The space

The Desert Moon Retreat Guest House, on the same property as the Desert Moon Retreat, reveals spectacular mountain and desert views. The walled in landscape has been carefully planted with unique desert botanicals. A detached quest house, it faces the pool and contains many amenities, including internet access, flat screen TV with satellite dish, kitchen, full bath and a very comfortable queen size bed. The sitting area has a sofa that pulls out to a full size bed. A charming outdoor sitting area faces the pool and is great for dining al fresco-a perfect place for morning coffee and wildlife viewing. An outdoor grill is there also. Other sitting areas on the property allow for outdoor enjoyment of the various areas of the property. A citrus grove was planted for guests who might like some fresh orange juice, grapefruit, or perhaps a squeeze of lemon in their tea. Parking is available within close proximity to the guest house and is off street. This is a great place to stay for those interested in hiking the nearby Santa Catalina Mountains, or winter skiing at Mount Lemmon. Bicycle enthusiasts will enjoy the long stretch of nearby Brad Goreman Bike-way or riding up Catalina Highway. It is also perfect for those merely wanting a relaxing getaway. This is a unique desert experience!

This place is even better than the photos. Much more spacious. We were close enough to hiking and all the essentials. Hope to come back to this treasure again!

Response from Carla:
Thank you, Jennifer, for taking time to write. We are glad you enjoyed the place and hope you got some good hiking in! So many places in this area to hike, and then relax in our pool, hot tub or in a lounge chair out in the various landscapes-my favorite spot is on the deck where wildlife traverse through the wash. Thanks again for staying at our place, we appreciate your business. Come back again, anytime!

The guest house at Desert Moon Retreat was a treat. Although very cozy it was very functional for two and had everything needed for a short stay. The AC worked well and the queen sized bed was very comfortable. It was also nicely furnished and clean and the architecture was amazing. What made this space really special is that it is on and a part of the Desert Moon Retreat which has a magical desert zen enclosure with lots of outdoor space with a wonderful pool that has a small waterfall and is surrounded by a gorgeous cactus garden separated by a short wall from a native desert environment of majestic saguaros and other cacti and mesquite trees lively with birds and animals. It is a very peaceful, quiet, and secluded environment perfect for relaxing and skinny dipping (we were lucky that the main house was vacant during our stay). We also got to witness the first monsoon of the season while there. There was also a hot tub spa (which we didn’t use because it was hot during our stay) and a BBQ. We liked it so much that we rented the main house for the next two nights (that is on a whole other level of awesome). Carla was a very gracious host and we had the opportunity to have a nice chat with her. We would highly recommend the guest house (and especially the main house) and can’t wait until our next opportunity to return.

Absolutely outstanding! I am an avid Air Bnb user and am in love with Air Bnb because of what it offers to the traveling community with a raw desire for unique, one of a kind experiences. In this case, my husband and I were contemplating on where and how to celebrate the 4th of July holiday, however knew we did not want to travel too far from home. We panned out in the search and happened upon Carla's awe inspiring Tucson guesthouse. The guesthouse, main home, area, architecture, views, every single aspect were absolutely outstanding! My husband and I agree, for sure the BEST Air Bnb experience we have had and I repeat, we have traveled to a tree house in Hawaii, chateau in Europe, yurt in Topanga, CA....this guesthouse was absolutely perfect!!! The home is located in Mount Lemmon, which, who knew, not me, that is for sure, is the most PERFECT spot in Tucson. It is about 25 minutes outside of the city center, however nestled among massive Saguaros, beautiful desert life and of course, in the outstanding foothills of Tucson. It is also only 15 minutes away from Sabino Canyon Rec Center where we enjoyed the 9ish mile trek to 7 Falls--one of the best waterfalls in AZ to take in! Okay, about the home, specifically, now. First and foremost, you are immediately immersed in serenity as you drive through the small winding driveway to parking. The parking is spacious and includes desert landscape around it--very refreshing compared to paved concrete jungles. From there, you see the super fun, purple, Adobe style home and guesthouse. A quick walk through the gate opens your eyes to the best of it all--the beautiful 6 1/2ish ft pool, surrounded by the most beautiful rocks, cactus and succulents!!! From the pool area, you hand a right, up a few steps to a private sitting area with two very comfortable loungers, ottoman for kicking up your feet and a two person mosaic coffee table with the cutest iron design. Keep in mind, this entire space overlooks the outstanding desert mountains and vegetation! The guest home itself, is the absolute perfect size. You walk into a little living space with a mounted TV (every channel possible included), very comfy futon and reclining modern-like leather chair and ottoman. The living space comes equipped with many local guides to Tucson that we found very helpful! Walk up a few winding stone stairs and you are among the sleeping area and kitchen. BEST PARTS! -The exceptionally comfortable bed that sits right next to a floor to ceiling glass window overlooking a very large Saguaro and nature!!!! The birds chirping in the morning, gliding from tree to tree is perfect! -THE POOL! The best temperature with lovely loungers and a bubbling stone waterfall to settle you into a peaceful state! -The truly unique, authentic, one of a kind architecture and design -The flawless communication with hosts and easy check in and check out -THE AREA--perfect location!!! Inspiration...

Kayla! This was the loveliest review I have ever read! You really said it all, didn't you? Your comments were so thoughtful, specific, and in great detail...thank you for that. I think your comments will help others when they are deciding where to stay. One thing I must mention, however, the home is not located in Mount Lemmon, but is near Catalina Highway, which is the road you would take to go up to Mount Lemmon (about a 45 minute to one hour drive from the house). Thanks again for taking time to write such descriptive comments! We appreciate that and we welcome you and your husband back again anytime! Who knows, maybe if you come back I will have had the chance to add the "zen labyrinth" between the backyard courtyard walls and the wash for those wanting a zen moment or a place to do some yoga. We are not finished landscaping our three acres!

This as a beautiful, quiet setting with great views of mountains and saguaros. We enjoyed watching birds play in the water at the edge of the pool. The Casita is cozy with all the amenities needed for a great stay. Carla is very friendly and readily available.

Perfect for two people to stat. The pool, hot tub, and grill are very nice accomodations. The unit itself had everything you need for a nice weekend in the desert. Would definitely stay again.

Carla's guest house was perfect. Absolutely stunning location, the pool and hot tub were the icing on the cake. The place is pretty far from Tucson proper but the quiet/private scenic location was just what we were hoping for, and the price can't be beat! 10/10 would stay again!
