About This Listing
A 150 y.o Victorian house- where Billie Holiday once stayed! Enjoy our garden, sunny loft and rooftop views. Conveniently located downtown within walking distance to the river, park, university, and great local cafes, shops, eateries and breweries.
We have a cozy and charming 150 year old Victorian two story house with a clawfoot tub, light-filled (and cookware-filled) kitchen, cozy loft, large yard for lounging or sun-bathing, and beautiful garden.
Amenities include wireless internet, central heating and air conditioning, a veritable library of great books, a piano, washer/dryer, toiletries, towels, use of the kitchen, and breakfast. Guests should feel free to help themselves to coffee, tea, granola, toast, spreads, scones, yogurt, eggs, oatmeal, fruit, and other breakfast options.
Guests may choose to sleep on our extra long couch downstairs, or on a futon mattress or Aerobed upstairs (in the loft); both the futon and Aerobed (which come topped with a plush, hypoallergenic mattress pad) comfortably sleep two.
In the summer, our backyard fruit trees yield an abundant supply of cherries (including the delicious Rainier!), wine grapes, four types of plums, apples, and Japanese dogwood fruit. In our garden, you'll find organic kale, lettuce, herbs, squash, tomatoes and strawberries, all grown with care. Feel free to gather yourself a fruit & veggie salad; it tastes best when eaten at the handmade wooden table under our cherry tree!
Lastly, guests will enjoy the rich history of our historic home, where celebrated musicians like Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole once stayed.
Interaction with Guests
Unless we're traveling, we will be in and out of the house at different times during the day, and sleeping in our 2nd floor bedroom, adjacent the loft, at night. It's a cozy house, and there are only two rooms upstairs, so we'll certainly cross paths during your visit unless we're travelling. Conversations and interactions are always enjoyable, but not necessary. We'll meet you at your energy level, and will remain respectful of your privacy at all times. :)
This is the best neighborhood in town! It is conveniently located right next to the scenic Skinner Butte, and Alton Baker Park. A quick walk takes you across a beautiful foot bridge, over the Willamette River. The bike path in the park takes you right to the university. Two blocks away on 5th street, you can dine, shop, catch a performance at the Hult Center, or enjoy a coffee/brew at a variety of different local cafes and wine bars. Downtown's dining scene and amenities are just a few blocks further.
Guests can park on premises. There is a bus stop at the corner, and the train station is only a few blocks away. The BOLT bus stop is also only two blocks away.
Other Things to Note
If booking for 3 guests, please note that, unless at least one guest wishes to sleep on the floor, at least two guests will need to share the aerobed and one guest will have the couch. Likewise, if booking for two guests and the guests wish to sleep separately, one guest will have the Aerobed or futon mattress while the other will have the couch.
No pets, please! Our dog loves all people, but prefers to be the only pet in the house (more attention for him).
Small animals in cages (ie: rodents) are okay.
No smoking anywhere on the property.

Great time! Emmeline & Klay's place is close to campus which was ideal for me. They are very welcoming as it feels like you are staying with friends! They had a map for me to find food and suggested places to eat. You get a great deal staying with them for the price.
Emmeline and Clay were great hosts, and their house is perfectly located, a block from the Willamette River and an incredible maze of running trails, a mile from the university, and a block from downtown. Everything was easy. Their dog, Chester, is great entertainment.
I had a really pleasant stay at your house. Since I was only passing through, I didn't get a chance to explore town but it's conveniently located in downtown and has easy access to restaurants and other attractions. I recommend this place to anyone that's visiting Eugene.
Do you want to stay at the best place in Eugene? Because this is how you find the best place to stay in Eugene.
I had a great experience at Emmeline and Clay's home. The house was beautiful, located right in the heart of downtown, just walking distance from Skinner Butte, Fifth Street Market, and several indi theaters. Perhaps the most beautiful site near their home is the park along the Wilamette River. The hosts were kind and helpful, and their dog Chester was lots of fun. I highly recommend this location for anyone visiting Eugene.
About the Host, Emmeline
I love: bookstores, caffeine rituals, caramels, yoga, thrifting, long & leisurely breakfasts, fun runs, music festivals, dulce de leche, sharing food, jazz, funk & classical music, all animals, and emotionally masochistic foreign movies.
