Private, small, quiet bedroom in 1920 Craftsman-style house; new queen-size bed; private bathroom; towels, soap, shampoo provided; heater in room; kitchen available but we're not super tidy! Easy parking on quiet street; Outdoor smoking allowed. Original art by Abigail in room. (All art is for sale. Inquire if interested.)
You're welcome to use the kitchen and back yard.
Sorry, but living/dining room not available.
Interaction with Guests
It really varies depending on our availability and that of our guests, and on mutual interest. Some guests we barely see, others we sit around and gab with for a while.
Pretty, residential neighborhood. Walk to great restaurants, coffee shops, natural food store, Safeway, CVS. Quick, easy access to UCSC, West Cliff Drive, beaches, boardwalk, downtown Santa Cruz. Bus stops very close.
Bus stop four blocks away.
Other Things to Note
We check email every day, except when we go camping for a few days once or twice a month. If we don't reply to you right away, that's the reason. We'll respond as soon as we can.
Smoking allowed at table in backyard only. Sorry, living room and dining room not available. You may use the kitchen; but be forewarned--we usually wash dishes only once a day, and our kitchen is often a bit of a mess. Enter and exit through back door (right next to your room) and lock when you go out unless we're at home. Keys provided. Please park in front of our house when there's space, not in front of neighbors'.
Another great stay at Abby's place...love the raspberries and tomatoes ripe for picking in the back yard...great weather all week, topped by our daughter's wedding. A great place to stay on Santa Cruz's west side.
A wonderful place to stay! Abbie and Morgan were both very welcoming and friendly. Their house and neighborhood are cute, and it's a lovely room, with plenty of closet and bureau space, as well as space in the bathroom cabinets, which is nice if you're staying for a few days. I liked having the back door as my entrance/exit; it made it feel more private. Abbie was very flexible about check-in/check-out times. I was doing research at the university, and there was a bus stop nearby that takes you to UCSC, downtown, boardwalk, and the beach. There were several nice restaurants and a Safeway within walking distance, as well as Kelly's French Bakery-- I would recommend their delicious breakfasts and pastries. I would definitely stay here again.
Listing was as expected and neighborhood was nice. We were provided w/ just the right amount of "welcome" and information without feeling overwhelmed.
Our host helped us choose which redwood forest to visit. It was great advise: incredibly beautiful and surprisingly close to the house.
Abbie and her husband were very welcoming. Abbie stayed up late on the night of my arrival to get me a key. The accommodations were as presented: small but comfortable bedroom, private bathroom with shower stall across the way, private access through the back door. The kitchen is adjacent to the bedroom/both accommodations, separated by a curtain. I was always concerned I was intruding in Abbie's family events (the grandchildren came over Sunday afternoon when I stopped back in briefly), but that was on me. The bed/bath were very clean, full of windows and sunshine. The neighborhood seemed safe and was very quiet. Abbie took time to discuss area art museums and other sites worth seeing. A very nice stay. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the very nice review, David. Gosh, maybe I could've helped you feel more comfortable about "intruding"--we never mind our guests coming into the kitchen or leaving the separating curtain open whenever they choose, or even hanging out in the kitchen and chatting a while or meeting our visitors. I guess I didn't make that clear enough, and I apologize for your discomfort.
Abbie was extremely responsive, polite, and welcoming. I was staying for work, so I greatly appreciated that the house was quiet and WIFI was readily available. I had access to the backyard and the neighborhood was very convenient. Abbie made great recommendations for nearby restaurants or places to shop and was very accommodating about access to the kitchen.
Clean, cozy and friendly. Nice room with a very comfortable bed in the back of the house with its own private bathroom (also clean and well stocked with towels, bath tissue and soaps). The neighborhood is very quiet and both nights I slept soundly. Both Abbie and her husband were very nice. I highly recommend their place.
Abbie was very friendly and helpful. She even washed my outfit for the retreat I was at when I asked if I could use the washing machine. She made space in the frig for me and I cooked a simple breakfast in the morning and used the space for snacks at times. The room is exactly as in the picture. the bathroom is across the hall and just for the guests. All very clean and well appointed with toothpaste, alarm clock, lots of little things. Reading light on each side of the bed. I was in a demanding class and was so glad to come home to my comfortable room and I always slept well.
The neighborhood is residential and on a not a through street, so very quiet. Very close to quite a few good shopping areas and restaurants. close to the beach and close to downtown. Private entrance so you don't have to go through the house. Great location.
Highly recommend this accommodation.
I have one husband, three kids, two grandkids. I'm a visual artist--mostly I do stark and sensuous landscape close-ups in pastel and colored pencil. I love exploring California wilderness; crazy about African dance; used to be in theater.
