A gorgeous apartment in the quiet and secure yet centrally located area of Garden City. The neighbourhood was the epitome of class at the turn of the century, many original features remain yet the apartment is comfortable and I hope it can be your home away from home!
With grand high ceilings, chandeliers and wooden flooring throughout the salon and dining room this apartment is a taste of old-world charm. My space is comfortably yet simply furnished to contrast with the frenetic yet fabulous city of Cairo.
Nowhere in Cairo is quiet 24-7 yet the position of the apartment in one of the most peaceful areas of central Cairo is a lot calmer than most! Night time in Garden City is particularly quiet and it's one of the few areas where you are surrounded by greenery and you might awake to the sound of birds singing.
I love art and there are several nice pieces in the apartment, much of the furniture is antique and the balcony is a perfect place to relax after a long day of sightseeing.
The apartment is located centrally, just 10 minutes away from the Egyptian Museum yet it is a very calm area and close to some fantastic restaurants and cafes.
The flat does not have wifi but you are free to use my USB modem which is adequate for surfing the net (but not for streaming).
I'm a pianist and the apartment has a piano which you are free to use.
The bathroom has a good shower with hot water. Neither the kitchen not the bathroom are modern but they are adequate and clean.
A cleaner comes once a week. If you would like her to come more often it can easily be arranged.
Interaction with Guests
I'll be available to answer any questions at any time.
I can also help you to organize a private dance lesson with a belly dance instructor or with a chef who will love to take you to the nearby market to buy the freshest ingredients and then teach you to make signature Egyptian dishes. Just ask.
Garden City is an architectural treasure in itself. Many old villas remain in various shades of delightful dilapidation! The area is home to some important modernist buildings and is one of the few neighbourhoods of Cairo that hasn't been taken over by sky-scraping brick apartment blocks.
The apartment is close to a number of 5 star hotels where you can get a fantastic meal or cocktail. There are also a number of great local cafes and antique shops close by. Many embassies are in the area making it quite secure.
We are very close to Zamalek, another popular and posh central neighbourhood full of cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs. Downtown Cairo, a neighbouring suburb, is also close by and definitely deserves exploring.
Cairo has been in the news a lot; Garden City is a great place to be reminded that Cairo is charming, inspiring and full of all types of unexpected history.
The metro is ten minutes walk away. Taxis are easy to find, (choose the white ones as they have a meter). The apartment is also within easy distance of the main railway station. I will be happy to organize a taxi from the airport for you.
Other Things to Note
I love hospitality and am excited to be able to welcome guests who wish to explore Egypt. I'll do my best to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. For hints and tips about restaurants/nightlife/anything at all just ask.
Had an amazing time in James's flat in Cairo. The location was great, Garden City is a very pretty and quiet part of Cairo and within walking distance of great views of the Nile, the metro station and the centre of town. The apartment itself is absolutely stunning with beautiful wooden floors and furniture. James was a great host, leaving us a mobile phone to use, some great books on Egypt and some bottled water. Would highly recommend James' flat to anyone.

Thank you James for a great stay. What an impressive apartment: full of character and books! A real oasis in Cairo (and so much bigger than the photographs led us to believe). Very handy for the metro, walking to the museum (as Tahir Square metro is still closed) and wi-fi at the almost next-door Four Seasons. We appreciated your restaurant recommendations as well as you arranging a taxi pickup from the airport for us. Should we visit Cairo again we will definitely stay again.
James 's apartment is a gem, spacious with a great aura, nicely decorated, quiet, clean, great room, rest areas , terrace...
We communicated many times before and after arrival, which made everything easy, stress free in what can be a complicated city.
James was unusually thoughtful, helping to make our first visit to Cairo seem easy both before and during our stay. The apartment is spacious and comfortable, with a lot of character and style. It's very nicely located in a central but calm part of the city. I am hoping to return and would highly recommend James as a host to friends visiting Cairo.
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
A young guy, interested in history, Egyptology, music, art, friends, hanging out and meeting new people. I've traveled quite a lot around the world but happy to call Egypt my home currently!
