About This Listing
This cozy 1920's home is tucked away in the historic South Capitol Neighborhood of Olympia. Located just minutes away from the Capitol Campus, it's a great place to stay if you're looking to do business in the area or visit downtown Olympia.
*Please make sure you have a profile picture and some information about who you are. I will not accept people without a picture.
We have a private space in our attic that includes two finished rooms. One room has a queen sized bed and the other has a twin-sized futon mattress for one more guest. There is also a table and chairs and a microwave in the second room. If you have a hard time climbing up and down please do not book this space, as you need to climb up a loft ladder to get into the room (see pictures). The ladder goes through a 2'4" x 2'2" hole in the ceiling which is the floor of the room. If you have a large suitcase be mindful it may not fit, and you have to carry it up and down the ladder (we can also help, and if needed you can leave luggage downstairs and carry what you need up). The ceiling is quite low due to the lofty/attic nature of the space, although it hasn't been a problem for most guests.
If you have pets, small dogs are negotiable as long as you can carry them up and down the ladder (under 30 lbs).
We DO NOT do monthly rentals. The longest would be around one week. Exceptions can be made, however we're offering more short-term accommodations and we like a few days notice before accepting guests. Last minute does not work well for us. We do not provide food.
Wireless internet, keyless entry, bus stops around the block, fridge space, kitchen use, back and front yard use, hammock haven use, fresh fruit in the summer right off the trees and vines!
Interaction with Guests
Depends on the guest! During the week very little due to working hours, but weekends are flexible. We have been known to have coffee and go to shows with some of our guests.
We live right across the street from a school which has walking paths, a park, and areas for dogs to run. Across the street at night has a view of the Capitol all lit up from your window (well, the top anyway). The area is family friendly and within walking distance is Olympia Coffee Roasters, Vic's Pizzeria, Frog Pond convenient store, and a great little market called Spud's. During the summer the yard has some fruit trees and grape vines! If you're really ambitious you can take a walking tour to see the historic homes in the area or visit the Capitol's museum.
It is located within walking distance to the bus stop. It's about a 25-30 minute walk to downtown Olympia. There is a parking lot and street parking for your car.
Other Things to Note
There are 2 VERY SOCIAL cats in the house, one who climbs up the ladder. Duncan may want to sleep with you (paw on the face means "lift the covers up!"). There is a dog as well, a blue heeler named Sadie, and she can be a bit neurotic before warming up to you. If you have a dog phobia, please don't stay here (she has never hurt anyone, she is just weary of strangers). The first Mondays of the month will be a bit noisy around here as we host the Olympia Old Time jam from 7-10 pm. Bring an instrument if you'd like! And once again, you have to climb up a ladder to get to your room. If you pee a lot in the night, this may be a problem for you because the bathroom is downstairs.
Monday through Friday, quiet after 11pm. We ask that guests be in before 11pm on the weeknights to be sensitive for our work schedules. Respecting our animals and space as their own. Visiting pets are negotiable. Cook and supply your food, and clean up after yourself. If you smoke please do this outside away from the house. This includes marijuana (you know, legal in Washington now).
Amber and Bradley have a great home. The attic space is cozy and well kept. If you are tall please be aware you will not be able to stand up straight in the space (they note this in their profile). Their animals are kind, especially Duncan. He will spend the night with you and provide excellent company. Overall, we had a nice stay.
Both Amber and her husband were very hospitable. The room is advertised. The beds were comfy, however, if one doesn't like cats be advised there is a very nice and friendly cat on the premises. I would stay there again.
Had a very nice experience. The house is comfortable, the company was engaging and the night was peaceful.
Thank you Amber for your hospitality.
It was a true delight lodging at Amber's charming attic room.
I can highly recommend staying at Amber's charming guest room to any voyagers planning a visit to Olympia. Her house was very clean, tranquil and enchanting. Besides enjoying good conversation with Amber and her boyfriend Bradley, I also enjoyed the interactions with her gentle and well-behaved pets. I confess that the highlight of my 2 day trip to Olympia was befriending her cat Duncan, whom I will truly miss. Duncan seems to me, to be the wisest being on this planet. Who understands with depth and authenticity: the meaning of Life! Duncan makes a purrrrr-fect roommate.
This was a fantastic place to stay ! Amber and Bradley were great hosts, the room was wonderful and the sweet animals were a cherry on top.
Their backyard garden and being able to walk to town made the stay perfect. If I am ever in the area again I hope to rebook.
Traveling with grandchildren can be a challenge but Amber and Bradley were so welcoming and just wonderful hosts. The house is so cute and the pets are sweet. The bed was super comfy. Amber provided a perfect recommendation for coffee and pastries nearby. They were both so patient with our grandchildren who were being...children. We all really enjoyed ourselves.
About the Host, Amber
Hi there! My name is Amber and I live with my boyfriend Bradley, dog Sadie, and cats Duncan and Casey in a cute little house in Olympia. We're quirky 30(ish) professionals who like to play outside. I work as a psychotherapist with my own private practice in Olympia. For fun I like blues and fusion dancing, practicing the fiddle, hosting jams, remodeling homes, taking walks with the dog, reading, and traveling. I moved here from Chicago, Illinois, where I grew up.
Bradley works as a urban planner for the Dept of Transportation for the State of Washington. His life outside of work is fly fisher, hunter, and explorer of rivers. Be ready for the paraphernalia around the house. He is also a food lover, cook, and enjoys finding new and local music. He moved here from twin cities in Minnesota, where he grew up.
We've been hosting people for almost a year now, and so far have had really great experiences. We love meeting new people as well as supporting AirBnb to continue to grow!
