The space
This is an Airbnb for the discerning traveler. Many liken a visit to Ingleside to staying at a boutique hotel! Nearly all of our overnight guests leave saying they wish they could have spent more time here in the area. So if you can fit it into your schedule, plan a two night visit (at least) to explore all the goodness the Village has to offer!

Do you appreciate attention to detail and desire a space that is both lovely and functional? We pride ourselves on providing our guests with a wonderful Airbnb experience and a good dose of southern hospitality. This 2nd floor room is in the heart of our home, and as such, we always meet our guests upon arrival and are around for the duration of their stay. During the cooler months we typically sleep "Irish style" - low heat overnight and lots of cozy bedding. If you desire self check-in, more privacy, or plan to come and go past our 11 o'clock "curfew" (our alarm system automatically arms from 11pm-6am, and we require guests to be in during those hours), our basement apartment (The Cottage at Ingleside) would be a perfect fit for you. Outside of your room, guests are welcome in the keeping room where the wifi is strong. You may also relax in our outdoor spaces on nice days; including the wrap around veranda and currently-in-progress backyard where our chickens live. There is no kitchen access.

As the weather and our schedule allows, we often host our popular "Drinking With Chickens"! Really, it's just a guest social time out back while we watch the chickens free range before bed, and enjoy a friendly chat with a beverage of choice. We hold them a couple times a week, typically, and hope you can join us for one!

No smokers, please.

To start your day, we recommend one of the best breakfast spots in Roanoke (Scratch Biscuit) which just happens to be a block from our front porch.

Guest access
Just outside your room in the upstairs foyer there is a hospitality station that houses a Keurig machine, assorted K-cups, and variety of snacks.

Other things to note
We are both self-employed, and try to arrange our schedules so that we can be available to our guests. To make this possible, pre-communication of your plans while staying with us is very helpful.

Ingleside is a shoe-free home, so guests are kindly asked to remove their footwear at the door.

In consideration of our other guests, this is a property exclusively for non-smokers.

Wifi is spotty in our guest room and outside on the veranda. If you need a strong signal, you are welcome to work downstairs in the keeping room, which is closer to the modem/hub. There is also a coffee shop nearby with peaceful working conditions and fast wifi connectivity should you so desire.

We are located on a convenient, easy-to-find main road. If you are a very light sleeper/not accustomed to city life, we suggest you bring ear plugs to ensure the occasional motor cycle or fire truck doesn't wake you.

As with most 100-year-old homes, ours has lots of quirks and character - but with the added convenience of updated systems. If you love the charm that an old house exudes, we're the place for you!

Location

Roanoke, Virginia, United States

Our home is on the edge of Historic Grandin Village. Within easy walking distance of Black Dog Salvage (of the TV show Salvage Dogs), and in the other direction, the heart of the village which includes a coffee shop, cooperative grocery store, farmer's market (outdoors April-November, indoors the 3rd Saturday of the month through the winter), movie theater, old-fashioned soda shop, and a dozen amazing restaurants. Two of which you can see (and smell) from our front door! The Roanoke Greenway entrance is just a couple minutes walk, and comprises a beautiful trail system meandering along the Roanoke River. The City Market (and the rest of Downtown Roanoke) is a mere two miles down the road and boasts museums, breweries, the Amtrak station, and a wide assortment of international restaurants. There is a local bus stop located at the end of our block.

We are convenient to events held at the Berglund Center, Jefferson Center, Hotel Roanoke, any of the local universities, downtown, Salem, and the town of Vinton. Most all are within 15 minutes of our home.

A young-ish couple who loves traveling, spending time with friends, gardening, food, wine, and hospitality. We live with our pup Caroline, four laying hens, and share our 1920s home with wonderful Airbnb-ers from around the world!
During your stay
As hosts, we interact as much or as little as you desire. We also have a very friendly Bichon Frise, Caroline, who does not shed and is generally well-tolerated by people with allergies.
