Planning to visit the best city in Europe?! I would love to welcome you in my cosy, clean and comfortable apartment. The apartment has all amenities needed for a great stay, located just a 10-15-minute bike ride from Amsterdam's beautiful, canal-filled city center!
The apartment is up one flight of stairs. It is 55 m2, with a living room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms. It has a light, homy and relaxed feel. The apartment and balcony (great for sun-filled breakfasts in the spring/summer!) were renovated in 2008 and are in good shape. The bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom are quite small, typical of Amsterdam. But the apartment comfortably accommodates 3 people. I will provide clean sheets and towels, and guests are welcome to use the washing machine and WiFi. You can also make and store food in the kitchen. I do not offer breakfast, though you are welcome to make your own free cup of tea or Senseo coffee.
I will always try and meet you for a personal check-in. Check-in time on Friday is usually around 6 pm, check-out on Sunday is between 11 am and 12 pm. Sometimes exceptions can be made of course, just contact me.
Guests will have access to the entire apartment (easy, as it is small :-).
Interaction with Guests
I will always try to personally welcome guests, show them around the apartment, and give them tips for what to see and do in Amsterdam. Besides the check-in and check-out, I will respect the privacy of my guests and will not be present in the apartment. Guests have my number in case of an emergency.
My neighborhood is an ideal base for exploring Amsterdam. The apartment is more affordable because it's not located in the city center, but it's close enough to have easy access to everything Amsterdam has to offer. The apartment is close to two city parks, the beautiful country side just outside of Amsterdam ("Waterland"), the amazing Museum of the Tropics (my favorite museum, besides the Photography museum!) and the famous Artis zoo, the famous Amsterdam brewery 't IJ (in an old windmill) and of course the tourist hot-spot: the city center of Amsterdam (a 10-15 minute bike or tram ride). My apartment is close to various smaller and larger supermarkets (reg. & organic), cafes, restaurants, shops and a farmer's market. The "Indische Buurt" is a culturally diverse and up and coming neighborhood in Amsterdam. It is residential and very safe, but lively at the same time.
The nearest tram to the city center (Tram 14) is 1 min. walking from my house. This tram will take you to a lot of city highlights (various museums and the Zoo, the Waterlooplein fleemarket, Rembrandtplein and the flower market, the main shopping streets, Dam square, the Red Light District, Wester tower, etc.) The apartment is also close to the Amsterdam Muiderpoort train station (5 min. to Amsterdam Central Station), as well as various other buses/trams (bus65 to Amstel Station, 22 to Central Station, 37, 40, 41, tram(phone number hidden)-hour GVB (the public transportation company in Amsterdam) tickets can be bought on the bus or tram (2,80 euros), as well as a 24 hour pass (7,50 euros). If you'd like to but a 48 or 72-hour pass or other city passes, you can go to the GVB office near the train station (across from the main entrance).
From the airport it's easiest to take a train to Amsterdam Central Station (10 min.; tickets can be bought at yellow/blue NS machines or with NS personnel at a ticket counter) and then hop on the 22 bus in the direction of the "Indische Buurt." Closest stop is "Javaplein" (10 min. from Amsterdam Central train station) - total trip about 30-40 min. (incl. transfer times). If you prefer taking a tram, you can also walk from the Central Station to Dam square (or take one of the many trams that go there, such as the (phone number hidden) or 17). From Dam square you can take tram 14 in the direction of "Flevopark" and get off at Javaplein.
From Javaplein it's a 3 min. walk to my house. You will find a link to (website hidden) Maps in your reservation, so you can find your way to my apartment.
Other Things to Note
The bedrooms are on the street side and sometimes this means some street noise, but the neighborhood is residential and relatively quiet. In the mornings the balcony is sun-filled and a wonderful place to have breakfast (when the weather allows).
Paid parking is available on my street, though I recommend anyone coming to Amsterdam to make use of the wonderful public transportation system or bikes!
At the StayOkay Hostel on Timorplein (a few min. walking from my house) you can print out things for a few cents if you send them over email (useful if you have e.g. museum or flight tickets). You can also buy the fast entry tickets to e.g. the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum directly from them (which is great if you'd like to avoid long queues).
- Please respect my neighbors and make sure there's no loud noise/music after 10 pm (including washing).
- Garbage or other things may not be left in the (public) hallway.
- Please do not keep food in your room, but rather keep it in the fridge / kitchen.
- No (overnight) visitors allowed.
- No smoking allowed, of any kind! Preferably also not on the balcony.
- No pets allowed in the apartment (allergies!).
We had a great time at Pieternel's flat. It was very clean, and felt cosy (thanks for the fresh flowers!). Pierternel was a great host, communication with her was easy. The area around the flat is very nice, with restaurants, shops, a very cool independent cinema and a park. Thanks again!
Pieternel's place was excellent! It may not be at the city centre but amsterdam central is easily accessible by tram! It is indeed cosy and clean. Pieternel also provides good service and check in check out was smooth and easy :)
Pieternel was an absolutely wonderful host and her apartment is just as lovely and quaint as it looks in the pictures she provides. She was nice enough to meet us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the place, recommended local places to visit, and even let us use one of her bikes. Her apartment is in a lovely part of town, and we never had any issues getting into the city central as there were plenty of options. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking to visit Amsterdam!
Pieternel's absolutely beautiful flat charmed us the moment we walked in...she has really made it feel like a home away from home. The flat is meticulously clean, airy, and cheerful, with all of the amenities any traveler could want, in a perfect location just steps from tram and bus. We were fortunate to meet Pieternel in person, and she is as charming as her home...we really appreciated the extra effort she took to make a walking map and suggest local shopping and non-tourist treasures to find. Highly, highly recommended.
Pieternel is a great girl! She was our first experience with AirBnb ... and was a great first experience! About a month before leaving for Holland I contacted her by email and immediately seemed a kind girl. So I decided to rent his house for two nights. When we (3 friends) arrived she came to the tram stop to take us to the apartment which is 2 minutes walk. The house is really cozy and has a "good karma" ... I do not know if you understand what I mean. Pieternel has thought of everything to make us feel like home and recommended us some nice place to eat, where to buy food and suggested us some interesting things to do.
If you spend a few days in Amsterdam I strongly suggest you contact her and reserve her flat ... I hope to be her guest again in the future.
We had a lovely welcome to a lovely apartment, a real home from home. We're sorry that we didn't get a chance to meet Pieternel, but she looked after us very well even from a distance.

Hello airbnb people!
Welcome to my profile. :-) I really love the concept of airbnb and am happy to host so many wonderful people from all over the world. I enjoy making people feel welcome and comfortable in my home. I also try to use airbnb when I travel as much as possible. It's such a great way to experience a city / new place.
I am Dutch, was born and raised in the South of Holland, but have lived, studied and worked abroad, mainly in the US (West and East coast). I work in education, with undergraduate university students as well as adolescents. I speak fluent Dutch, English and Brazilian Portuguese; I understand some Spanish and German.
I love travelling, discovering new, hidden-away places, street art, cooking, hanging out with friends, Latin-American music, photography, reading a book. I recently got a racing bike and love cycling. I lead an active lifestyle - working, cycling, taking Zumba and Pilates classes and seeing friends. Spring and summer are my favorite seasons, I love the light and warmth ( I live on the wrong continent! ;-)!
I love living in vibrant and quaint Amsterdam and look forward to introducing it to more aibnb guests!
