Stay in a cozy 1 BR or 2 BR, upscale Costa Rican-style bungalows with a pristine pool at your doorstep. Look out over the Pacific ocean from your private balcony and listen to the birds and howler monkeys that call the gardens of Casa Tranquila home.
This one-bedroom architect-designed bungalow comes fully equipped for short stays and month-long getaways. It's perfect for honeymooners or families with up to two kids, as well as small groups of friends.
The kitchen has everything you'll need to eat at home if you wish.
The bungalow has a comfy bed, with a TV in the bedroom, air conditioning throughout, a daybed that fits two people in the living space.
The bathroom has a huge glassed-in shower with a big window to the gardens, where monkeys pass regularly.
Just outside your door is a cool swimming pool and wooden deck for relaxing, as well as plenty of hammocks.
Casa Tranquila was designed with sustainability in mind. The property takes advantage of sea breezes for passive cooling, minimizing the need for A/C. The graywater from your bungalow feeds into the banana trees and other plants that surround the property instead of washing into the ocean.
Guests can take advantage of the pool, fire pit area, edible gardens and secure, off-street parking. We have laundry (washer/dryer) on-site as well. Fee per load. ($20USD)
Interaction with Guests
The owner/architect lives on the same property as your bungalow.
Casa Tranquila is located on a hill in a quiet, residential neighborhood of Tamarindo – far enough from the busy downtown that you won't be kept awake by the parties but close enough that you're just a 10 minute walk away from the center of town or 14 minutes to the beach.
You can easily walk all of Tamarindo, or see the town and beach by bike. There is secure off street parking for 2 cars. Best is fly to Liberia International Airport. Just one hour drive to your bungalow. You can book a shuttle or rent a car.
Other Things to Note
The property of Casa Tranquila was designed to protect the habitat of the howler monkeys that travel through the area. The monkeys can often be seen eating the flowers and papayas on the property, and sometimes you'll hear them walking across your roof!
The property has 3 bungalows: your oceanview bungalow by the pool, a 2-bedroom casita and the owner/architect's house. All are separated by old-growth trees and lots of colorful vegetation to make you feel like you are living in an almost untouched slice of Tamarindo.

Jose and his dog were incredibly welcoming and warm. Loved having a pool on the property to cool off in during the hot days.
Would echo other commenters re: the cleanliness of the bathroom (it could use a good scrub). Additionally, there is a nocturnal rooster (not something in Jose's control) but earplugs would be highly suggested.
Jose was very welcoming, he was around to answer questions but gave us a lot of space and privacy. The bungalow was really cute and private. We were a little dissappointed with cleanliness of the bathroom, and the shower head was broken, but a message to Jose and he was there to fix everything.
We had a very fun week in Tamarindo; Jose is a very nice and helpful guy. The poolside bungalow was a nice little place to live with a beautiful view on the ocean. The pool was also a plus after a long day at the beach. The way the three bungalows are situated allows for every guests' privacy. The only problem we had were the neighbour's roosters...they are vey loud, starting at 2 AM until about 8 AM (earplugs a must!)
The bungalow was a great place to stay while in tamarindo. You are located above the bustle of town (and have roosters next door that let you know!). The front porch is an excellent place for bird watching and the pool (just steps away) offers a way to cool down any time of day. If driving in, your car is safe inside the gate but parking is a bit tight. Jose is available to answer questions but does not intrude on any of comings and goings. The place is a fun and easy place to stay in
This is a perfect bungalow for solo traveler or a couple (or more if you utilize the couch/bed up front), perfect space and room for a quiet stay in Tamarindo while still being super close to all the activity of the town and beach. It have an awesome deck out front that has a view down to the beach. The little kitchen is perfect for while meals or just prepping some quick snacks (both bungalows are fully stocked).
It's about a 15 minute walk from the main strip, so it's super convenient, but still removed from loudness and craziness. Borrow one of the bikes and the short trek into town is even better - you can make it down the hill in 3 to 5 minutes, and back up the hill to the bungalow in about 5 to 7 minutes (the hill in a bit steep, but still not bad at all).
I would highly recommend this place (both bungalows) to anyone visiting Tamarindo that wants more that just the chain hotel experience.
We had a wonderful experience at Casa Tranquila. Loved our kitchen, the pool, & Jose's dogs! Perfect place to stay if you want to relax but also have a great time in Tamarindo! Enjoyed our walks to and from town.
Jose made us feel so welcome, in fact he said "welcome home" upon letting us into our bungalo. The walk is about 10 minutes into town and to the beach - but we knew that going in and decided to look at it as our little workout for the day. We also loved his dog, Guapa and the view was spectacular. Highly recommended!

Costa Rica is all about the 'pura vida': living the pure life, the good life. For us, there's nothing better than living in paradise, surrounded by tropical vegetation and animals, plus friendly people, while enjoying the amenities of a modern-day lifestyle. So we built our home amid tall, old-growth trees where flowers bloom in the summer and the leaves explode with green in the winter, so we can listen to the wind in the branches, hear birds chirping and monkeys howling.
We surf, we travel, we laugh. We hope you join us to do the same. Pura vida!
