Architect built, Frank Lloyd Wright style Mid-Century Modern home in a neighborhood known for it's unique architecture. The passive solar house is surrounded by trees and Japanese Gardens. 10 min from downtown Mpls. and close to U of MN St Paul campus. Great friendly neighborhood in walking distance to grocery store, shopping, book store, yoga studio, coffee shops and great restaurants.

The space

Huge wall of windows overlooking gardens, complete privacy, black slate floors, marble floors in kitchen + bath, radiant in-floor heat, passive solar, stainless steel appliances, cement countertops, post and beam construction, all wood ceiling and walls, art collection. Second bedroom doubles as Media Room with 55" 4K HDR Ultra HDTV system. The whole house is surrounded by large trees and Japanese Gardens.

Guest access

Whole main floor of house including full kitchen, full bath, large living room with stunning view, treadmill in exercise room, laundry room downstairs, screen porch, patio. You can also use the patio or stroll the Japanese gardens surrounding house.

Interaction with guests

I will be out of town on assignment or teaching a photo workshop or at my cabin (the Trade River Retreat Center) when the house is available but am always accessible via email or cell phone for any questions. I do have a Studio Manager often working in my office downstairs. The office is in a completely separate apartment with it's own entrance.

Other things to note

Eclectic blend of Japanese and Southwestern Native American aesthetic with lots of art and sculpture throughout. Very private, quiet and tranquil setting nestled in among the trees. Complete seclusion with the summer foliage, unique to an urban setting. All organic cotton sheets and towels provided. House is passive solar and all electricity is bought from off site renewable solar and wind sources. Early check in and late check out usually available upon request.

Home is just as described in the listing. Very comfortable and serene. It is in a peaceful neighborhood just a short walk from University campus and a short drive from downtown St. Paul.

Douglas User Profile

I am a fine art photographer, photo workshop instructor and lover of strong coffee & loud music that travels constantly. I love beauty in many forms and am very influenced by Japanese style, gardens and architecture. My house reflects my interest in Mid-Century Modern and ecologically sustainable architecture and the decor is a blend of Native American and Eastern spirituality.
