Great location

At the remote edge of Zion National Park in the heart of the wild Lazalu offers the experience of the Southwest: solitude, wilderness, hiking with no crowds. The accommodations are rustic/elegant in two separate houses that sleep 8.

An artist retreat for 20 years Lazalu is now open to guests. As a filmmaker for PBS and Channel 4 in London, I experience great hospitality and my goal is to make your experience at Lazalu equally fabulous.

The space
There are only two rental houses on the property with a total number of up to 8 guests. Zion Guest House sleeps up to 6 and the Adobe Suite sleeps 2. Each house has their own bathroom and shower. There is also an outdoor shower and outhouse. Renting the whole property creates privacy for your family and friends. There are numerous trails right out the door, or a short drive away. Lazalu's secluded location at the western edge of Zion Park is only a twenty-minute walk to hiking trails in the Park. With no city lights to dim them, the night sky and its stars feel close enough to touch. Lazalu is off the grid and green with our own well and solar system.

There are ancient caves to explore with petroglyphs. There is a reservoir to swim in a short drive up the hill. These are some of the features that make Lazalu unique.

There is a common area to gather and prepare meals. The manager lives on the property and is there to ensure you have what you want. To answer questions and connect you to the experiences that will make your stay memorable. Lazalu is ideal for a small wedding or reunion. Lazalu works with the best local wedding planner.

Guest access
The entire property includes a common area, access to a kitchen, and an outdoor shower in addition to inside showers and full baths. A cabin in the oak grove can be used for work or contemplation. My house and courtyard are private unless you have a question or wish to borrow a book from the library, a collection of 2,000 books on art, poetry, and world literature.

There are licensed guides available and many nearby attractions the manager can tell you about when you arrive.

Other things to note
Lazalu is in the heart of a wilderness and having the right gear is essential: day pack, sunblock, long pants and shirt, waterbottle, good boots or hightop sneakers, and a lot of common sense.

What makes Lazalu unique is its secluded location in a high mountain valley at the Western edge of Zion Park. At a height of 5,800 ft. Lazalu is always 15 degrees cooler than Springdale or the valley. Solitude is fast disappearing from our lives, and you can taste it here. It's quiet. There is a newly paved road running the 11.3 miles up the mountain from Virgin with spectacular views as you drive through Zion Park.

Yet, you are only 40-minutes from Springdale, the center of the park where there is shopping, entertainment, food, bars, and more populated hikes. I like the mix of being in solitude but within reach of town life.

My name is Robert Perkins. I live next to the 146,000 acres of wilderness in Zion Park, on the Park's western edge, an unspoiled, uncrowded area at the edge of adventure. I can't live without poetry and art in my life. I take long solo canoe journeys in the Canadian Arctic, and around the world for PBS and Channel 4 in England. I am a practicing artist who loves solitude and will respect your privacy, or have conversations, if asked. I look forward to sharing this unique AirB&B with you, your family and friends. Visiting Lazalu is the experience of the Southwest you would hope for in the heart of Nature, intimate and personal. As Thomas Gray said, "Away from the madding crowd." For the occasional rainy day, I have a library of 2,000 books on art, world literature, and poetry. If I have a motto and it's this: "not by appointment do we meet delight." I have years of experience in my vicinity and can point you in the right direction. If I can't provide what you want, I know who can.

During your stay
As an artist, I appreciate my privacy and will respect yours. I am discrete. However, I enjoy sharing my local knowledge, if asked. Guided hikes and other outdoor activities can be arranged with advance notice. Meals can also be arranged through the best local restaurant. Or I can shop for you in advance.
