Josée was excellent to deal with and this villa is as equally gorgeous as the view! Wow! It's magical!
We communicated with Josée via email and had no issues whatsoever. Sandy who helps to manage the villa on site, is equally wonderful. He greeted us, answered every question, every phone call and helped us with anything that we needed.
We rented a car while in Bali and drove ourselves to the villa, Sandy met us at the main street and we followed him up the mountain to the villa. Yes, the road is adventurous, but it's worth it! However, I will say it's important to have transportation of some kind, even a driver, as once you are in the villa - you are up and away from it all. (there is a little local shop very close for essential needs) But for good coffee, restaurants, beach etc. you will need transportation. It's not far at all, it's close to everything - it's just a very tall and narrow mountain road to climb on foot!
The villa itself has a master bedroom on the top floor and the other two bedrooms are basically complete bungalows, separate from the main villa but right beside (left and right). This is the perfect spot for 3 couples, or even an adult family or group of friends travelling together.
If we ever come to Lovina again, this is exactly where we'll stay. It's beautiful, clean, in a great location and the view is outstanding.
One of the most dissatisfying experiences I have ever had.
And let me tell you why!
However I will start with the good things.
The villa is beautiful with a first floor and a view that is hard to beat. It is spacious and clean. The pool was brilliant!
Here are the bad things.
Communication was non-existent. The house manager Sandy did not respond either on phone or email. This was a big problem as the villa is excruciatingly isolated in the hills. Imaging a 5 kilometer ride up the mountain where the last 2 can be compared to an offroad mountainbike road. When we left Amed for Lovina we could not reach Sandy and the directions for the villa was not provided (though it wouldn't be possible to guide via directions). This meant that we just drove to Lovina without knowing where to go. I tried to guide our driver to the pin point on (website hidden) Maps from the airbnb itinerary, but naturally this wasn't where the villa was located. After more than an hour of driving around in the mountains our driver was finally able to reach Sandy. Sandy didn't seem very apologetic - at all. Maybe it was because he couldn't speak English. He really didn't know a single word of English other than 'yes'. He said yes to everything, but never came through on any the requests. Basically we were left to ourselves without any good advice, general tips and such which would be very much appreciated as the is was so remote.
I naturally contacted the host, Josee, and she couldn't reach Sandy either. She tried to explain that he usually answers and that she couldn't do anything as she lives in France. She acted as if it wasn't her responsibility to make sure we had everything we needed. It was just one big mess that made the whole stay stressful and unpleasant.
Additionally the Internet didn't work after the first day. As you can imagine this was a problem, when you are left alone in the hills without any knowledge of where to go to buy food and so on forth.
You need to rent scooter on a daily basis and cars are not suitable at all.
This villa is beautiful, but the host is not capable of renting it out. If you are a family with smaller children it is a no-go unless you wanna spend your entire stay without leaving. And you would want to leave I promise!
Oh yeah, on a final note there are stray dogs that will rob your house in the middle of the night and disintegrate the bin. I had one of my very expensive Tod's loafers stolen. Do I have to mention that we were not advised that this could happen?
Overall an unacceptably bad stay. It did not correspond in any way with all the positive reviews. Maybe I was unlucky, however I doubt it.
Demanding and obnoxious person inadvisable !!!!
Not living there, they made me a report ...
Sandy My Balinese manager
Kadek my cleaning lady
And my parents, neighbors !!!!
Here is the evidence:
1) Joen demanded after several mails, either Sandy that the phone they gave a number of host (which means they could call their sides). Sandy awaited him as is done every time the guests call !!! It's not up to him to call and that's part of the presentation of the house.
2) Joen and her friend came to take a car and driver to whom they gave the Sandy number, they talked to Sandy as always, to a rendezvous instead dolphins in Lovina the best known point in the area !!!
The driver was walking the result they arrived very late, around 3:00 p.m..
UNFORTUNATELY, the road is partially under construction, all the way down to the house, was closed on freshly laid cement, 2 days with a car without driving it !!! I'm sorry I was not aware.
Their driver who followed the scooter Sandy, left them and asked the price of the race, Joen it seems, was rude to the driver and threw him the money .... BRAVO.
3) They had two huge suitcases, they let down the Sandy home, 300 meters with large suitcases on their shoulders, 2 times !!! NOT EVEN THANK YOU ...
4) They understood that they needed at least a scooter to town! (And that's good advice in the presentation of the house)
Sandy phoned a friend and was able to get one right away.
5) Since they arrived in the afternoon, the maid was gone. Lingerie was closed. But the house open and prepared for their arrival. Joen wrote to me saying he wanted to make a machine linen and Sandy did not respond to emails. (Sandy is not behind his computer all day and does not have a smartphone) Sandy after his job is gone.
And lingerie is closed to the public.
6) It went swimming, pool chairs were out, Joen send me back an email becaufe on Wicker chairs, no mattress !!!
I do not have mattresses but I moved my beach towel!
That lingerie is closed, it could not do laundry !!! Kadek (my maid) did his laundry the next day ...
7) They told the guy that brought the scooter that gasoline was too expensive !!!
8) rainy season, big storm, wifi momentarily walking bad, but not cut to send me emails.
9) We are isolated, have you read the description, which states that the house is on a hill 5km Lovina ???
10) Saturday, their location, Spicelink company was working on the tower to put the wifi on! Nobody was there, (a mess of godasses everywhere, clothes on the table and the chairs, they put on the balcony with their pillows, linens on the handrail, etc ..) we had to go back chairs EXHIBITION, Electricity worked on the balcony and in the bathroom ...
11) evening around 19h, the gardiensont said they had not returned ... Nothing had moved and still the same power ???
12) Sandy came the next morning to explain to my parents that Joen had gone to Damaii, luxury hotel to be able to work on his computer! They stayed up late at night, the hotel driver brought them !!! And too expensive gasoline ???
MORE WITH DRIVER !!!!
In addition, we know of the world, Rp (phone number hidden) !!!!
It is not expensive that ???
13) One morning he looked everywhere for her shoe, (very expensive shoes) by 3/4 times he recalled to my mother, complaining that dogs are back in the house !!! (If their shoes were rows this would not have happened !!!!)
My mother explained that Balinese houses are open, it is best not to leave everything on the floor !!!
14) Kadek (the housekeeper), the morning of departure when he closed his suitcase, she saw him take a Baygon box (insecticide), new, my mother had given him. She was very shocked by this gesture.
Bautiful villa, terrible manager.
To check in we had to go up a slippery slope on a road full of blind turns and holes. Two of us, plus two of our bags on a motorbike with the manager, Sandy, leading the way. Extreme and dangerous ride, not for a novice rider. Since hosts organize a proper pick up for much more ordinary locations, we assumed the manager simply didn't have a car.
However, he does have a car. We realized that when he started pushing his taxi services on us. He first offered a double price, then "discounted" to still way too much for a trip to Ubud. I politely declined telling him that I already got a deal, but he persisted in pushing and even texted me in the evening with yet another desperate price change. A host should be somebody who saves you from hustlers like that, but Sandy appeared to be one himself. I refused his offer and it backfired on me.
On our last day Sandy woke us up at 6:45 am (!) with a call and without any formalities asked when we'd leave. I told him (as I did the day before) that we'd leave late afternoon, which made him very inconvenienced and unhappy "normally people check out at 12" he blurted, although villa rules state flexible checkout time. Then he hung up without me finishing the sentence. This early morning interaction made us feel like couchsurfers who overstayed our welcome rather than guests in a luxury villa. Needless to say, we sped up the checkout process and had our bags packed before 12. Sandy appeared for his last performance and expressed disbelief that we payed for our extra day via Airbnb. "Normally, people pay me, in cash" he said.
Apparently, we didn't meet Sandy's standards of "normal" guests. And our overall impression of the stay is entirely ruined.
And it's a shame, because otherwise this could have been a nice stay. Villa is very spacious, well equipped and the view is amazing. Bed is comfortable, the AC works properly. The cleaning lady Kadek comes everyday and does a very thourough job. The pool is huge and deep, kitchen is full of amenities. However, the wi-fi never worked for us.
Pity we never got to meet the owner, Josee as she is living abroad. The villa is in the hands of an unprofessional and indifferent person and what we experienced was manager's version of hospitality and it's below poor.
Yes actually I live in France and it is difficult for me to welcome you.
I heard about the work on the road and that many holes were made, this puts a little adventure in your journey ....
It is recommended in my ad to have a car or a motorcycle. Sandy can serve his driver's prices registered on a sheet next to the TV ...
Sandy has no car he praises and uses for your trips, visits, excurtions ... which allows it to make money in addition to his salary ...
Sorry for the inconvenience!
As for your last night, Sandy received my email after you told him your night extra. Indeed, people give him money.
Thank you for your understanding.
Rumah Kami was beautiful and had everything you needed. The view, cool mountain air and the refreshing swim in the pool any time of day. Our house cleaner was lovely, though she could not speak much English but I was able to use a few Indonesian words to thank her for her hard work and washing/ironing my clothes. Sandy the manager was great and his wife Marie was lovely. We had breakfast at their house one morning and met Marie at the hot pools at her clothing stall. I loved Lovina and was happy I left it til last on my holiday as it was very relaxing. We even hired scooters the last two days at Rumah Kami and suggest like those before me to make sure you are a capable rider as the road can be very steep and slippery. I guess that was the only downfall, the road getting to the villa, a minor hiccup. We felt like the locals and really didn't want to leave. So thank you very much Josée for the wonderful enjoyable holiday. :)
It had been a wonderful stay in Rumah Kami! We stayed for 5 days and enjoyed every moment in the villa.
Josée is a very responsive and friendly host, she replied all the messages within seconds! Hahaha
The villa is definitely a hidden gem, its located at the very top of the hill which you will get a very good view and fresh air. And of course, we had Sandy, the manager, to take care of our transport throughout the stay in Lovina. The place is exactly the same as the photos, and well you will received more than you expected!
*Swimming under the stars! *
We will surely be back, and will bring more friends back the next time! Thankyou for hosting us!
Rumah Kami. A gem tucked away in nothern Bali. You'll be surprised at the amount of amenities provided at the property. From full surround theatre systems, fully furnished kitchen, a clean and spacious room with a balcony looking over lovina town just below you, it's just a wonderful place to stay. Rumah Kami as everyone else has mentioned, for a first timer, it is hard to get to, not by foot. You need transportation but you'll see how this isn't a problem in a few moments. Rumah Kami is situated right up in the hills so you can over look the beautiful scenery be it the town, or the beach that stretches out into the horizon. Great sunset viewing location. I love the place and will definitely come again. Every morning, you will be greeted by a friendly staff who will keep the place clean. Kind and polite, having a conversation with her was nice.
Before you arrive, there's two very important personel you will come across.
Josée would probably be the first. The one who owns the property. She will constantly check up with you making sure everything is alright eventhough she is in France not physically being there with you. She will make sure all your queries are answered and i thank you for that.
Sandy, is the house manager. And where do i begin with him. One of the nicest, most straightforward and kind person i've met during my trip to Bali. He is the one who will be there physically to make sure you're alright. He plans and organizes trips out too if you ever need a tour of lovina or just a simple transport out. I must add, that unfortunately, me and my partner did run into some trouble during our trip to lovina, and if it wasn't for Sandy, i don't know what would have happened to us. He makes us feel safe and secure. I thank you for that.
I had a great time in Rumah Kami. Recommended to all who wishes to get away from busy hustle of the parties to the tranquil sounds of mother nature. Clean and spacious, polite and ready to serve. It has got all the things you need for a great trip up north in Bali. I love you Rumah Kami!
