Absolutely fabulous place with the best hosts ever!
I loved Sarah's studio. It is modern, efficient and simple, in the best possible way. The garden is gorgeous and welcoming. The neighborhood is perfect for a Berkeley/Oakland visit. I highly recommend it.
I stayed at Sarah's for 2 months while apartment hunting and starting at a new job, and it was perfect for what I needed. The room is precisely as pictured and as described by the other reviewers. It includes a microwave, mini fridge, and dresser, as well as all the little things you might need but might not have thought of-- a space heater, alarm clock, a few dishes, extra blankets/pillows/towels, cleaning supplies, coffee maker and electric kettle, etc. You can do laundry in the garage. Having my own entrance was really nice.
The house isn't a super close walk to BART or to areas that have a lot of stores, but for me it was worth it to be in a very quiet, beautiful residential part of Berkeley.
Sarah and John were great hosts and would catch up with me when I occasionally ran into them; they were always available if I needed anything but never disturbed me otherwise. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would come back if I needed to stay in Berkeley again.
Perfect host. I can only confirm all the positive comments of the previous reviews. The room is precisely as described. There is really a lot of light coming in, and high ceiling doesn't feel like a basement. I was impressed the way the space is used, it is very efficient and designed with taste. Very peaceful. The table is great. I was visiting UC Berkely to do research. I gladly walked to campus on the flowery and scented streets of that part of Berkeley. I had to leave abruptly for family reasons and Sarah was extremely nice and understanding. I stayed a little short of 1 month, instead of 3 months. I will absolutely look up again 1429 Channing Way if the occasion presents itself.
I had a very nice stay at Sarah's!! The place is very nice (in particular the shower is beautiful), very clean, convenient and pleasant, and the separate entrance is quite useful. I appreciated to make my coffee while listening to the local radio in the mornings.
The person who was renting upstairs was very quiet so I did not hear any noise.
Further, the areas are very peaceful at night, and there is a shop and some places to eat at the corner. I tried a lunch restaurant and a take out restaurant (and then used the microwave).
It's clean and quiet. Sarah is willing to help all the time. Several days after I checked out, Sarah received a FedEx for me. It's an important file. Thanks Sarah for letting me know without our delay.
We enjoyed our stay at Sarah's place and it fit our needs perfectly, comfortable, (mostly) quiet, nicely situated, with a lovely backyard. Sarah is very generous and supportive in helping us settle in and getting us situated. Happily recommend staying here.
This is a clean, comfortable and private space. We enjoyed our visit and the convenient location in a neighborhood close to our family.
I stayed in Sarah's room for a couple weeks during December while on business. It was a relaxing, well equipped place to stay. Sarah's an architect and designed the room herself, so everything was nicely crafted and functional. A comfy bed, nice shower, wifi, iron, space heater, plenty of closet space, and even laundry if you need it — pretty much everything but a kitchen. She was super nice and there to help as needed. I noticed that some suggestions people left here in the reviews had been accommodated (i.e. a coffee maker, extra blankets, rugs).
Berkeley has plenty of restaurants, taquerias, etc. so there are plenty of options to eat. Check out Vik's Chaat (a mile down Channing) for Indian you've almost surely never had before. Tacqueria Monte Cristo and Ta Krai Hom thai were some other nice walkable options. There's also a Trader Joe's not too far away.
The walk to BART is a bit long, I'd definitely second Sarah's recommendation to take Acton. It feels much shorter than walking to/from Downtown Berkeley with a distinctly east bay vibe and no college kids (!) along the way. At night the Berkeley streets can be quite dark, but the area is safe and you can see the stars.
A nice, clean, secluded room. We weren't around much because we were house hunting, but when we were, it was comfortable. There's definitely some noise from the people who live upstairs, might bother you if you are a light sleeper or care about that. It didn't bother us.
