Located 15 miles South of Kealakekua Bay, this tropical getaway is for the adventuresome traveler, not city folks. There is a half mile road to the secluded home, with a million dollar panoramic ocean/coastline view! It requires a wheel drive.
This is my daughter's house and it is so special and private. The view is mesmerizing ! It's so quiet! If you want serenity and relaxation, you will love this place.
The master bedroom has a beautiful ocean view and a comfy queen size bed.
The second bedroom has a queen size futon on the floor with a 4 inch memory foam topper.
The house is situated on 2.8 acres.
There are papaya trees, pineapples, and a huge mango tree. Right now the mangoes are falling on the ground!
A four-wheel-drive is required and mandatory… A regular car will not make it down the steep road. Which is why this rental is under $100 a night. To rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle is more costly than a normal car, so I have taken this into consideration. Otherwise a place like this would be over $150 per night.
Interaction with Guests
I just want to be sure that this house is for you. It is not for everyone because it is "off the grid". There can be challenges with the generator and the solar system, if you are not used to dealing with these things.
A 4 WHEEL DRIVE vehicle is mandatory! an SUV with ALL WHEEL DRIVE is not acceptable! The road requires a LOW GEAR TO GO UP AND DOWN. It will not tolerate a regular car and you won't be able to get up the hill and it is too far to walk.
If these inconveniences are acceptable to you I will accept your reservation. The low price reflects a discount for having to deal with these things. But it well worth it! The view is spectacular and it is private and romantic.
If you not from the US, keep in mind that I will not be able to return phone calls to an international phone number. Print and bring the driving directions with you. Do not rely on a strong wifi signal from the highway.
This is the country of South Kona….lots of fruit and flowers! Hookena Beach Park is just 7 miles away and Kealakekua about 15 miles. Rent kayaks there and watch the dolphins!
There is a County Bus on the highway, one mile up the road. You MUST rent a four wheel drive for this road, it is required.
Other Things to Note
FOUR NIGHT MINIMUM PLEASE.
Neighbors are friendly, as long as you don't spin out on the road and mess it up, because we share the road. Roxanne takes care of the orchard below this property and you might meet her…she usually has a bag full of papayas!
This house is off the grid with solar power.
Please don't book this house if you are a city lover because you won't enjoy this simple country quiet life. The views are amazing; the stars at night are more than you've ever seen in your life!
If you're going to eat out at a restaurant, stop in Kealakekua or Capt. Cook before you get to the house. The closest grocery door is Captain Cook or Oceanview, both towns are 15 miles away.
There are papayas, mangoes, and pineapples a good deal of the time. There is a table top barbecue on the deck.
Cozy, cute and comfortable. This location is one-of-a-kind, but don't come if you don't like geckos.
IF YOU DO NOT RENT A FOUR-WHEEL-DRIVE OR YOU DO NOT USE IT PROPERLY. by engaging a low gear.....there will be a $200 charge to repair the road.
Some things to know about the Solar System...
It is only for lights and phones,iPads and laptops. If you have a smart phone you can have your data service wifi. Please conserve.
To use an big appliance, turn on the generator. It is easy to start, just turn the key.
Do not try to use a hair dryer, hair flat iron, blender, washing machine or clothes iron on the solar!
Some things to know about the Water System...
Rain water catchment is common in Hawaii. We love the rain because it fills up the tank!
Please conserve water.
The water pump is powered by solar.
There should be enough gas in the container for your stay. If you run out, please refill at your own expense.
Turn on the generator, before operating the washer.
Stove & Fridge Run on Propane
There is an extra propane tank if you run out. Instructions to light the fridge are at the botton inside the refrigerator.
Please wash your dishes, sweep the floor and strip the beds (leave sheets in pile on the floor)
REMOVE YOUR TRASH
Make sure windows and doors are closed
Put key under rock, to the left of the front steps.
The locations was beautiful! You definitely need the jeep for the road, but we had one, so it was no problem. Sunsets off of the back deck are beautiful! It's definitely a house for an adventurous couple. This worked fine for us. There's not much, if any hot water, so plan for cool showers. There's a small propane BBQ , and a stove for cooking, which was great! We had a little trouble getting the propane to light to start the refrigerator, but Debbie gave great instructions over the phone, and it worked fine the entire trip. We got a whole day of rain, which caused the solar power to fail on our last day. We couldn't get the water to turn on. Debbie was again able to help us over the phone to get the generator started so we could wash dishes and shower quickly before we left for the airport. Overall, a fun, very private, adventurous, and beautiful experience!
Hi Ashley, I didn't notice in all of our communications that there was no hot water. Did I miss something? Since you had to change the propane tanks, it might have needed relighting, too. I did call my handyman just now so he can go fix it before the next arrival. It should have worked for you. Thanks again for being such a good communicator, so that I could walk you through the protocol for off grid! Mahalo!
This house was great and we really enjoyed our stay! It may not be for everyone because of the remote location and the host is not exagerating about the road. A 4WD is definitely needed. It was not difficult to drive down the driveway as long as you have the right vehicle. For us, it was worth it because the house has an uninterupted view of the ocean, rural setting, and is very peaceful. The house was clean, beds comfortable, and generally as shown and described in the ad. You better know how to change a propane tank gas line and be able to deal with fluctuating water temperature; but if you are handy and not too particular this house is a great stay and worth the effort! We had excellent cell coverage at the house also. Debbie, the host was fantastic and immediately answered all my questions by text. She was very responsive and helpful.
A Beautiful place, words can't describe how perfect it was. Amazing views of the ocean with whales leaping and birds serenading us from the trees. Sunsets were gorgeous, and we had everything we needed. If you stay anywhere in Hawaii let it be here
If you're looking for a secluded and hidden place to stay at,then this is definetely the location you'll need.Spectacular views of the sunset.
We had a lovely stay here. A 4wd is definitely a must which makes it all the more exciting. The view is absolutely gorgeous and the pictures just don't do the place justice. Debbie was easy to communicate with before arrival and gave good directions. We had issues with the water while we were there and Debbie was quick to respond and to try and fix the problem. Definitely want to stay here again!
This place is awesome. It definitely needs a 4WD, but with this you will discover a place in midst of pure Hawaii nature with the open sea lying to your feet. The house holds everything you need for a your stay (all cooking stuff, bathroom, water, power and so on). Having breakfast on the porch is just breathtaking.
Thanks for having us at your place!

I own a vacation rental business with my daughter in Puako, Hawaii….so having a B and B in my home is a "natural". David and I have eleven grown children and ten beautiful grandchildren….but we are very young at heart and healthy. We love to dance, swim, kayak, bike, hike and anything fun. Our motto: Work like you don't need the money, Dance like no one is watching and Love like you have never been hurt before!
