Interaction with guests

I will be out of town or at my cabin (the Trade River Retreat Center) when the house is available. Simone, my housekeeper, lives in a separate downstairs apartment, with it's own entrance, and is available if there are any questions or concerns.

The neighborhood

It's like being in a small town in the heart of the city. 2 blocks to great little grocery store, gift shops, independent bookstore, wine shop, post office and several great restaurants. Small nature preserve across the street behind the seminary. Just blocks from St Paul U of MN campus. Voted best neighborhood for architecture in the Twin Cities.

Other things to note

Eclectic blend of Japanese and Southwestern Native American aesthetic with lots of art and sculpture throughout. Very private, quiet and tranquil setting nestled in among the trees. We found Douglas' place to be a gorgeous and revitalizing place to stay. Honestly wish we could have stayed longer. Clean, beautiful rooms connect to each other and nature in a way that makes you feel cozy and perhaps a little lighter. It was close to everything we needed to get to in Mpls and St. Paul during our otherwise hectic weekend. Would recommend to anyone, especially creatives looking for a dose of inspiration during their time away.

Douglas User Profile

I am a fine art photographer, photo workshop instructor and lover of strong coffee & loud music that travels constantly. I love beauty in many forms and am very influenced by Japanese style, gardens and architecture. My house reflects my interest in Mid-Century Modern and ecologically sustainable architecture and the decor is a blend of Native American and Eastern spirituality.
