My stay here was great. I did get to meet Lucrezia she seemed very nice but very high energy always on the go. Jim is very nice and helped me when I needed it and was nice company. He became a good friend. My room was very clean and I loved all the windows. This was the first time I have ever stayed somewhere like this . It was definitely different. I thought it was a room at a house with 2 roommates but it is kinda like a boarding house with multiple people. That did make me feel awkward. I was the only female for a few days. I would recommend this to a guy or couple but , I think for a women by herself it might be uncomfortable . No Regrets !!
Lucrezia allowed me to check-in early and check-out later, and was readily available when I needed to contact her. Everything went smoothly and the room was very comfortable. Would definitely go there again!
The main reason I wanted to stay here was I've never seen so much positive discussion about the host. Most reviews talk about the place, the area, etc. So when I got here I knew why. You could instantly tell Lucrezia's hobby was meeting new people.
As far as dwellings, Medford is a comfortable "old money" community - very safe, very peaceful, very suburban. And a hop skip and a jump to Whole Foods.
You will be living with a lot of people overall - about 4 per floor. This was a shock to me because there were only 2-4 people max in my prior stays.
Your experience will greatly depend on which floor you are on. I was on the 2nd floor near the kitchen. So I experienced a lot of talking, cooking, foot traffic, etc. If you are on the floor above, it is quite tranquil. I think the bottom floor has more of an apartment feel also. But the kitchen floor has more of an international youth hostel/college dorm feel to it.
So the photos you see of the room are representative of the room you will get, but the actual room could differ... this is a very big house with lots of rooms.
And you need to be aware that Lucrezia lives nearby but not on site. That may be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at things like that. What I found is that it led to minor temporary inconveniences like overfull trash cans. She's certainly quite responsive day or night.
Room was clean enough -- but please note the location is actually a bit difficult to get to, since it's in Medford. So, unless you're traveling only during commute-hours (and don't stay out in the evening), it can be a bit problematic getting home at night. By contrast, the morning commuter bus was very quick, since it comes every 10-15 minutes, and barrels rather quickly into downtown Boston, since it can use the HOV lanes on the highway. (Basically, I think most people who live in Medford have cars; I never tried the "purple line" commuter-rail, but again, that only runs during work-hours).
I found the shared bathroom situation to be a bit "crowded" -- and the noise level more comparable to a college/hostel environment. The walls and ceiling are also not very good at keeping out the sound of the other tenants -- someone moving a chair in the room above will sound like it's right on top of you. Not sure what can be done about this -- as it's an older building.
However, in spite of these "minuses", the room was clean, and the host very polite -- and the room was not expensive, especially compared to other places I stayed at nearly double the price.
Overall, it was adequate, short-term accommodation -- but I hope a few things could be done to "soften" the noise level of doors and floors in the building. Hope this helps! best, --dk
I stayed for a few days here. Lucrezia is a very warm, helpful, generous and energetic host who helped me with my luggage, checked in on how I was doing, and gave me great suggestions on transportation and food in the area.
The room is clean, comfortable and very spacious. The kitchen and common space is shared with four or five other housemates. The housemates are very nice and respectful people, and most are long-term tenants.
The neighborhood is highly residential and felt pretty safe. The house is about 4 miles from Harvard Square, an easy half hour commute by bus and T.
A great experience overall. I'd recommend this for short-term stays in Boston.
Lucrezia is a delightful person, a powerhouse of energy, and very solicitous of guests' well-being. She went out of her way to show me around and get set in the house. Other guests were very quiet; I hardly could tell they were there. I hope to be able to book a room here again on my next pass through town.
Lucrezia was great at communicating the details for arrival ahead of time, which I appreciated. Unfortunately the room I reserved received water damage right before my trip and Lucrezia didn't tell me that I was switched to a different part of the house with no access to the living room. So it was a mixed bag - a clean room and easy arrival, but not actually the room I booked.
I didn't met Lucrezia but she was very responsive and kind. The bedroom was comfortable especially the mattress. The cleanliness of the bedroom was fair so far. You have to share the kitchen and bath, but the bath smell was bad.
A GREAT PLACE TO STAY FOR THE MONEY. EXCELLENT PARKING, REASONABLY CLEAN. SLIGHTLY NOISY NEIGHBORS THAT COOLED OUT WHEN ASKED. I WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN. dO NOTE THAT LUCREZIA DOES NOT RESIDE IN THE SAME HOUSE.
I spend only one night in Lucrezia´s house, but all was perfect. Even if I didn´t meet her (she wasn´t at home), all was well organized to make me feeling at home. She gaves me a lot of information about the transport before I comming and all was prepared when I come in the house, so I haven´t had any problem. The room and the bed was very comfortable and the house is clean. I passed a good night in Lucrezia´s home.
