A Gateway to an Authentic Greek Experience
Kalyvia Sochas is not for everyone —
but for those with a sense of adventure, this lovely little village and home, are a gateway to an authentic Greek experience.
The original home was completed in 1957 and remained relatively unchanged until extensive renovations were undertaken over six months in 2009. The house interiors were totally redone with new kitchen and bathroom as well as new furnishings throughout. Brand new windows and doors were installed along with air conditioning and a washer/dryer. There is a modest library, of mostly Greek themed books and a small collection of local art and crafts that the owners hope to add to over the years with each visit.
Located less than 7 Km south of Sparti in the Peloponnese. Kalyvia Sochas is a small village of about 150 extremely friendly and generous townspeople including a number of English speakers. It is a few minutes from Sparti with it’s many cafes, restaurants, bakeries, clothing stores and supermarkets.
Close by is the port of Gythio and numerous beaches including Beach Hive and Marvrovouni. The Mani Peninsula, Mystras, Monemvasia the Tiegetos mountain range and the many olive and orange groves offer endless opportunities for exploration and recreation.
There is regular bus service to and from Sparta as well as the local beaches but a vehicle is strongly recommended to best experience all this area has to offer.

Leah & Dylan:
We had such a fabulous time during our stay at your home in Kalyvia Sochas and can't thank you enough. We immediately fell in love with Greece: the diverse landscape, the people and the food!
The drive from Athens was easy (and fast!) and we arrived in Kalyvia Sochas a little early – enough time to stop at the bakery to pick up a large quantity of baklava!
The house was great and we quickly settled in. It was stocked with everything we needed, and we spent much time perusing through your "Greek library." The local roosters were kind enough to ensure we didn’t miss the sunrise and our mornings were often spent plotting the day’s adventures, drinking coffee on the balcony and greeting the locals as they walked by.
We can't thank you enough, the vacation was a perfect balance between historic ruins, relaxation on the beach, and glimpses into everyday Greek life.
Staying in the village was not only convenient and peaceful, but a great way to feel the rhythm of a small community. As you predicted, the people were super friendly.
