Please check out our new listing "SOCO Six Pack"!
Super charming house in popular South COngress/St. Edwards area.
*Please read all reviews. Almost all are positive. We had an isolated incident that reflected poorly on us almost two years ago. Please note improvements, have been made and this space is one of the best deals in downtown.
This studio is a cozy 3rd floor corner unit with lots of light, upbeat decor and great view of the Capitol you definitely know your in Austin here! The midtown/downtown location has amazing restaurants: Claypit for Indian food , Sagra for Italian, and Japanese cuisine at the new Lavaca Teppan restaurant all within a block of the apartment. You can crawl home from DIVE bar and Dog and Duck pub which is literally in our back yard, so fun! ! ! In addition guests can walk to the Blanton and Bullock Museums to view world-class art and IMAX features. Walk to the Capitol for sight seeing or be across the river via public transportation (stops are on the corner of our street) for SOCO shopping. U T is also in walking distance. You can't get more in the heart of the city than this!! !! !!
Dr. John Rodden, professor of Psychology at the Univerisity of Texas took a year long teaching position in Taiwan in the Fall of 2011. Hipster House transformed his residence into a warm space with a creative feel. An inviting and economically smart alternative option to a hotel for those visiting the city. During his time abroad Dr. Rodden was able to maintain the expense of maintaining his home through our STR management services.
The first impression was not good. The building was a bit rundown on the outside, and more than a bit on the inside. I was pretty worried. However, the room itself very clean and nicely furnished. Greg was extremely helpful and seemed very concerned that my stay be satisfactory, insisting that I call him if I had any problems. The next day he followed up to make sure that I had everything I needed. One reviewer complained about roaches. I did see one roach over my three night stay, though that hardly seems like much of an infestation. Over all Greg and the room deserve a 5, but I can't give the building a perfect score. I wish I could give a 4.5 or something. I would definitely stay here again
The guys were great hosts. There was an issue with the original unit we planned on staying in but they resolved it by getting us into an equal looking place before we even arrived in Austin.
The building was located in the arts district and you definitely get the artsy feel. It's a great place to capture all that the city has to offer with a few cool places to eat.
(This review is for "Unique and Charming in Downtown!")
Greg was a very friendly host, and he went out of his way to show my friend and I the neighborhood, drive us to the grocery store for a shopping trip and to the airport at the end of our three-week stay. Before moving in there were plumbing issues at the first appt that I booked from Greg, and he switched us to his other appt instead of bumping us, which was great. It was obvious that Greg cared about our comfort and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our time in Austin.
The apartment is wonderful for a weekend stay in Austin; the location is excellent, there’s cold water in the fridge, and the bed was comfy at the end of a long day. However, the apartment was not very well equipped for a long stay, particularly for more than one person. The kitchen is large, but the lack of kitchenware made it extremely difficult to cook, and perishable food often spoiled in the refrigerator in only a few days.
The bed in the bedroom is comfy, but the couch is not a comfortable place to spend more than a night or two. Greg was nice enough to bring down an extra mattress to put on the floor, but that wasn’t the most comfortable option, and it proved an inconvenience by covering most of the living room floor. Though if you’re traveling alone or with a significant other, this shouldn’t be a problem.
The Wi-Fi too, was only partially functional. Basic web browsing and e-mail was a possibility, but the signal was usually too weak to load a Youtube video, and my iPhone couldn’t find any signal at all.
If you are looking for a few days to explore and enjoy Austin, I’d recommend Greg’s place. For a longer stay, be prepared to bring your own Wi-Fi card, and check with Greg regarding kitchen accommodations.
STAY AWAY!! Roach-Infested nightmare!
The building was frightening and hasn't been maintained in a very very long time. Reminiscent of a crack-house. The door to the apartment even had a big hole in the bottom where a vent had been kicked out and replaced by a duct taped piece of cardboard. Safe right?!!?
The apartment also had some sort of powder sprinkled EVERYWHERE which I didn't notice until I had been breathing it in for far too long. Turns out the powder was toxic roach poison which didn't even do ANYTHING. Roaches were all over the place!
I ran for the door and straight to a Days Inn upon finding one in the bed. *shudder*
Sorry Greg, you may be nice, but no human should be forced to stay here. This building needs to be tented and/or bulldozed.
I did not stay here but in another of the apartments in this building. I wanted to stay in the pictured apartment but was told last minute that it wasn't available. I distinctly remembered seeing the photos of our "surprise!" apartment and thinking "No way would I stay there." I have never stayed anywhere so gross. We were stuck and it was only for one night so I bit the bullet. Concrete floors, a bed so saggy you would need a chiropractor after more than 2 nights, a kitchen floor that was covered in dirty torn linoleum, a fridge so loud it kept you up all night and 3 BOLTS on the door AND a chain. Greg was really nice, friendly and tried to be helpful. I hope he's getting paid a lot or that he finds a nicer job, because he can do a lot better than foisting scummy apartments on unsuspecting travelers. He said it was a problem with the site but judging from other comments, it's just a line. What was even more ridiculous was that he said "I think you are really going to like it." NOT EVEN A HOMELESS CRACK HEAD WOULD LIKE IT! And it's not even cheap! If you paid $50 it would be acceptable, not $90.
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I enjoyed staying at Greg's place. It was clean and quiet. He was easy to communicate with. Overall a great stay!
Everthing was great! My boyfriend and I had never been to Austin or rented a condo/apartment type! We were able to walk around and see everything from UT's campus to the Capitol. Greg was responsive and assistive. He gave suggestions and followed up with us! When we got to his residence, candles were lit! It was awesome and I would definitely book with him again!
Awesome location and nice place. Clean sheet and towels and a place to park. Greg was so great and even worked with me to accommodate an unfortunately late arrival. Highly recommend it.
Truly awesome. Clean, close and convenient with parking included. Greg is awesome and super helpful. Not sure if there is internet, but otherwise it is awesome.
