The neighborhood is quiet and the hummingbirds are very entertaining!
The Coast & The Weather! In the summer, the days and evenings are cooler than in the inland areas. Sometimes it is windy, sometimes foggy! In the winter, it will be warmer here than the inland areas. Dress in layers and be prepared for frequent weather changes. From the prevailing north west winds enjoy clean air and great visibility. Wild flowers light up the hillsides in the Spring. When the weather is windy the air is fresh and cold, and the skies are dramatic. You can enjoy the local beaches and parks just walking distance from the house.

I really enjoy getting to know my airbnb guests and love sharing favorite local spots. There is wireless internet. This is a Restful and Quiet neighborhood. Verizon cell phones work here. I believe that Sprint works also. AT&T and T-Mobile and other cell providers do not work here.
Great for cyclists, only two miles to the well known route over Coleman Valley Road to Occidental. I can recommend other great rides as well for all levels of biking, in West Marin, to Petaluma, and the country roads of Sebastopol.
It is a half mile walk to Portuguese Beach from the house. This puts you right in the middle of the Sonoma Coast State beaches. There are great hikes/walks in the area for varying levels of ability and comfort. There is the Pomo Trail, the Kortum Trail, Doran Park Beach, Bodega Headlands, and Willow Creek, just to name a few.
Easy drive to the Sonoma Wine Country, and only a few miles to the Russian River. If you like kayaking this is the right place for that sport as well. You can rent kayaks in Jenner and in Bodega Bay. Kayak in the lower Russian River and paddle up to Duncans Mills and back, and there is Tomales Bay, and the Estero.
Great sunset viewing from the front deck.
Good restaurants are close, The Tides, Inn at the Tides, Lucas Wharf, Rivers End, The Sandpiper, Duck Club, and others. In less than an hour you are in Sonoma Wine Country and great world class wine tasting. The picturesque drive to Healdsburg is to head north on Hwy One to River Road and then take Westside Rd or Eastside Rd in to Healdsburg. There are many many wineries to choose from, and very well known restaurants to enjoy.
The Master Bedroom for guests is very clean, carpeted, has a pillowtop queen size bed, closet. and a full length mirror. Iron and ironing board, various toiletries.
Guests are welcome to enjoy their morning coffee on the back deck in the flower and herb garden. Lots of hummingbirds are here and they are very entertaining along with hawks, finches, towhees, robins, and sparrows. Other wildlife in the neighborhood; deer, fox, raccoon, skunks, possums, bobcats, and frogs! Sometimes at night you can hear the coyotes howling in the hills just behind the house. And the Owls...It is all pretty cool!! And of course you hear the ocean!!
I am dog friendly to service dogs, house broken dogs, and non aggressive breeds. I ask for a $50 pet deposit when you arrive, by check, or cash. And if there are no problems I return the pet deposit to you when you leave. Our backyard is pretty dog proof, but please clean up after your dog leaves a package.
Guests have access to the guest bedroom with a private bath. Living Room, Dining Room, Front Deck, Back Deck and Garden, and guests can heat up food in the microwave, make coffee, and store food in the refrigerator. No cooking in the kitchen as there are no pots and pans, minimal dishware and glassware provided for two people.
Interaction with Guests
Interaction with guests is based upon what the guest(s) desire. We don't have to talk at all, or we can enjoy coffee together, or something in between. Guests are welcome to be as private or as social as they desire.
The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. Many guests comment on how beautiful it is to look up and see the stars at night, listen to the ocean from the house and feel the cool marine weather. There is abundant wildlife but guests need to be aware that there are mountain lions in the hills behind us, bobcats, and other predators around. When walking around outside at night best to stay in lighted areas close to the house together. Keep your dog close to you. It is a nice downhill walk to the beach that takes about 10 minutes and approximately 20 minutes uphill to come back to the house. Lots to enjoy here - especially watching the sunset on the front deck. And in the morning enjoying the early morning in the garden in the back yard.
There is no public transportation here at the coast. There is only one bus that makes a round trip each day from Point Arena to Santa Rosa and back again to Point Arena. This bus stops at The Tides on the north side of the main entrance.
Other Things to Note
After your reservation is confirmed I will send you an email to your address, provided by airbnb, with information for your stay here. Please check your email.
We also supply toiletries in the guest bathroom including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razors, shaving cream, body lotion, and other assorted items.
We are in a drought - please conserve water. Shorten showers, reduce laundry and towel use, turn water off while shaving, brushing teeth and washing your hands. Thank you very much for being conservative with our water resources.
No smoking inside or near the house. I welcome service dogs, house broken dogs, and non aggressive dogs. Pet deposit is $50. No parties please. The Living room has a wood burning fireplace, I do make fires depending weather and drought conditions. Guests can hang out in the living room, dining room, kitchen, decks and garden. Guests can store food in the refrigerator or on the kitchen counters. Lots of parking in the driveway. Bathing suit required for the hot tub. We are in a severe drought. Please CONSERVE WATER. Do not run water when washing your hands, brushing your teeth, or shaving. Every drop saved counts as the water comes from springs that are replenished by winter rains. Thank you!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay here. The house is in a quiet residential area, with a beautiful ocean view from the front porch. It was very convenient to have a kitchen and dining area to enjoy breakfast in the morning. Everything was clean and well organized. I would recommend staying here while enjoying all that beautiful Bodega Bay has to offer.
We have enjoyed intensely nine wonderful days and nine starry night at Ellen's place in Bodega Bay. It is a blessed place, a piece o heaven on earth. The house is lovely, the front deck has a magnificent to the ocean and the backyard is a mini-botanical garden. We have explored up to the giants Redwoods, 200 miles north, coming back on the spectacular Shoreline Highway. We had two days in San Francisco and Santa Cruz, driving on the shore road, which has spectacular scenic views of the ocean, and also portions passing through eucalyptus tree woods. We had the privilege to saw many wheels heading the north. I was especially enchanted by the large range of smells around, from cedars, eucalyptus, rosemary, other known and unknown wild flowers, shrubs, bushes and aromatic herbs. We have admired the delicate orange poppies... We have met mule deer, pelicans, humming birds, golfers, hawks, eagles, albatrosses, sea lions, seals... an incredible diversity! it is an amazing region and I would love to come here again. Ellen's house is such a lovely place, very clean, we felt extremely comfortable and the "babies" fish in the aquarium were a very nice company to us (good replacement for our beloved old cat). The Portuguese Beach is only minutes away from the house, just a short walk. A lovely place to have the breakfast or a delicious brunch is Cafe Aquatica in Jenner. No words may express sufficiently our pleasure and satisfaction for the time we had here.
Location! Location! Location!
What more can we say? The house was clean, simply decorated and very roomy! The best seat in the house was the front deck which offered a perfect view of the sunset! (The ocean view from the bedroom window wasn't bad either!) We actually were looking forward to meeting Ellen, but she wasn't there during our 1-night stay. I loved her beautiful original photograph prints throughout the house and her lovely garden with interesting plants in the backyard. For those traveling mid-week, just take note that some restaurants close as early as 7:30 and others may even be closed. We ate at La Bodegita (Mexican). Excellent!!! Everything was homemade and delicious! Enjoy your stay at Ellen's in Bodega Bay!
Ellen greated us outside when we arrived. The house was incredibly easy to get to and it's a prime location at Bodega Bay. Ellen was warm and welcoming and was especially kind to our 3 year old daughter. She let her feed the fish and sent her home with some Beach treasures. Her accommodations are very clean and I would recommend her listing to anyone interested in planning a visit to Bodega Bay.
We enjoyed our stay at this fabulous house. The room was spacious, clean and cozy. The beach wasn't far away and there are a lot of restaurants and activities to do in town. I can recommend this place to stay.
Ellen greeted us upon arrival, had a lovely room ready for us, described the perfect bike ride and provided us with snacks (fruit and nuts). The hummingbirds provided us with entertainment by zipping by the flowering plants near the front deck. This is a quiet neighborhood and just a quick walk to the beach.

I love the great outdoors. Cycling, hiking, camping, kayaking, snorkeling, and photography are some of my favorite sports and activities. Bodega Bay has beautiful ocean views, & Sonoma County has great parks, great wine and micro-breweries. Sonoma County offers year round farmers markets and great restaurants for all budgets and tastes. The coast, the redwoods, oaks, cycling paths, pedestrian trails, there is a lot to explore and enjoy here. I am an avid fan of world music and dance, am a professional percussionist, teacher, and belly dancer. It is great fun meeting new friends through airbnb, and I appreciate living at the coast everyday!! I enjoy introducing guests to favorite hikes and parks in this area, and turning guests and friends on to the beauty and bounty of Sonoma County.
