This serene, cozy mountain hideaway is more like a house than an apartment with oversized rooms and private doorway facing the woods! Rustic and charming, it includes a small but functional kitchen and 3/4 bath with shower. Double bed in the bedroom, sofa bed in den. Suitable for children and infants.

You'll be tucked into the trees in a quiet neighborhood only 1/2 mile from the state park's hiking and biking trails, playground, wedding venue, 7 min from downtown, 15 min from SARC.

The space
We love sharing Monte Sano with travelers who want to "live like locals" and avoid touristy hotels. With detailed decorating and gas fireplace, we've provided all you need to feel like you're at home. Your space is very private with a separate entrance that looks out onto a wooded lot with plenty of parking space in the circular drive. The safe, friendly neighborhood and nearby state park are perfect for walkers, runners, strollers, and cyclists.

We provide coffee and there's a picnic area and large yard on the property for your enjoyment. Wifi is included and the TV has a digital antenna and streaming services.

Also available for short-term rental are one other free standing apartment on the property and a three bedroom house. The house sleeps 7 and the smaller apartment sleeps 3 (2 in bedroom and 1 on futon.) Book early for large groups of 14 in all three rentals on same property. Great "togetherness" for wedding groups, family reunions, large groups of traveling friends.

Guest access
Guests have entire large apartment with its own private entrance. There's a picnic area on the property and a large yard where kids can play. Adults can relax in the outdoor furniture and enjoy morning coffee or nighttime serenading by our frog and cricket choir.

Other things to note
In these times of national health uncertainty, we want you to know that the safety of our guests is our top priority. We are taking extra precautions, such as increased frequency of cleaning and cleaning with bleach products, especially doorknobs, handles, light switches, remotes, and all kitchen and bathroom surfaces. We believe the private accommodations of AirBnB offer a safer environment, if you need to travel, than a hotel. Let us know if you have any questions about our cleaning practices.

Monte Sano's 1600 foot elevation offers a great way to enjoy fall foliage while staying close to downtown restaurants, bars, breweries, shopping and parks. The drive up to our property is beautiful, peaceful, and easy. Temperatures are cooler in summer and we're most likely to get snow dustings in the winter.

Ours is a quiet residential neighborhood, perfect for walking and running, with only a 7 minute drive to downtown and about 15 minutes to the Space and Rocket Center and Redstone Arsenal. This apartment is the perfect base for vacationing or working.

Former high school teacher, speaker, and author of Last Bus Out, the true story of Courtney Miles, a boy who stole a bus and drove over 300 people out of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and This is Not a Drill (Penguin, 2012) about two high schoolers who are tutoring first graders when a dad, home from Iraq with PTSD, pulls a gun in the classroom and holds the students hostage. I love to travel, read, write, and spend time with family. Airbnb has been a great way to meet people and “live like a local.” Airbnb folks are generous, open-minded, adventurous, and friendly. It’s the only way to travel!
