Our stay at Gusde's House was our first Airbnb experience, and our first time visiting Bali.
We had an absolutely wonderful time, and were looked after brilliantly by both Made and Wayan (1 and 2 - two people with the same names). We met Gusde on our second day. He was very welcoming and interesting to talk to.
We booked the pick up from the airport and Made collected us as promised. We were a little apprehensive at first, especially driving down the lane to the house, which was very bumpy! We needn't have worried though. The house It is just as shown in the pictures and really is luxury amongst the rice paddy fields.
After sorting out our luggage, Made drove us into Ubud and recommended a nice restaurant, Bali Pesto. He also picked us up after and there was no extra charge.
Later on Wayan called in to see if we needed anything, and showed us how to use the safe. He suggested a day trip for the next day for $US 50 for both of us. Well what a day we had. We visited a Balinese dance, silver making, wood carving, traditional Balinese House, waterfall, volcano, spring water temple and even tasted a Durian fruit. Such a lovely day and well worth the cost. Wayan was a great guide and explained lots of things, so we learned something about Balinese culture.
Wayan then came back to take us to Ubud so we could visit a restaurant, and he also picked us up afterwards, again, for no extra charge.
We had wonderful breakfasts of omelettes, toast and jam and fresh fruit, with fruit juice and tea.
We really enjoyed our stay and being away from the touristy areas.
We were woken in the mornings with a cockerel and dog barking, but that was great. Countryside sounds. Everyone who passed by was so friendly.
The infinity pool was great, with views over the paddy fields and palm trees. Although the pool is shared, we had it all to ourselves.
We met other guests at breakfast who were staying in the apartment upstairs, and we had some good conversations.
It was such a great experience, lovely accommodation, the service was fantastic and food brilliant.
We highly recommend Gusde's House for anyone wanting something different to staying in hotels, and to feel very welcome and looked after.
Gusde House was amazing and the photos don't do this place justice! We loved the variety of breakfast each morning and Wayan our host was so very accommodating - thank you for having us :o)
Very clean, friendly staff, amazing view from the pool. Location was just what we hoped for, just outside of ubud in the rice paddies. Perfect if you are independant and on a scooter, i.e. Eat out and/or stock your fridge; since it is a family run guesthouse there are not many guests so the (beautiful) warung at the entrance closes early, so noone was around to ask if you have any questions in the evening. Breakfast was great, the whole experience as well. Would definitely come back.
My husband and I stayed with Gusde in the main guest house and we were very comfortable. Gusde allowed us to change our booking at the last minute and it was no problem to him. Wayan the driver was also very likeable and helpful to us. The pool is beautiful with lovely views over the ricefields. You need a scooter to get around as the villa is not in Ubud but no problem for us. The breakfast was also very good.
We had an amazing stay at Gusde's place. The hosts were lovely and the home stay was really charming. Everything was very clean and the room size was really impressive. We've stayed there for 3 nights and we had 3 different breakfast for each morning. The view from the pool is beautiful and the location is perfect.
We've stayed at Gusde's appartement for three nights and we've enjoyed it a lot. The room was clean and very nicely arranged. The BRAND-NEW pool was really a highlight with a beautiful view across the rice fields which we highly recommend. Perfect place to relax!
Furthermore we loved the breakfast with pancakes and balinese coffee...yum yum! :)
All of the employees were friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Wayan who organised our trip to the top of Mt. Batur - a wonderful day which we'll never forget!
All in all we can definitely recommend Gusde's appartement, especially to people who wants to get in touch with the culture of Bali and the wonderful nature with the well known rice paddies!
This was a great place to stay. Modern home which was away from the busy area of ubud which faces open fields.
Shortly upon arrival we met up with Gusde and he is such a nice person. If you are looking to get away from the hustle & bustle, this is definatelly the place to be in. Its abt 10-15mins scooter ride to the central part of ubud.
My husband, Marc, and I stayed at Gusde's for one week. It was an
absolute breath of fresh air. We were greeted by Gusde himself and were
served a refreshing welcome drink (we did a one night at his family’s home
before arriving to the actual guest house). Gusde ensured that we had a
nice stay by allowing us to utilize his family invitation to a royal family
funeral ceremony, shared he and his wife’s traditional clothing, and
invited us to a family celebration. We felt very grateful to have spent
time with Gusde's family; they were all very cordial and openhearted.
We moved on our 2nd day to Gusde's actual guesthouse. It was so wonderful.
The photos resembled the space exactly how I imagined it (perhaps the
space was even better). It's very serene and beautiful. Wayan brought us
a different type of breakfast each morning and accommodated our schedule to
make sure we had a ride to yoga, into town, and back home each day. Wayan
also took us on a spectacular day tour around the island. When we said
goodbye to Wayan, we truly felt sad as if we we're saying goodbye to a
friend. We have been traveling for 5 months and this by far has been my
favorite guesthouse that we have stayed at throughout Southeast Asia.
Wayan and Gusde are top-notch hosts!
If you're looking for culture, relaxation, kind people, and awesome
hospitality, you've found the right place!
We stayed 2 very pleasant nights at this place highly recommend it to anyone who looks for some authentic days in Ubud. What impressed us most was that the staff was able to organize trips on a volcano, to a rice field, and to Lombok within minutes - very helpful.
We stayed in a one bedroom room, which had a very nice outside area with a fish pond. The room was quite clean and linens were adequate, though the pillows were not very fresh. The common kitchen was not clean. The breakfast was good compared to many we have had. We got a ride from Gusde or his staff whenever we needed it (it was really too far to walk to the centre) and appreciated that very much. Unfortunately we could not use the pool as it is reserved for guests who are renting the building next to the pool. Too bad, as they were never seen to use it.
