Interaction with Guests
Caretaker onsite and available if needed.
The house is a 10 minute walk from the village of Montezuma. You can walk along the beach or you can walk on a small, shaded beach road.
You can hike the waterfalls, take yoga classes, go horseback riding, take a boat tour and much, much more. Montezuma is a friendly and healthy community which attracts people from all over the world. Don't be surprised if you bump into someone you know!
There are two markets in town for grocery shopping or any other supplies you may need. Many wonderful restaurants are close by, most notably Cocolores, L'Angolo Allegro, Puggo's and Playa de los Artistos. Small souvenir shops are also scattered along the main road. There are plenty of local artists selling their unique handcrafted jewelry along the street. Montezuma has an active nightlife including a couple of bars that have music. Try to catch the local talent of fire dancing (poi) with the weekly nighttime performances in the middle of town.
The cottage is located right next to the Ylang Ylang Resort. It isn't even necessary to have a car in this area as everything is very accessible and there's so much to do. We do not encourage driving from the village to the house. It is free to park in town and our caretaker will be happy to haul your luggage in and out.
Other Things to Note
There are two other houses on this large family owned property. There's a four bedroom house which can sleep up to 8 people and a cabin suitable for 2 people. These houses are also available to rent. Inquire about renting all three for large groups. Plan a family reunion or a wedding on the sand!

this airbnb property owner is not available on site so he has a caretaker next door. the caretaker is extremely nice. the plumbing is a little wacky there (the sinks and the were kind of a setback, but they were still usable). it was extremely hot when we were there as there is only one medium standing fan. is a beautiful property and would probably return because the caretakers were so helpful and everything else about the place is great, would recommend to someone. thanks!
This open air cottage at Firefly Beach Houses was everything we were hoping for in Costa Rica. Beautiful grounds, steps from the ocean, and a hammock hanging amongst the palms was exactly what I envisioned. It was so picturesque that my boyfriend proposed on the beach! We were the only ones staying on the property at the time, and it was absolute bliss having the area to ourselves for six glorious days. I loved sitting in the hammock all day reading and then popping into the waves to cool down every once in awhile. Listening to the breaking waves at night was pure relaxation. Plus, the cottage was just the right distance away from town--not too far and not too close. Having the laundry on-site was a huge bonus. And I was glad for the mosquito net, which helped keep the flying ants and couple of very large spiders that graced us with their presence at bay. We also were able to hear the howler monkeys moving through the backyard's forest and witness the annual jungle crab migration, which was super cool. This is the rainforest, after all! We didn't cook because all of the restaurants in town are fantastic, especially Playa de los Artistas. The property manager, Ximena, was especially helpful, providing us with useful information and even offering to meet us in town when we arrived. Mercedes, who assists with cleaning and upkeep, and Javier, who manages the grounds, were on site for a few hours most days to help us with any issues. Though they didn't speak English, they were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The property also offers cleaning services, including floor washing, for an extra fee. All in all a fantastic trip and definitely helped make our stay in Montezuma phenomenal and memorable!
The cottage was perfect for my husband and I. We loved having the windows open as we slept and hearing the waves crash all night then waking up to the monkeys (EARLY!) in the morning. We ambled down to the beach to watch the sunrise then made coffee or walked into town for breakfast.
We parked the first night at the Eco Tours lot that was recommended but they were charging $10 per night so then we just parked along the dirt road closer to the house for the rest of the time - careful not to leave anything of value in the car.
The proximity to Ylang Ylang Resort was great to get breakfast or if you wanted to sign up for a yoga class. I would definitely return.
Bernat was quick with communication and helping us meet with the caretaker. The cottage is inside right by the beach, and a second caretaker of the grounds helped us with any needs. We had a wonderful time staying at this beautiful beach. Thank you Bernat!
The beach cottage was very relaxing and peaceful. I enjoyed dozing in the hammock, watching the waves roll in. We fell asleep to the sounds of the surf and woke to the songs of tropical birds. During the heat of the day, the ocean is just steps away and you can relax in the shade and watch the birds and iguanas. We didn't cook as the Ylang-Ylang resort was next door and a short walk took us to many options in Montezuma. If you stay here, be sure to take an evening walk on the beach to enjoy the stars!
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful place. In fact, the photos don't really do it justice, it was more beautiful than what we expected. Getting to the cottage was a little tricky as we had to drag our suitcases on the beach, but once we got there we were enchanted by a beautiful garden, coconut trees, deck chairs, hammocks, steps away from an almost deserted beach. A truly wonderful experience.
