Other Things to Note

No daily breakfast, sorry.
The rest of the premises are not available to guests unless pre-arranged.
I've stayed at Miki's so many times now, it's become like a second home... quiet, convenient and comfortable. She's added new drapes, so the room is incredibly dark at night, making for easier sleeping.
This was a pleasant stay, with only a few sticking points. The neighborhood is relatively quiet (Caltrain notwithstanding), the studio is beautifully decorated , the shower awesome, and I had no issue with parking during my stay. Miki was friendly and responsive, and willing to accommodate a last-minute change of plans (friend flew up early as a surprise and so I had an additional guest for one night).
The downside of the studio would be the bed and temperature control. The bed is older, and when I arrived, the fabric covering the base of the box spring was sagging down and touching the floor. It's still sleep-able, but squeaky and doesn't offer much support. I was bone-tired and didn't toss and turn the first night, but the second night it became noticeable. Your mileage may vary.
The other issue would be the temperature control. There is air conditioning in the studio, however, it's the same A/C as the main house, so guests have no direct control. The other "A/C" in the room is a rotating tower fan (there did appear to be a nice space heater for winter, though). Miki said I could text if I needed to have it cooler, but I didn't feel comfortable doing so at 1:30 a.m. as I made it back to the studio. It was one of the hottest days of the year, so this may not be an issue for most stays, but if you are a temperature-sensitive sleeper, it is something to keep in mind.
All in all-a nice experience and location, one I would suggest to my friends visiting the area.
I am sorry you did not have a comfortable stay.
it definitely was the hottest weekend ever in Palo Alto.
And my place is advertised for 1 person only. The bed is NOT old and only a full size and not for 2 people. I am sure squeezing 2 people on it contributed to the discomfort and the heat as well.
What you see under the bed is the cover that I bought for the box spring that happens to be too big for it and therefore the extra material is sagging down. I will tape that, thanks for the note.
My place is NOT advertised as a "detached" studio. And I don't know how the photos would be suggesting that ?! I will add more photos or edit my description so that it is more clear.
Unfortunately the A/C control is in the main house and has not been an issue so far, that is why I provide an A/C tower for the room. Again I am sorry you did not feel at ease to let me know of your discomfort while you were my guest.
Host was welcoming. Quickly answered all questions about location, directions, etc.
Lyn, Thanks for your review.
Just to clarify, the studio is not advertised as bigger than it is and the photos are regular photos. The exterior photo is so that people recognize the house once they get here and also showing the pathway to the studio. I will measure the studio and provide square footage soon.
The house is 10 min walking to Caltrain, 10 min to Midtown Palo Alto, 12 min to California ave shopping and dining, and 40 min to Stanford and Downtown.
At the rate it is renting, with NO cleaning fee, I think a free bike would not be very reasonable. However, I do have a bike that my guests can use, if they asked, as they have done so before. Sorry you never asked me for a bike otherwise I would have lent it to you.
I got a nice note form Miki when i booked and another a couple of days before the stay, detailing how to pick up the key.
The Unit is round the side of the house and the house is in a great, quiet neighborhood in Palo Alto.
The unit is as described with the minor exception that the single hotplate was missing but in it's place was a coffee machine.
Seeing as how there was nothing that you could use to cook something on that hotplate I think the switch is a good one. I made use of the Microwave and fridge quite a lot in my 3 night stay.
The bed is pretty comfortable, but the highlight for me was the shower. It was one of the best pressure showers I've had for a long time. Great.
If you had the window open you could hear the distant sound of the Caltrains but they never disturbed me or woke me. (I'm a light sleeper) the curtains are fairly sheer though so if you have light sensitivity at night you might do well to bring an eye mask.
Thank you Alan. I am actually in the process of changing the drapes by next week.
I ordered lined thicker drapes.
I took the hotplate away because nobody was using it, and the one time a guest used it, it burned and made a mess and a very bad lingering smell for couple of weeks.
Great experience. Miki was very responsive to my questions. Would stay again. Water pressure was amazing!
My stay was wonderful! Miki was welcoming and I knew I could contact her with any questions. The place was nice and comfortable - like the photos! The neighborhood is quiet and not to far from town. So glad I stayed here!
Delightful and peaceful. Miki was a wonderful communicator about instructions. I would highly recommend. The place is clean, bright, and lovely.
