******** Our Coffee ********
One of the benefits of staying with us is enjoying our featured truly atresanal old world coffee. Our coffee fruit is sun dried. They are not sent to a mill to be striped, washed and dried and then sent to a plant for processing as is all commercial coffee fruit and beans. We pay our pickers double to harvest only the reddest coffee fruit at the peak of ripeness. Then our coffee beans remains in the dried fruit until roasting. This triples harvesting costs but as we sell comparatively little roasted coffee (100 kilos a year as we do it as a hobby), you get a rare treat that coffee lovers treasure - coffee harvested and dried in an antique style unavailable to the mass market. That is why our product is truly artesenal.
Along with the purchase of 4 bags or more (great for gifts) you receive an autographed copy of Phil Baker's Costa Rica Now / Travel Live and Own in Paradise. A Costa Rica cult classic (only 200 author copies left - will not be reprinted). 500 pages - a $25 value.

My boyfriend and I had perfect stay at Phil's coffee plantation. Phil is a warm, fun and inviting host and makes you feel as an honored guest. The accommodation is exactly what myself and my boyfriend were seeking; clean, unique and in an idyllic setting. The plantation is even more beautiful in person. We had the opportunity to take back a few bags of Phil's artisanal coffee...perfect souvenir!
Phil was such an amazing host. He quite literally opened up his home to us and made us feel welcome. The place is difficult to find (there is no signage) but it's well worth the trouble. The grounds are beautiful and the coffee is delicious. We highly recommend the ranch and hope to visit again. :)
Thanks Taylor - It's really no more difficult than any other place in Costa Rica besides a sterile hotel next to the airport. Taylor rented a GPS and they don't work that well here and we do not recommend them. If you have WiFi and do as we recommend - rent a WiFi stick at the car rental agency and use Ways or Google Maps you come right to our door. We also provide exact written direction. Reading other reviews and you will see the majority of guests find us easily. Pura Vida Taylor come back soon!
Phil let us in when we arrived and invited us for a cup of coffee. He helped us to gey some dinnner at the lokal soda just a short taxi ride away and also gave us access to his coffee plantation. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for. If you are lucky you might even se hummingbirds in the garden! Breakfast was okay and Phil helped us on our way to Poás which is difficult without a car but we managed. We would stay there again.
Phil was an amazing host! He continuously went out of his way to make sure my cousin and I were comfortable and safe. His ranch was gorgeous, the land is so green and refreshing. The studio house we stayed in was literally perfection. The people of the neighborhood were also very nice. Never met one mean Costa Rican. Also the ranch is very close to San de Isidiro Central, which is walking distance and filled with bakeries and small eateries. Point blank stay here, I enjoyed my stay and wish my cousin and I didn't have to leave so soon. Thank you Phil for everything.
You're most welcome and thanks for the kingly review. Safety and helping our guests get the most out of their visit is goal One. So satisfied you loved the studio and grounds, and you enjoyed San Isidro centro - it is so convenient to have all those services so close by. Pura Vida Asha!
Such a great place to stay as we wrapped up our trip. We wish we could have stayed at least one more night. Phil was so nice and made us feel right at home. We made sure to get some delicious coffee to take home. The trip to the airport was about 30min which made it very convenient for us. We hope to come back soon.
Sad to see you guys go - I know your family and friends will be happy with all the coffee you bought as gifts - unless that is if you don't drink it all at your new coffee bar!!!! LOL Really enjoyed your stay and hope to meet up with you guys again at some point - a big Pura Vida indeed...
Phil lives in a beautiful neighborhood overlooking the city of San Jose in the distance. We were driving our own vehicle, and unfortunately got quite lost when we were about five miles away from the B and B. My wife and I stopped at a local grocer, and the very friendly owner tried his best to explain how to get to our destination. Predictably, there was a language barrier. We were able to raise Phil on his phone, and he acted as a liaison between the local Tico and myself. After a few minutes of back and forth, we were able get a clear understanding of where we needed to go. A few more phone conversation with Phil en route enabled us to successfully navigate our way to our waiting cabina. Phil had the coffee ready for us as an afternoon refreshment, and he made an excellent French toast for us the following morning. We enjoyed our brief stay at Phil's (once we were able to find it!)
Hi Jan - Glad you thought our place was beautiful and you liked the French toast. Ninety percent of out guest have no problem getting here. If you speak little Spanish, Costa Rica becomes a directional challenge especially if you don't have or know how to use a GPS, Google maps or the app Ways. As I said over the phone, getting lost becomes a most memorable adventure, which your review proved as true! Costa Rica is always an adventure in some way! That's what makes it so popular - Pura Vida
Our stay at the coffee ranch was fantastic. We stayed here our first and last night in Costa Rica. The grounds and gardens are absolutely beautiful. Phil was very friendly and accommodating. He even gave us great advice that drastically improved our trip. The coffee and breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed talking with Phil in the mornings. The rooms were very clean and well taken care of. Phil even upgraded us to the guest house on our second night and it was great. Most importantly, the cat, Gizmo, is amazing as are the 3 dogs.

Hi / Hola! I am a native Californian (San Diego) living in Costa Rica with my daughter. My life vocation is real estate (since 1978). Along with our family home on the lagoon in Cardiff by the Sea, we own 100 acres of vineyard property in Temecula and now a small coffee plantation in Costa Rica. I have been in and out of Costa Rica for many years and have property in Manuel Antonio. I am also a professional Costa Rica Consultant. Taoist and Buddhist kung fu and meditation are part of my self definition along with being a father which is job One. Having me host you is like having a personal Costa Rican consultant. Pura Vida!
**** Contact me before you plan your trip and after you book your stay with us and I will steer you to great places to visit according to you length of stay in Costa Rica and what you would like to do here; surf, zip line, deserted beaches, white sand full service beaches, bird watching, hot springs, witnessing volcanoes and waterfalls and gem destinations off the beaten track,
Finally, I do not host people for the money. I host for the experience of meeting new people. You will find me engaging if you want to talk, or accommodating if you want to have your privacy. I think relationships are the most important and my guests make or break my experience with Airbnb.
