The farm is located in a close knit farming community in rural Chatham County where small farms and forest lands offer beautiful scenery, fresh air and serenity. In fact the old time name for this neighborhood is Big Meadows and was historically settled by Quaker dairy farmers. The property owners are avid gardeners and tend large ornamental and vegetable gardens. A pasture with 2 horses adds to the rural ambiance. Country roads offer a 30 minute drive to Chapel hill, 1 hour to Durham, Greensboro or Raleigh and 15 minutes to historic Pittsboro or Saxapahaw. The area is home to universities, museums, public gardens, good restaurants, music venues and unique shopping offering visitors a diverse selection of attractions. The Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival is held every spring and fall just 5 miles away in Silk Hope.
There is no public transit, a car will be necessary. Parking is ample and getting around is easy on secondary roads.
Other Things to Note
Pasture accommodations for horses can be provided should you be traveling with one or two.
We live a quiet life but never a dull moment. We would however frown on loud, raucous behavior. Smoking is allowed in outdoor areas.
We had a lovely time staying here on a very cold night. The cottage was snug and immaculate. The design inside was very nice, and our hosts were the right combination of friendly but hands-off.
I had such a relaxing time at the cottage. Everything was ship shape and clean. It was pretty cold out so I didn't get to spend much time outside but the location is beautiful.
Highly recommended. Will definitely return.
The garden cottage was just as described. Caroline and Roland were very welcoming. All amenities were considered by the hosts. A beautiful place and wonderful space to retreat to. Our favorite part was the well designed views from the private cottage. And being able to walk the trail on property. Cell phone reception is virtually nill- which suited us fine as we were seeking an unplugged weekend. In summary: the garden cottage is lovely and peaceful. Looking forward to returning when the garden is in bloom!
The Garden Cottage is a lovely place to stay that fulfills airbnb 's mission as a home stay with friends versus a hotel. The hosts were attentive and charming and the cottage was spacious, well designed and well stocked. Will definitely book again.
This was a lovely AirBNB experience, with very gracious hosts. The cottage is situated on a beautiful swath of conserved farmland - picturesque and peaceful. The cottage itself is very nice, decorated tastefully and thoughtfully outfitted with anything you might need. The bed in particular was heavenly - extremely comfortable. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and hope to be back!
This cottage is even more lovely in person, so beautifully decorated and spotless, with everything we needed for a very comfortable night's stay. Caroline and Rowland greeted us as we were leaving the next morning ( we arrived after 11 PM) and we enjoyed talking with them and meeting their dogs, Chloe and Oscar. They were very gracious hosts and we will definitely stay with them again!
Caroline and Roland have created an absolutely beautiful space just outside of Pittsboro. We arrived late in the evening while they were not home, but they had left the cottage warm and with a light on. They gave us our privacy, but were perfectly friendly and welcoming the following morning. The space inside the cottage is just as it appears in the pictures and wonderfully homelike. Outside of the interior, their property is stunning. Two lovely horses (for horse folk), beautiful pastures, trails through woodlands, and lovely gardens. It was the perfect respite and get away for a night; in fact, we wanted to stay longer and would certainly return. I would absolutely recommend staying here to anyone!
