Bodega Bay is beautiful all year. Come and check out the Sonoma Coast. Enjoy a stay in Bodega Bay at our coastal retreat. The days and evenings are cooler than in the inland areas. Sometimes it is windy, sometimes foggy! Dress in layers and be prepared for frequent weather changes. From the prevailing north west winds we enjoy clean air, great visibility, and wild flowers light up the hillsides in the Spring. When the weather is windy the air is fresh and cold, and the skies are dramatic. We still have fires in the fire place, and you can enjoy the local beaches and parks just walking distance from our house.
My husband and I live here with our wonderful cattle dog Mattie. Mattie is never left alone and goes with us during the day. She is great with other dogs and is very sociable. By nature she is a bit aloof and does not interact with our guests unless the guest initiates the interaction. Mattie gets along with visiting airbnb dogs very easily and we have never experienced any problems.
We have our reservations set so that guests can automatically book their (email hidden)is is a great feature and speeds the process up so you can be sure you get your accommodations when you want them. We really enjoy our airbnb guests and love sharing our favorite local spots. Guests stay in our downstairs Private Master Bedroom and private bath with ocean views from the bedroom. We have Directv and wireless internet. We are in a Restful and quiet neighborhood. Verizon cell phones work here. AT&T and other cell providers do not work here. In the morning we offer fresh coffee/decaff, juice, pastries, bagels, cereal, It is a self serve continental style breakfast. If you are having an extended stay, or just one night, and you would like full kitchen access, we offer full kitchen access for an additional $40 per day, paid to us after you check in.
Great for cyclists, as we are only two miles to the well known route over Coleman Valley Road to Occidental. We can recommend other great rides as well for all levels of biking, in West Marin, to Petaluma, and the back west county roads of Sebastopol.
It is a half mile walk to Portuguese Beach from our house. This puts you right in the middle of the Sonoma Coast State beaches. There are great hikes/walks in our area for varying levels of ability and comfort. There is the Pomo Trail, the Kortum Trail, Doran Park Beach, Bodega Headlands, and Willow Creek, just to name a few.
Easy drive to the Sonoma Wine Country, and only a few miles to the Russian River. If you like kayaking this is the right place for that sport as well. Kayak in the lower Russian River and paddle up to Duncans Mills and back. Or there is Tomales Bay, or the Estero.
We have a hot tub, backyard garden area, & great sunset viewing from the front deck.
We have a real wood burning fireplace and when weather conditions permit, we do build fires.
Good restaurants are close, The Tides, Inn at the Tides, Lucas Wharf, Rivers End, and the Sandpiper. In less than an hour you are in Sonoma Wine Country and great world class wine tasting. The picturesque drive to Healdsburg is to head north on Hwy One to River Road and then take Westside Rd or Eastside Rd in to Healdsburg. There are many many wineries to choose from, and very well known restaurants to enjoy.
The Master Bedroom we offer to guests on airbnb is very clean, newly carpeted, has a pillowtop queen size bed, closet, dresser with mirror, and a full length mirror. There is a six foot couch in the guest bedroom, and we have another six foot couch available in the living room if you have extra guests with you. For each couch it is $35 a night additional per person after the first two guests.
We encourage guests to enjoy their morning coffee on the back deck in our perennial flower and herb garden. Lots of hummingbirds are here and they are very entertaining along with hawks, finches, towhees, robins, and sparrows. Other wildlife in the neighborhood, deer, fox, racoon, skunks, possoms, bobcats, and frogs! And cows are nearby too! Sometimes at night you can hear the coyotes howling in the hills just behind us. And the Owls...It is all pretty cool!! And of course you hear the ocean!!
We are dog friendly to service dogs, house broken dogs, and non aggressive breeds. We ask for a $50 pet deposit when you arrive, by check. And if there are no problems we return the check to you when you leave. Our backyard is pretty dog proof, but we ask guests to clean up their dog's packages before leaving. We have dog bowls for water and food, and doggie treats and toys.
Our guests have access to the guest bedroom with a private bath of course. Living Room, Dining Room, Front Deck, Back Deck and Garden, and guests can heat up food in the microwave, make coffee or tea, and store food in the (website hidden) in the kitchen has an additional fee per day.
Our interaction with guests is based upon what our guests desire. We don't have to talk at all, or we can enjoy coffee together. Guests are welcome to be as private or social as they desire.
Our neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. Many guests comment on how beautiful it is to look up and see the stars at night, listen to the ocean from the house and feel the cool marine weather. There is abundant wildlife but guests need to be aware that there are mountain lions in the hills behind us, bobcats, and other predators around. When walking around outside at night best to stay in lighted areas close to the house together. Keep your dog close to you. It is a nice downhill walk to the beach that takes about 15 minutes and approximately 20 minutes uphill to come back to the house. Lots to enjoy here - especially watching the sunset on the front deck. And in the morning enjoying the early morning in the garden in the back yard.
There is no public transportation here at the coast. There is only one bus that makes a round trip each day from Point Arena to Santa Rosa and back again to Point Arena. This bus stops at The Tides on the north side of the main entrance.
After you reservation is confirmed I will send you an email to your personal address with information for your stay with us so please check your email.
We also supply toiletries in the guest bathroom including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razors, shaving cream, body lotion, and other assorted items.
We are in a drought - please conserve water. Shorten showers, reduce laundry and towel use, turn water off while shaving, brushing teeth and washing your hands. Thank you very much for being conservative with our water resources.
Ellen provided lots of helpful information and even shared her garden with us. The location was spectacular and the room comfortable.
Ellen's rental was great. About 1/2 mile from the ocean, we even had a small view of the ocean from our room. Beautiful garden in the back with hot tub. Next to a number of hiking trails along the sea cliffs and a few minutes drive from Bodega Bay.
Clean, very safe, comfortable enough, and a very reasonable price for this area. You are literally right on the coast. You can see some of the beach from one small window in bedroom. A good stay for those not needing lots of bells and whistles.
I do agree with the other guests who commented on missing the presence of host upon arrival. I felt a bit estranged not finding someone available in human person upon my initial arrival.
Lastly-details: bedroom was a bit cold and I could not find heater. The Bodega Spa and Lodge (nearby) is great and surprisingly reasonable for breakfast and nice mild walking and bike paths are easily accessible there. End of the day and evenings are cold and foggy so come prepared.
You couldn't ask for a better location in the Bodega Bay area than Ellen's. The view of the ocean was spectacular, and the proximity to everything was perfect. We never actually got to meet Ellen until the next morning, but she gives very detailed instructions on how to access the house and make yourself at home. (Protip to everyone visiting Ellen's: when she says "print these instructions", do it. Don't count on data access to your cell to get to them. We learned that lesson the hard way.) Her garden in back of the house is gorgeous, and our only regret is we didn't have time to avail ourselves of her hot tub.
First time using Airbnb -- overall positive experience. Ellen and Jeff are easy-going and very accommodating. The room is great - it has an attached bathroom, television, views to the water as well Ellen's backyard garden, and the price is great. The house is just a short drive from some nice restaurants, several beaches, as well as other outdoor activities. If you're looking for a place in this area, you should consider staying here.
Ellen and Jeff have a very beautiful house just about 1/2 mile away from the coast in Bodega Bay. Their house is outside of town, which makes it very quiet. Ellen and Jeff were amazing hosts and had everything prepared for us, and even the hot tub was heated up each night so there was no wait when you wanted to get in. One of my favorite parts about this house are the beautiful views that you get of the ocean from the front of the home, and of their botanical garden in the back. I also enjoyed the spacious, updated shower in our guest room.
Wow this was really greatest place to stay just outside of downtown with great access to the beach and running… It was perfect for the Formula One being just far enough away that the Cars didn't wake us up… And the host could not have been any nicer… One of the cleanest B&B as I've stayed at
I had a great time staying at Ellen's. Everything was very simple, clean and very well explained. I felt at home and really enjoyed my stay. I would gladly stay with her again!
We thought it was a nice home and we really enjoy ourself thank you so much
We were very pleased with our stay here. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood with a great view of an ocean cove from the front deck. The room and bath were very clean and comfortable and Ellen made us feel welcome in her home. She helped us with ideas of things to do in the area as well as recommendations for dinner. We enjoy tea and there was an impressive collection to choose from. We also appreciated the amazing garden out back. If we get back to this area we would definitely want to stay there again.
