you prefer to be left alone, thatʻs fine, too.

The Neighborhood

As most Mauians know, Ha`iku is "no ka oi" (#1) on Maui, which is "no ka oi" amongst islands. Thatʻs because it has the fewest negatives of anywhere on island (all neighborhoods have many, many positives), i.e. no cane burning, no commercial centers, no hotels or big tourist attractions, no traffic jams, no ambient noise, no parking problems, etc., etc. I love Ha`iku!!!

Getting around

The Maui Bus comes to Ha`iku regularly, but, you would need to be a good biker to get to it. Much better, by far, rent a car.

  • Thank you Na'ia for your serene accommodations. Food preparation was a breeze, great fridge, water fresh right out of the tap, shower hot and refreshing, my bed and room cozy and I could hear the rain outside when it rained, and the refreshing wind, even stars overhead at night, it is very quiet at night, and horses in the pasture just munching on the knee-high grasses, its horse-heaven in the (website hidden)'ia gave me space in the morning to get my day and breakfast prepared, which was perfect so I could gather my thoughts and plan for each day's adventure.

  • 房间尽管不大,但很舒适,厨房卫生间客厅都是共用,房子整体布置非常丰富多彩,Nai'A 是严格素食者,鸡蛋奶制品都不吃,很热情通情达理。希望下次还有机会去她家。

  • First off, Nai'a is a hoot! Very interesting history, terrific conversation, great sense of humor.

I chose to stay in the up country to do something different. I traveled on very short notice, so there was nothing available near the beaches anyway. Nai'a's location is wonderful- peaceful countryside, nice views, not too far from Makawao.

The room I rented is about 8' X 8', so with a bed and a full-size desk, it was a bit cramped for my taste, but totally workable. I didn't mind the roosters in the morning- that's life in the country- I found it kind of enlivening.

The other comment is that I don't think the kitchen was fully set up for cooking- but I was one of Nai'a's first guests, so she may well still be in the process of equipping things. If you just want a refrigerator and microwave you're all set. But I found the utensils and pans a bit limiting for more involved stove-top cooking.

Nai'a was just as pleasant and accommodating as a host(ess) can be, and the setting is really wonderful. If you're looking for something different, I would definitely consider staying here!

  • To be leaving in the country side of Maui was a splendid and great experience.
Moonlight on the bed with the stars were nice to fall asleep.
The villages of Haiku and Paia offers everything you would need.

Naia is a nice host and her lovely bookshelf is full of great books!

I spent 10 days in Paradise.
