About this listing

Stay in a cozy 1 BR or 2 BR, upscale Costa Rican-style bungalows with a pristine pool at your doorstep. Look out over the trees to the Pacific ocean from your private balcony and listen to the birds and howler monkeys that call the gardens of Casa Tranquila home.

The space

This one-bedroom architect-designed bungalow comes fully equipped for short stays and month-long getaways. It's perfect for honeymooners or families with up to two kids, as well as small groups of friends.
The kitchenette has everything you'll need to eat at home if you wish.
The bungalow has a comfy bed, air conditioning throughout, a daybed that fits two people in the living space.
The bathroom has a huge glassed-in shower with a big window to the gardens, where monkeys pass regularly.
Just outside your door is a cool swimming pool and wooden deck for relaxing, as well as plenty of hammocks.
Casa Tranquila was designed with sustainability in mind. The property takes advantage of sea breezes for passive cooling, minimizing the need for A/C. The gray water from your bungalow feeds into the trees and other plants that surround the property instead of washing into the ocean.

Guest access

Guests can take advantage of the swimming pool and secure 'off-street' parking. We have laundry (washer/dryer) on-site as well. Fee per load. ($20USD).

Interaction with guests

The owner/architect lives on the same property as your bungalow.

Other things to note

The property of Casa Tranquila was designed to protect the habitat of the howler monkeys that travel through the area. The monkeys can often be seen eating the flowers and papayas on the property, and sometimes you'll hear them walking across your roof!
The property has 3 bungalows: your oceanview bungalow by the pool, a 2-bedroom casita and the owner/architect's house. All are separated by old-growth trees and lots of colorful vegetation to make you feel like you are living in an almost untouched slice of Tamarindo.

Jose is an amazing host! Very available and very helpful with the property and with our adventures! The pool was a necessity after the hot days at the beach and even after the short walk back each day we needed a soak!

Nice small bungalow. Ocean view obstructed by power line cables and fence. Detached but in close proximity to owner's house and other bungalow. Shared pool.

Jose and Ali have an awesome location. While it's somewhat far from the hustle and bustle, you can still walk to town. This space has your basic necessities, but be prepared for bugs in the house. It seems like a typical thing anywhere in this area though. The pool is a huge plus and their dog, Guapa, is the sweetest dog I've ever met. Jose directed us to the best breakfast spots, La Bodega, The Green Papaya, and Nordico coffee house were some of our favorites. Very genuine and kind people, I enjoyed their company and their home! Comfortable place to unplug and unwind.

We enjoyed our stay as much as we could considering the extreme heat that April packs. The unit does have an AC unit however we felt like it didn't get the front kitchen area and other bed area as cool as we'd have probably preferred. The Wifi signal wasn't great. For us because we had to kill some time in the house mid day with a little one during nap time it was a bit of a bummer when the signal wasn't working. Be ready for bugs in the house. We experienced them mostly in the late afternoon and evening pretty much throughout the entire house. The really nice dog on the grounds, Guapa, is indeed super sweet however for whatever reason during our time here she was barking ALL night. With these things said if we hadn't of had to spend as much time inside because of the heat we probably wouldn't have even noticed any of the above. The place really is a cute, quiet bungalow. We even had some amazing neighbors in the other unit while we were there that had kids as well so we were able to hang out with them for a few days and have a buddy for our daughter. I highly recommend a car if you are staying here. It's a bit outside town and the hill it's on is a little hectic.

Joses place offered us serenity when we needed it, away from the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo, the pool paid off dearly in late march and the warm nights offered a nice view

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Tranquilla. It was close enough to the beach that we could get there easily, and the pool gave us a great place to rest and relax in the afternoon heat. The place is at the top of a big hill, which made us wish we had rented a golf cart some days, but we all stuck it out and got some great exercise walking. We enjoyed Guapa the dog visiting us, as well as parrots and all sorts of birds, frogs, geckos and iguanas outside our bungalow! We highly recommend Casa Tranquilla, would definitely stay again!

Costa Rica is all about the 'pura vida': living the pure life, the good life. For us, there's nothing better than living in paradise, surrounded by tropical vegetation and animals, plus friendly people, while enjoying the amenities of a modern-day lifestyle. So we built our home amid tall, old-growth trees where flowers bloom in the summer and the leaves explode with green in the winter, so we can listen to the wind in the branches, hear birds chirping and monkeys howling.
We surf, we travel, we laugh. We hope you join us to do the same. Pura vida!
