Have it all--beach, jungle, and village with a comfortable and secure 1 bedroom apartment. King or twin bed arrangement for 2 persons. Private outdoor shower, open-air kitchen. Tropical gardens and lush jungle. 8 minute walk to beach, half that to the village of Playa Chiquita.
Built in 2005 by one of the area's most legendary builders, the two story home features a self-contained downstair's apartment. Fully separate from the owner's habitat upstairs, sharing common views of gardens, but not of each other.
The home features many artistic touches from the broad use of mosaic, bamboo and reclaimed lumber furnishings, as well as memorabilia of the Puerto Viejo fishing history. A hand carved boat hangs in the living area, a relic of day's past, and the beloved piece of "first time" by the owner's friend, Captain Pino.
The downstair's apartment is fully equipped with bed, bath, kitchen, dining and seating areas. There is a jacuzzi hot-tub in the garden area, available at additional cost and advance notice to prepare. There is also on-sight laundry services available at a nominal charge. Bikes can be rented nearby. Guests of the house receive a discount on tours booked with Wahoo Fishing & Tours.
Interaction with Guests
We live in the top floor of the two story home. We are available to you at your request, though we are often away from the property during the day running our fishing, dolphin, snorkeling boat or attending to our bar/restaurant in Puerto Viejo.
Located in the diverse community of Playa Chiquita, this home is walking distance to excellent dining, watering holes, and a chocolate lounge. Whether it's sunning, snorkeling, horse-back riding, or just relaxing in the hammock, you're never more than a five minute walk to a multitude of activities... or to none and no-one at all.
The public bus passes every hour daily from Puerto Viejo to Manzanillo/reverse. Bicycles are available for rent nearby.
Be a decent human. Love my dog. Worship my cat. We'll be fine.
We loved it at Anglers Lair and never wanted to leave. Minutes to the beautiful secluded beach, surrounded by nature, a great open air apartment and fabulous host.... This is everything you could wish for and more when travelling to Puerto Viejo.
We've had a wonderful stay at Janet's place. They were very helpful and really great people.
The apartment is beautiful and you can spot plenty animals from your hammock:)
Puerto Viejo is a great spot in Costa Rica, a really easy vibe where you can cruise along the beach with your bike.
We had a great time! The house is spacious, clean and lies in the middle of the beautiful garden. It's even more beautiful than the pictures suggest and we definitely recommend to go to this place. The bed is really king size and a good night sleep is guaranteed. It must be said that Janet and Nick get up early in the morning and it's a bit noisy at that time (because they live on the first floor). But if you don't mind getting up early, it's not a problem.
Janet and Nick are great hosts and give us very good advice about beaches (5 minutes walk through a trail with sloths!), restaurants, supermarket and surf lessons.
We spent some days in Janet's beautiful house and it was just amazing!
The house was very clean and the details of decoration were just unique. The bathroom is spectacular with its wooden washing table and the cute little mosaics everywhere. The outdoor shower has warm water and makes you feel part of the nature.
The open kitchen is well equiped , so you can prepare easyly your own food at home.
Janet and nick,Americans, are great hosts, the live in the upper part of the house. They were very helpful and gentle.
The beach of Chiquita , for me one of the nicest in the area of puerto viejo, it's just a 3 min foot walk away. There is a grocery and several restaurants nearby in easy walk distance.
We would defenetly recommend this accommodation and hope to come back!
We spent in this great apartment three fabulous nights: it was big, quiet and surrounded by nature. We could relax and Janet and Nick were really nice and helpful. I would definitely suggest it to everyone!
Janet and Nick were wonderful hosts! They helped us with loads of local info so we could get the most out of our stay. The open-air living room and kitchen provided the best combo of comfort and jungle living, where we could relax and listen to the sounds of the area. Playa Chiquita beach, several great restaurants and a local market are all a short walk away. We rented bikes to take trips to both Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva Beach, both close enough to reach easily on bikes. Thanks so much Janet and Nick for letting us check-out for a couple of days - it was so needed and we couldn't think of a better place to do it!
I don't think our trip would have been anywhere near the experience we had were it not for our hosts. Janet took us in as her own and helped us navigate the small town of puerto viejo with the kind of knowledge only a local has. She and her husband made us feel so at home and they even advocated for us when some tours we planned didn't work out like we imagined. They are gracious people and so warm. We are thankful to have had the chance to meet them, this being my sons first trip anywhere I am so glad to say they were a part of his memories! Thanks a ton and we cannot wait to get back!!
