Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Welcome to The Stable - a serene solo respite, artist’s retreat or unique getaway for 1 to 6 registered guests. Close to I-85 & I-40, Duke, NCCU and the downtown Durham scene. Quaint & artsy Hillsborough, funky & fun Chapel Hill/UNC and Carrboro are a short drive. Eno River State Park, hiking & biking trails, and the Mountains to Sea Trail are 2.5 miles away. Full of unexpected details, including an outside labyrinth, The Stable is a comfortable sanctuary for all who want to settle in and smile.

The space
Upon Arrival: Flat, gravel driveway with motion light and ample parking. Walkway with four steps to front door with keyless entry.

Living/Dining Room: Spacious and open with vaulted ceiling, rafters and ceiling fan. Well-lit, tall windows, double doors that open to screened porch. Comfortable seating area and dining table for six. 12 built-in cubbies for stashing your things. Lots of coat hooks. Curtains and shutters if you would like extra privacy. Note: The Stable does not have a TV, on purpose. ;-)

Kitchen: Fully equipped, ready for cooking, baking, meal prep, dining or the proverbial hang out. Smooth, cooktop range, dishwasher, microwave, full-sized fridge with ice maker, hardwood countertops/breakfast bar, 12-cup coffee maker (with filters), Keurig (with a few starter K-cups), French press, electric kettle, toaster, blender and can opener. We've been told that we thought of everything!

Office Nook: Well-lit space adjacent to kitchen with desktop area for laptops/tablets. Wi-Fi, outlets, device charger, basic office supplies, radio, two stools and a little stained-glass sun ornament from Ocracoke Island.

Bathroom: Large, galvanized metal, walk-in shower with grab bar (no tub), soap, shampoo, conditioner, wash cloths, hand towels, bath towels, hooks, towel racks and metal bins for your belongings and a hairdryer. Oh, and a crank out window, too. This bathroom neatly fits it all.

Ground floor Bedroom: Queen size bed featuring Sealy Posturepedic plush Euro pillow top mattress for a perfect night's sleep. Wake up to the sun shining through the trees. There are night stands with wall lights on both sides of the bed with lap trays (think breakfast in bed!) and outlets close by. The closet has hangers, ironing board/iron, extra pillows, blanket, card table and extra chairs. A dresser, two suitcase stands, a ceiling fan and room-darkening curtains all make for a super comfortable bedroom experience. ZZZZZ!

The Loft: Ascend the standard staircase to a spacious, full height, sleeping loft with dutch (Mr. Ed) door. Four twin beds with individual nightstands, hooks, lamps, outlet, and shelves create a little privacy for each guest. Dresser with 6 drawers, a ceiling fan, mirror and 2 windows all make for a fun, comfortable, up and away space. No need to duck down in this loft!

Screened Porch: Large, open gathering space with a peaceful wooded view and a custom-made, wooden rowboat filled with pillows for reading and napping. A long table, chairs, ceiling fan and utility sink. Step outside the porch and enter the 5-circuit labyrinth for a meditative stroll. Picnic table in back yard and a fire pit (use only upon request, please)

Guest access
The entire space, inside and out, is yours to enjoy. No more than 6, REGISTERED guests at anytime during your stay. Not suitable for infants or children under 12. There are a few shelves and bins marked "owner's only". Please respect this.

Neighborhood highlights

"The Stable" is located in a quiet, rural community, down a semi-bumpy gravel road. A good time to start slowing down and taking a nice breath of fresh air. We are centrally located between Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill with a 15 min. drive to downtown Durham, 10 min. to downtown Hillsborough and 20 min. to downtown Chapel Hill/Carrboro. The neighborhood is safe for walking and running. Sunny mornings start with the neighborhood rooster's crow and peaceful evenings linger with the sounds of crickets and the train whistle off in the distance. Let the screen door slam!
