Beautiful one-bedroom apartment with lovely outdoor patio in classic Edwardian building in one of San Francisco's most desirable and convenient neighborhoods.

The Space

This is a lovely apartment in one of the most desirable and convenient neighborhoods in San Francisco. You are within a block or two of first-class restaurants, cozy cafes, chic shops, and lively bars (if that's what you're into) — but the apartment itself is tucked away on a quiet street lined with stately Chinese elm trees, flowers, and Victorian houses. The apartment is located on the border of the Castro and Duboce Triangle neighborhoods — one block from Market Street, San Francisco's main street — a convenient location for exploring the city.

The apartment is in a classic 1908 Edwardian building that was completely renovated in 2009 with all new systems (while preserving the original architectural details). The apartment is tastefully furnished in a contemporary style. It faces the rear of the building and is extremely quiet. In addition to a large bedroom, spacious kitchen, and a living room, it has a shaded private deck with a cafe table and chairs. Beyond that is a lush garden and patio — a common area that is rarely used by other residents of the building, so it feels quite private.

The chef's kitchen is fully equipped with a new Viking range, fridge, and dishwasher, and microwave. You are welcome to use the dishes, utensils, pots and pans, as well as the condiments, spices, cooking oils, etc.

The apartment also has an in-unit washer/dryer, 42" LCD flat-screen TV (with free movies via Netflix), Apple TV, wireless Internet, and a telephone line with unlimited free phone calls within US (please do not make foreign calls with this phone).

The bedroom faces the deck and is furnished with a comfortable platform bed and Danish mid-century desk. The bathroom has a shower and tub with instant-on hot water and good pressure. Plenty of fresh linens and towels are provided.

The location is well served by public transportation. You are one block from Market Street (where vintage F-line trolleys can take you downtown in 20 minutes), two blocks from MUNI trains (downtown in 10 minutes), and a 10-minute walk from BART (which runs to both San Francisco and Oakland airports). You are also three blocks from lovely Duboce Park and two blocks from the fabulous art deco Castro Theater.

Everone who has stayed here has really enjoyed it — I'm sure you will, too!

  • My parents stayed at Peter's apartment during their visit to San Francisco. He has a beautiful flat with state of the art kitchen and TV! They really enjoyed having a kitchen and eating area and being centrally located. Peter (email hidden)! They are looking forward to returning! Thanks, Peter!

  • We stayed at Peter's place for five nights in late June, and his place was exactly what we expected, and more. Peter's apartment is located in a great neighbourhood, with many public transportation options, grocery stores and great restaurants and coffee shops. Peter made sure to communicate with us prior to our arrival, and made he was there to welcome us in San Francisco.

His apartment was exactly as advertised, and very clean upon our arrival. The bottle of wine Peter left us was a great welcome gift that started off our vacation on a good note. His kitchen is fully stocked, and is great to cook in – there is not one thing we thought was missing from the kitchen. There is also a great outdoor patio with a BBQ.

Peter’s place is extremely quiet and peaceful. We would not hesitate to rent Peter’s place on another visit to San Francisco. If you are looking (email hidden) to stay and in a great neighbourhood with a lot of nearby options (coffee, food, bars, groceries, transportation), you will definitely not regret this choice.

    Response from Peter:

Hi Jessica. Thanks so much for the great review. Sorry about the roof. It's not really a deck but just a roof with nice views. (You could have ignored the sign -- everyone else does.) :)

The bed is very comfortable, and you can find all you need to cook thanks to his up-to-date kitchen! Peter hase been very helpfull to inform us before our arrival.
Go for it, you won't regret it!!!

  • Fantastic place! Perfect location to walk to everything in the Castro. I like to hit the gym while I'm on the road and there are several within 2 blocks. Food? Some of the best in the city. From restaurants to delis, to grocery stores, it's all just a few moments from the front door. The apartment is very nice. Great kitchen if you like to cook. Comfy bed. The back deck and yard is really nice. Very quiet, too.

  • Great house, Great location, great host. From before we arrived Peter was sure that our accomodation would be smooth. Every question i had was answered on a timely basis and every amenity i requested was fulfilled.
He has a beautiful home in a great location. We had a bodega across the street for our needs , a beautiful deck to sit on, brand new towels and a bottle of wine for our arrival.
Not a single glitch and not a single amenity missing.
Located in the heart of the castro on a quiet tree-lined street, we could walk out the door and everything was we needed was at our fingertips.
    will be back

  • I stayed in Peter's apartment for almost a month in April. The apartment is simply amazing - it is in one of the nicest neighborhoods of San Francisco - very central, very close to MUNI, very quiet, very green and close to a number of great restaurants and two amazing parks. The apartment itself is in a renovated old San Francisco house and is decorated with Peter's photography from all around the world - all pieces of art. It has a great living room attached to an outstanding back patio. Peter has a large library of excellent books should you be so inclined to read - and the living room - especially in the morning light - is so inviting for that. The apartment has a very large, fully stacked kitchen. I utilized it on most evenings during my stay and cooking was so much fun in it. The bedroom is furnished with a very comfortable bed and a study. The bathroom has a full size bathtub. The unit has a washer and a drier in it.

Upon check-in, the apartment was simply spotless. Peter was very attentive and generous during my entire stay. He left a very nice bottle of wine and told me to use any item from the fridge. I got to know Peter over lunch - he is a very nice guy with a lot to tell. I truly enjoyed meeting him and now consider him a friend.

This is simply an amazing apartment - if you happen to travel to San Francisco, it would be probably impossible to (email hidden) to stay. I really hope I find it available for my future visits.

  • Peter (email hidden) in a great neighborhood. Coffee in the morning's right down the block; deli food for lunch is right down the block; a movie theater where we went is a nice walk away; dinner at a middle eastern restaurant, right down the block; dinner at a great tapas place, right down the block. We used them all!
The place is cozy with a backyard garden and chairs, cable TV, platform bed, soaking tub-- and in a quiet building right on the street.
Since we'll be visiting SF a few times a year now, if it's open, we'll certainly stay there again.

  • I cannot say enough good things about my stay at Peter's place. I stayed there with my husband this past week.

The neighborhood was quiet and safe, yet had great places to go out to at night- restaurants, bars, etc all within a very short walk. There were 2 small markets right across the street which had all basic necessities. There was even a gym close by if you really need that. As for accessibility, there was public transportation in all forms within a 2-5 min. walk. (BART was about 10-15 min walk)

The apartment itself was very clean, modern, and spacious. The kitchen was equipped with top of the line everything. There was a nice outdoor area which we didn't get to use, but it was definitely serene and lovely. The bed was comfortable and the bedroom itself got a ton of natural light in the morning- a great thing to wake up to. Also, there were great photographs all over the apartment which I fell in love with.

We spent 5 wonderful days in SF, jam packed with things to see and do, and at the end of the day it was comforting to know we had Peter's place to come back to.

    Just book it!

  • Peter's place was exactly as shown in the pictures. My husband and I just recently spent 6 days in San Fran and Peter's place was perfect. A short 3 block walk to Safeway and transit to the F-Line that took us everywhere we needed to be. It was less than half a block away.

We had all the amenities we needed. Our only regret was not meeting Peter himself but he was kind enough to leave us a lovely bottle of wine and excellent instructions.

His place was private, quiet and in a great neighbourhood. Would love the opportunity to stay here again should we visit San Francisco again.

I'm a writer, editor, and photographer. I'm originally from Connecticut and N.Y. but have been living in S.F. for 20 years. I love to travel and meet new people and cultures. I'm well educated but I'm convinced I've learned more from my travels than from my formal schooling. I live with my mischievous yellow lab Luke in a quiet, stylishly furnished apartment in an Edwardian building in the heart of San Francisco.
