Come nourish your spirit at Inspiration House! Located in a quiet neighborhood just blocks from town, you're walking distance to everything Oberlin.

Inspiration House features three comfortable bedrooms, a luxurious clawfoot tub, sprawling parlors, a well-stocked kitchen… and ghosts!

Featured in Vogue and Business Insider, Inspiration House is home to a uniquely cozy haunting. Michelle Belanger (Portals to Hell, Paranormal State) confirms it: these ghosts, mostly past residents, are friendly.

The space
Built in the 1870s, Inspiration House was bought in 2018 by Michelle Belanger, a paranormal researcher featured on shows like Paranormal State and Portals to Hell, and author of over 30 books (fiction and non-fiction). Michelle confirms that the ghostly residents of Inspiration House are friendly.

When there's not a pandemic on, Michelle regularly offers public classes at Inspiration House on personal psychic development, empowering attendees to understand and learn to harness their perceptions. Private classes and small-group experiences will also available to Airbnb guests starting in 2021 -- ask about this option when you book to see if Michelle will be available during your stay.

Inspiration House is actually run by a small non-profit that Michelle and Elyria started. Whether or not you visit to investigate the haunting, our mission is to provide a space that renews and inspires you, our guests. Over the past few years, we've created a restful space focused on connection with self, family, and friends. There are no TVs onsite, but there are plenty of ways for you to connect with the people you travel with, from board games to spirit communication prompts, to practice decks of Psychic Aptitude Cards designed by Michelle.

We use Inspiration House as a personal creative retreat, and we love sharing our home away from home with travelers of all spiritual (and non-spiritual) paths. We’re excited to share Inspiration House with you!

Guest access
You'll have exclusive access to Inspiration House! We don't recommend spending much time in the basement - those low ceilings are a hazard even to short people! - but the house, yard, and garage are open for you to use and enjoy. The one space that we usually keep closed off for guests is our display room on the first floor -- many guests who aren't familiar with paranormal phenomena find it creepy, so we only open it up by request in advance. The contents are part museum and part training ground -- Michelle Belanger (of Paranormal State) designed the display room and uses it to help people refine and better understand their own psychic abilities from time to time.

We're currently working on fixing up several rooms on the second floor, behind the bathroom. Depending on the stage construction (or deconstruction) is at, we may or may not close those rooms off during your visit.

Other things to note
There are 1-2 tall steps to get into the house, which can be difficult to navigate especially if you have bad knees. We recently added a railing by the stairs from the driveway up to the kitchen entry, and we recommend using that entryway rather than the front door if you have trouble with stairs.

Our neighborhood is a quiet one, about 4 blocks from the center of charming Oberlin, Ohio. We're right across the street from a community park and rail trail that's great for walking, bicycling, and jogging. The local CVS and a fast food joint are just a block away, but we strongly recommend trying out some of Oberlin's downtown restaurants - they're delicious! Cleveland is just 25 minutes away.

I'm an artist with an adventurous streak that occasionally turns practical! I got into hosting with AirBnB almost ten years ago, and I absolutely love it. I've hosted in four states now, and met people from all over the world. My current listings are all in Oberlin, Ohio, and they're part of a wonderful project my partner and I call Inspiration House. The 1870s brick home is walking distance to downtown, and staying there feels like stepping into another era. Inspiration House is operated by a small non-profit, the Temple of Wisdom, to serve as retreat space for folks who need a screen-free getaway to reconnect with their creativity — or their traveling companions. It's also a place where my partner, Michelle Belanger, offers classes and workshops on personal development, energy work, spirit communication, and more. My life goal is to help create a more sustainable society, where people and the planet thrive and are enriched together. I love that AirBnB helps move us closer to that world, by using spaces more efficiently -- not to mention making traveling more affordable and more fun! I also love being outdoors, and I'm happy to share nearby adventure spots with you -- not to mention great nearby restaurants like the Black River Cafe, which is my favorite restaurant in the entire midwest! If you have any questions about Oberlin, the house, or the area before or during your stay, feel free to ask. I'll do my best to give you a hand! I look forward to meeting you at Inspiration House. Happy Trails! ~Elyria

During your stay
Elyria and Michelle are generally available between noon and 10 pm if you need anything! We like giving guests as much space as is comfortable, so often we won't see you at all, but if you have questions or would like a quick tour of the house when you show up, we can usually arrange to be there and meet you.

There's always a chance, especially if you're sensitive, that you might interact with our ghostly residents. Guests regularly report hearing footsteps, murmured voices, and music; several have seen full-bodied apparitions and it’s common for the music boxes in the home to play by themselves. Over its 150-year history, at least four people have died in Inspiration House (all of natural causes), and they appear reluctant to leave the home that they loved so deeply in life.

If you're interested in booking a longer tour, an experience or class with Michelle, or a multi-day retreat, please let us know! We're happy to share details of the sort of experiences we offer and see if any are a good fit for your group.
