One of the most beautiful and secluded beaches in all of Costa Rica. Perfect for those wishing to relax without crowds or line-ups Only minutes from Quepos to our 3 1/2 acre piece of paradise
Free transportation provided to our location from Quepos.
Our location is a very unique, private and secure three and a half acre property and is located right in front of the ocean of the Central Pacific, not a buggy 'ocean view' as others offer. Also featured is a thatched 'Rancho' right at the beach where you can relax in the shade but still watch the waves rolling in and the boats fishing in the distance. Never crowded and the ideal property for relaxing.
As our guest, you will have access to boogie boards for playing in the surf, for a very small fee. Also, if you would like to try your hand at surfing, we have a long surf board as well as a 2 person kayak available by the day or week.
Included in your rental is high speed WiFi which has great range and can reach to hammocks located among a grove of shade producing almond trees between the home and beach.
Interaction with Guests
We are living in the main home above and are available to offer any assistance required, such as exploring the Isla, translating to Spanish, aiding in booking of tours or directing to the various sights and activities available in our area.
We are BEACHFRONT so the Central Pacific Ocean is at your front door. Ideal for playing in the waves or sitting on the pristine beach. Other activities feature Surf-Fishing, Surfing or Boogie Boarding. ALSO, the most popular tour of this area, the Mangrove Monkey Tour is accessible from here. A little way down the beach is a Christian camp with an Olympic Size Swimming Pool which they will let you use for $4.00/day when in season.
We have various vehicles available to get you to town or around the Isla to fulfill your shopping or other needs. Arrival and departure transportation is included in our price, while other transportation costs vary depending on circumstance. We also maintain a 4 wheel drive SUV on the mainland available for touring or sight seeing. If you wish to drive to our location, a 4 x 4 is recommended.
There is also a private air strip 5 minutes down the beach from us and we can arrange to have you flown right from San Jose to our location in 23 minutes. This circumvents a lot of time and effort spent traveling when you could be enjoying your vacation instead.
We are on Isla Damas which means you need to cross a small river by ferry boat which costs only $0.25 each and is only about 100 meters across. From either downtown Quepos or the boat crossing, we will greet you and transport you to our location.
Other Things to Note
OVERFLOW ACCOMMODATIONS available for up to 5 more persons (total 9 persons) in main house. We also have this in another Airbnb listing as B&B Isla Damas C.R. Large Loft. Check it out if you can't find availability for the apartment.
It is recommended you bring with you an un-locked cell phone so you can purchase a very inexpensive and efficient pre-paid cell phone chip while traveling here. All calls are local in C.R. and you don't pay for incoming calls.
Tipping out Yami for providing laundry and housekeeping services, or Emeliano for keeping you well supplied with coconut juice during your stay is much appreciated by them.
We appreciate any efforts to re-cycle where possible and conserve electricity by turning off lights and other electronic devices when not in use.
My wife, my son, and I stayed at David and Penelope’s wonderful beachfront home for 4 nights in March. What a unique place, truly a secluded beachfront paradise! If you are looking for a place to unwind and disconnect from your normal daily life, this is it. We could connect to the world via the WiFi, but often didn’t bother. I loved that the only sounds were the crash of the surf, the birds, and occasionally the dogs that stay there. We loved having Yoda, Wolfie, Zippy, Junior, and the little Chihuahua (who we called Chocolat, not catching her real name). They were always glad to see us and spent time with us on the beach. David and Penelope were readily available prior to our arrival to make arrangements for our visit – very responsive. David met us on the mainland to ensure we arrived safely, and he arranged a private place for us to park our rental car so we didn't have to worry about it. He picked us up on ATVs and whisked us to the house. I’ll not forget our first sight of the water and the beach. The beach was beautiful and the grounds of the house had a great garden with almond, lemon, coconut, and guanabana trees, to name just a few. Penelope had prepared us a plate of fresh fruit, which was a welcome surprise. We spent a lot of time relaxing in the hammocks in the almond grove. The water was amazing – warm and peaceful, just right for a refreshing dip after the heat of the day had started to wane. The sunsets were utterly beautiful! David and Penelope brought us some pippa juice which is made from the local coconuts by Yammy and Emiliano, the Tico family that lives there. We also got to sample some guanabana juice, also prepared by Yammy and Emiliano – an acquired taste to be sure. David was always happy to help us out with rides to the ferry to Quepos, where we laid in supplies. We took full advantage of the kitchen and the grill, cooking lots of wonderful fish. On our last night there, Yammy prepared us a Tico-style meal, which was delicious, and a a reasonable price. David and Penelope were very friendly and we enjoyed many conversations with them about Isla Damas, Costa Rica, our respective homes, and so on. David arranged a tour for us in the mangrove estuary on the back side of the island. Our captain, Jorge, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took us to see the monkeys and I got to feed one right out of my had! A memorable experience and totally new to us. Using the island as our base of operations, we explored Quepos and the local area and spent some time hiking in the rain forest at the Manuel Antonio national park. Overall, the hospitality shown by David and Penelope was exceptional! I can hardly wait to go back!
Myself, my boyfriend and another couple stayed at Dave and Penelope’s beachfront home for 8 nights at the beginning of March. If we had to describe Dave and Penelope’s accommodations in one phrase it would be ‘a private beachfront paradise’. Their estate was quite large with a several types of vegetation (almond, cashew, lemon, mango and coconut trees and many exotic flowering plants). Dave and Penny brought us fresh lemons, coconut water and coconuts during our stay with them.
The beach - it is impossible to describe how clean, private and picturesque it is! Dave has constructed a palm canopy on the beach to relax in the shade and he has crafted beautiful lounge chairs to bring to the beach with you. He also provided us with a cooler to keep our drinks cold! If you happen to get tired of the beach (which is almost impossible), you can relax under the almond grove in hammocks. It’s a great way to wind down after a long day in the sun!
Prior to our trip, Dave and Penny couldn’t do enough to help us determine the most cost effective and efficient way to travel from the airport to Quepos. They were readily available to ask questions regarding transportation, currency exchange etc. Upon arrival in Quepos, Dave picked us up on ATVs and took us down the beach to their home. What an experience! Travelling by ATV to and from the town of Quepos was very unique, especially when the sun was setting in the evenings!
We absolutely loved how we received a 5-star vacation experience while living in and learning about the Costa Rican culture. The towns of Quepos and Cocal gave us a glimpse into local Tico life. Quepos, a larger town ~ 10 minutes away had lots to do, see and eat! The local food was delicious and the customer service was excellent! A 15-minute bus from Quepos takes you into the hills of the Manuel Antonio National Park where there are beautiful, white sand beaches. We spent one day in the National Park and really enjoyed it!
David was very helpful booking all the tours that we participated in while in Quepos. He was always happy to share his opinion on the tours and had lots of recommendations on restaurants and activities. We participated in the monkey tour and zip-lining tour – both are highly recommended!
The full kitchen and the use of the BBQ made it extremely easy to cook healthy meals (especially after beach drinking and relaxing!). The guys especially enjoyed grilling, chatting with Dave and watching the sunset on Dave’s ocean view balcony! It was definitely a highlight of their trip! If you're feeling a little lazy and don’t feel like cooking, Dave and Penelope’s local friends (who also have an onsite private apartment) will cook you a traditional Tico meal for a very reasonable price. We did this twice – the food was amazing!
Overall, the hospitality shown by David and Penelope was exceptional!
Amazing experience. The location is awesome. Nothing but open ocean in front of you, and beside you, beach with not a soul for miles. If you want a tarnquil beach experience this is it. David and Penny are awesome hosts. The provided us with useful information and gave us a very good orientation to Queopos and surrondings. We stayed in the small appartment, which was private and well equiped. We were greeted each day by a posse of friendly yet unattrusive dogs. Truely a wonderful experience. The only thing to be aware of is that groceries, resturants, bars etc. are a 30 - 40 min walk or 5 min quad ride followed by a very short ferry ride way from the property since it is on an island so you will need to plan ahead. We would definitely go back!
beautiful and very private place right by the beach. David and Penelope always made sure that we had everything we needed during our 3 day stay. I strongly recommend to get some of Yammy's meals, they were delicious! Our second day we did some rafting which David had booked for us, it was a really fun activity to do and we enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
I also recommend to spend some time at the popular Manuel Antonio Park, I saw 3 different kind of monkeys, 5 deers, a sloth, all sorts of beautiful birds, some very colourful crabs.
Thank you David and Pen for this wonderful stay!
David and Penelope were great hosts. They picked us up and drove us around and showed us places. For a small fee they had Emiliano and Yammi fix us typical Costa Rican meals, which was great because we did not feel like cooking. They gave very clear directions and made our stay very, very welcoming.
David and Penelope are incredible hosts. Upon acceptance of my reservation request, they were immediately communicative--not only providing details of how to get to their location, but also suggestions for which buses to take from San Jose to Quepos, how cell phone charges work in CR, and other helpful details that made it easier to plan for our trip in Costa Rica.
The location on the Pacific ocean is simply breathtaking. The beach was quiet, and the hammocks provided the perfect escape from the midday heat. For arrival and departure, David and Emeliano were particularly hospitable in providing ATV rides to and from the ferry; David and Penelope also invited us to join them on a jaunt into Quepos one day, making the trip into town all the easier on the ATV.
The apartment was clean and comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked with anything we might have needed to prepare our meals during our stay. We were especially pleased to enjoy Yami's cooking for three meals during our stay, and Emeliano provided us with an abundance of coconut meats and juice to enjoy.
David also arranged for a private tour of the monkey mangroves. This was a special highlight of the trip; we not only saw (up close!) several monkeys, but were given a fantastic tour of the mangroves and waterways of Isla Dama.
I highly recommend an Airbnb stay with David and Penelope. Their listing is relatively new, but I expect that soon they will boast an Airbnb "Super Host" badge.
We had a great stay at David and Penelope's home. They very kindly accepted a last minute request and went out of their way (numerous times) to ensure that we had a pleasurable stay. The apartment can get warm but you have a beautiful secluded beach, showers and fans to stay cool. Note: The neighborhood you'll pass on your way from Quepos might seem a little dodgy but we had no trouble walking through it. Just use common sense and you should be fine.
Self employed as a tree farmer during Canada spring, summer and fall..Costa Rica resort host during Costa Rica summer.
We enjoy hosting our guests and ensuring they enjoy their vacation and stay with us to the fullest.
