The pool is just outside your door and the social area is adjacent. The grounds are at your disposal while staying in the condo. The second oldest church in the western hemisphere, built in 1524, is here! Swimming, snorkeling, boating, fishing, sunning, hiking are all at your fingertips. We will assist you in arranging for a fishing expedition or a circumnavigation of the island, the backside of which is a pelican preserve and a haven for all sorts of wildlife (porpoises, whales, egrets, pelicans, iguanas, to name a few...).

Interaction with guests

We are on site January through the beginning of April and available for your needs. And we speak enough Spanish to serve as translators!

Irene and Dan were outstanding hosts. From the very beginning, the communication was excellent. They were welcoming, friendly, and truly went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. Isla Taboga is a quiet little island where we could truly escape for a few days. Our flight into PTY landed only an hour before the last ferry to the island, but by some miracle, we made it! Irene had offered to arrange for their favorite driver to meet us at the airport and he got us to the ferry with minutes to spare! Dan was waiting for us when the ferry docked and we took one of the few vehicles on the island to their place, which is at the end of the low road. We got settled and then enjoyed a beverage with Irene & Dan. We mentioned we were hoping to go fishing or take a boat tour around the islands and Irene was on it! She arranged for a friendly local man to meet us first thing in the morning and we spent a few hours on his boat. We didn't catch any fish but did see two dolphins! There are only a few restaurants and small market/grocery on the island, but the food was good and we found everything we needed. We enjoyed the beach and the pool in the complex. There was even a sweet dog who greeted us each day! On our last day, we hiked to the highest point on the island to watch the sunrise. It was a moderately difficult hike in the humid heat, but the views were worth it! We highly recommend a visit to Taboga and/or a stay with Irene & Dan! It was the perfect quiet getaway that still afforded plenty of adventure and exploring!

This is island living at its best! - lush, simple, quiet and peaceful. We were surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful flora and fauna and gorgeous picturesque hummingbirds and butterflies (and iguanas if that is your thing ;-)). You are disconnected from the hustle and bustle of the city and able to simply be... enjoy, relax, wade in the pool, trek down to the beach or be adventurous and hike around the island, and sample the delicious local fare (especially Playa Honda restaurant). It was the perfect stay for a relaxing and rejuvenating weekend away! Irene and Dan are the best! Kind, watm and super helpful with recommendations/tips about the island and even our stay in the City!

We had read nice reviews of both Tobago Island and the condo that Irene and Dan were renting. Our expectations were high even though we were not sure what to expect. Irene had suggested to bring some groceries since the Island's convenience stores only had the basics which made us question ourselves on how basic the Island must be. We did bring our bag of groceries and we were happy to have followed her recommendation. However our apprehension was quickly set aside as we drove through the small fisherman's village and arrived at a cluster of 7 small townhouses surrounding a garden of flower bushes and a pool with the purest of waters. The condo/small 2 story townhouse had beautifully stained wooden ceilings and top floor. It was a wow moment for us. The small village and Island beaches provided for nice exploratory walks in late afternoon between our swimming sessions in the pool to keep cool in the consistently sunny days that Panama has to offer. What we will remember the most of this stay is the warm welcome and friendship that Irene, Dan and all the expats and Islanders that we met during our stay. My wife Chantal will also remember the friendly geekos that are busy keeping the bugs at bay because she discovered that she was afraid of the little guys. The week past and she proved to everyone that she was a brave soul and found ways to manage her fear. If you are looking for a week in a lovely semi-tropical without a heavy commercial tourist overtone Taboga Island is for you and it would be hard to have better hosts than Irene and Dan. Happy travels.

Response from Irene & Dan:
Philip and Chantal! Thank you for your very generous review. We enjoyed having you here on Taboga and as guests at our little complex. We are so glad you enjoyed yourselves and that the condo was to your liking. We loved reading about your "wow" moment! That makes us happy! It is always a surprise to walk through the gate and see how pretty it is - even for those of us who live here! And bravo to Chantal for braving the geckos, if not exactly making friends with them. We loved watching you both acclimate, use the pool and the grounds, and explore the island, finding the bars and local establishments and relaxing. You looked so rested by the end of the week. Thank you also for leaving the place spotless! We do hope to see you again someday, somewhere. ~ Irene & Dan

Panama is a unique and varied country, from energetic city night-life to the “tipico” style of Central America. Irene and Dan's place in Taboga gives you easy ferry access to the city, but if authentic Panama is what you are looking for, this is where you'll find it. There are many places to rent in Taboga (I sampled several), but here is what I loved about their place. The open layout and simple décor of their two-story condo blended perfectly with the tropical and marine setting. I felt at home the moment I walked in: vases of tropical garden flowers and sea glass; a welcome set of very handy kitchen items; sitting areas both inside and outside on the bay-facing patio; very comfortable and spotless bedroom, bathroom, and shower; fans and a/c as needed (I chose the breezes through the many windows instead); a notebook of tips to help me settle in but a personal welcome as well and periodic check-ins during my four-day stay - attention to detail in all respects! Their place is located on the outskirts of town with a view of nearby islands and the the bay with ships waiting to transit the canal, marine birds galore, and even the moonrise. Quaint restaurants, friendly residents, swimming beaches and a unique sandbar, many historic sites, and great hikes with fabulous views are only a short walk away. The pool in the middle of the small complex was a perfect place to cool off and enjoy the fragrant garden and the hummingbirds. Staying there was one of the highlights of my seven-week return visit to Panama where I had resided for many years. My stay at Irene and Dan’s helped to refresh my affection for this wonderful country, in large part due to their wonderful hospitality and obvious enjoyment of their winter home.

Denice, Thank you for this wonderful recounting of your experience on Taboga and in our casita. We are so appreciative that you noticed all the little touches! Our goal as hosts is to give each guest exactly what they need - and this changes from guest to guest! Mostly we want you to be comfortable and to feel at home. So you have made our day by confirming that we achieved this! It was lovely having you stay with us and, as with so many of our guests, we feel that we have a new friend in you. Please come back!

Our trip to Taboga and our stay in Irene and Dan's condo was wonderful. They welcomed us warmly, gave us their personal recommendations for restaurants, directed us on a great hike and even accompanied us to a secluded beach. We were there as part of our honeymoon and they left us a special gift to celebrate. The pool in the condo is perfect and the other condo owners were delightful to get to know. We spotted several exotic butterflies and local fauna, and enjoyed marvellous seafood at several restaurants. All in all, it was a magical 3 days and we hope to visit again some day.

When Dan and Irene found out that the last 3 days we were to spend in Panama was at their place on Isla Taboga, they said "you saved the best till last", they were exactly spot on. They are the absolute best in making our stay on the Island a shear joy and delight. They gave us a lovely place to stay. The condo gave us so much space and comfort. Wonderfully decorated and practical. The pool was super clean and refreshing during the heat of the day. Irene and Dan gave us so much historical information on the Island and advice on places to see or visit on Taboga. People that found out about my reason for coming to the Island to connect in a small way with the history of my grandfather. He worked on the Panama Canal and after getting malaria was sent to the Hospital in Taboga. Somehow he recovered even without quinine, that was yet to be discovered as the cure. So many of Dan and Irene's friends jumped in, in giving me relics from the old Hotel turned Hospital. I am so overwhelmed by their generosity. Also made many special discoveries of my own at the old site. My wife and I wished we could have booked a longer stay, as the real treasure are the special people we met in the three days here. It was a wonderful adventure from start to finish, and we value Irene and Dan's friendship forever. Isla Taboga is like a diamond with so many facets. We had the privilege to see many of it's wonderful facets. Absolutely look forward to a future visit.

From the our first contact, Irene and Dan were professional, helpful, and well informed. Their advice about our trip was key to a smooth journey. Upon arrival, we found their lovely condo to be delightful, with a stunning ocean view and a private porch that was a wonderful place to read, snack and sip. As wonderful as the condo is, the highlight of our trip to Panama was getting to meet Dan and Irene. Their extensive knowledge of, and great fondness for, their adopted home is contagious, and we look forward to future trips to get to know Isla Taboga, and Irene and Dan, even better!

We are both New Yorkers who met in Seattle where we live on our sailboat when we're not in Panama. Dan worked for many years running his own business in the marine electrical and systems field. Irene ran cancer patient support programs at UW Medical Center and is now a full time, freelance writer.

We came down a few years ago "just to see" what Panama was like and ended up buying two condos - one for us and one for you! We love Isla Taboga. It is quiet and beautiful and real.

Come and see!
