The Space

You will have a great private, quiet bedroom in our apartment. The room has a Queen-sized bed that is quite comfortable. We have all the basic things you would have at home There is a shared bathroom, and a full, but somewhat small kitchen. We have Wi-Fi, but no television. Who needs a TV when you have New York steps outside your door! We are close to the 2 and 5 trains and 3 blocks from the Q train, making anywhere in Manhattan easily accessible. A half a block past the Q train is the entrance to Prospect Park, a real hidden gem of a public space. Our corner of the park is home to the newly opened LeFrak Center at Lakeside. The brand new public skating rinks are incredible. On street parking is available and readily available within two blocks. We are awesome hosts and have had visitors from all over the world. We sometimes host exchange students visiting New York while taking short courses. A great bonus' to staying with us is that I am a Freelance NYC tour guide and photographer. I have a flexible schedule and would be more than willing to help you see the best that New York has to offer. My wife and I look forward to meeting you and we hope to see you soon.

Interaction with Guests

We love to interact with our guests as much as they would like to interact with us. We are staying in the same space after all.

The Neighborhood

We live in a real hidden gem of a Brooklyn neighborhood. It is predominently Caribbean but is in the midst of a huge change with many new families and businesses moving in frequently.

Getting around

We are very close to the B,Q,2, and 5 subway lines and are very well served by public bus lines.

Other Things to Note

Our place has been featured in a story about airbnb and the law in New York on Al Jazeera America TV and I have been quoted in the New Yorker magazine while talking about the same subject.

  • It's been the first time i met a committed airbnb'er as david and thus it was an interesting and warm experience. The apartment is decorated so thoughtfully and I got inspiration in how to be a host myself someday..

  • David is a great host. We need to stay at NYC for 3 more days because of a accident, and David accept our request at the last minute. My mom and my aunt can't speak English, and David tried many ways to communicate with them and make every thing comfortable for them to stay. The room has an artistic yet cozy setting, and is surprisingly good and comfortable with everything provided. Thank you David for a pleasant stay.

  • Me and my friend had a wonderful stay at David's house. Although he wasn't there the first time we came, his wife was there and really happy to settle us in. The room was really clean, comfortable and cozy, just what we needed! Bathroom was also really clean, great shower etc. Because our bedroom was in the back of the apartment, we could sleep really well, no noise of the street or anything like that. When we came back the last evening to pick up our stuff, David was there so we were finally introduced to each other. Overall, great stay! We would recommend it.

  • After a delayed flight my girflriend and I arrived at David's place 4am in the morning. He was really flexible, answered our morning calls and take care of us. The next day, his wife baked fresh bread for breakfast and we had a great conversation with them - from that moment we felt like old friends together. Both of the guys know New York well and always have a hint what to do and how to organize our trip to avoid big crowds, etc.

They did a really good job decorating their apartment. It's a cozy, nice place to hang around, and really feels like a home. The pictures tell the truth, everything is as expected. Don't be scared about the house rules - it feels natural, and really helps keeping the place clean. The air was always fresh, everything was clean from our bed to the bathroom.

The neighborhood is really nice, people are kind and friendly. Trains are within walking distance, it's really easy to reach Coney Island or Manhattan via express trains. Walking home in the night felt safe, we never took a cab, and didn't have any issues nor witnessed any strange events there. People living in these old brownstone houses keep their area tidy, thus the nieghborhood looks exactly like in the movies :-)

David and Tacey are intelligent, open-minded people. We had great conversations with them about their and our culture, history and also personal stuff. We were really satisfied with everything and hope we can meet these guys soon again.

  • My friend and I stayed with these very welcoming hosts in Brooklyn and had a great time. From the moment we arrived until the time we left they took extremely good care of us and provided us with intersting conversation and very helpful advice. Ask David for the best pizza in town and he will deliver!

We both definitely hope to be back in New York again (bar the subzero temperatures!) and staying in Brooklyn again.

  • Our stay in David and Tacey´s home was great. Their house is clean, quiet and just as beautiful as in the pictures. They make you feel comfortable and give you your own space while at the same time they are close and helpful. Good music, good pictures and good advice to discover NYC.
We have really enjoyed our time with them!

  • David and his wife will make sure you have a wonderful stay in NYC! They are extremely firendly and will make your feel welcome and at home in their appartment and will always help you in finding the best places in NYC. Their appartment is stylish and cosy and the room looks like a hotel room and has a lovely bed. The neighborhood is ok. It's not the best neighborhood. Especially by night it looks a bit sketchy. There are also no nice coffee places or restaurants close by. However, the Q subway line (just 5 min away) takes you quickly to Manhattan and David makes wonderful, typically American breakfasts in the morning and is very interested in the stories/backgrounds/nationalities of his guests. Altogether, we (my mother and I) had a wonderful time in NYC and I would warmly recommend to stay at David's appartment!

  • It was great staying at David's place. He knows the city really well and is willing to help you in every possible way. He gave us general ideas about the cool places in the city and we ended up having a great time. Very communicative and interesting person.

In terms of room itself, its a good room. Very clean not that far away from the subway.

  • David and Tacey were great! Besides being all-around friendly and generous people, they had great suggestions for how to get into and around Manhattan, as well as what to do and where to go for good food in Brooklyn. The apartment is clean and bright, and the room was very comfortable. They had plenty of hooks for hanging things up, drawers for storage, and power outlets for our gizmos, which isn't the case at many airbnbs. We definitely felt welcome, and we're interested in staying here again in the future.

Photographer-Tour Guide
My wife and I are in our early forties. I am a photographer, tour guide, and entrepreneur. I have a web site for my business heyjoenyc(.)com . We have a great apartment in Prospect Lefferts Garden, Brooklyn. Ours is a three bedroom apartment, our bedroom, a guest room for you, and a room set up as an office with the ability to set up our air bed for use as a third bedroom. Our apartment has been described as lovely, cozy, and welcoming. The neighborhood is up and coming. There are stunning brownstones nearby and we are three blocks from Prospect Park. The #2 and #5 trains are one block away and the Q train is three blocks away from our front door. There is a large Caribbean population in our neighborhood. We have a small cafe within walking distance as well as great Indian, Mexican, and of course Caribbean restaurants. A little more about me. I love exploring the world and especially New York City. I love new music and I'm a New York City music photographer. I like to cook and try to use natural and healthy ingredients. I like to read classic fiction as well as books on history and sports. My favorite authors are Hemmingway, Kerouac, Vonnegut, Charles Bukowski and Richard Brautigan. I love traveling and meeting new people. I have many friends from Canada, France, Brazil, Spain, and the Czech Republic. I know a few words of French, but I can usually make myself understood no matter what your proficiency is in English. I look forward to meeting you and sharing what I know about this wonderful city.
