The Space

This room in a modern tastefully renovated apartment, in the historic outskirts of Bilbao's old town, a stone's throw from the main train station Abando, in the up and coming gritty neighborhood of San Francisco, home to the newest and hippest creative businesses and a pleasant stroll down a block or two to some of the best Restaurants in town.

The room is furnished with a double bed. WiFi is available in the house, a modern kitchen with all amenities including an oven for delicious meals (one of the biggest fresh produce markets in Europe is 6 minutes away!).

We are extremely experienced hosts, having received more than 160 people so far and counting, through other hosting networks, passionate about our city and interested in not only it's history and attractions, but also about it's culture and politics, we will do everything in our power to show you the best foodie spots, relaxed bars, cafès and pintxo bars in town. And one of your hosts, Douglas is a native English speaker, apart form knowing another 6 languages, and hopefully smoothing out any possible communication problems as your joint host with Antxoka, the Basque owner of the apartment.

--Note for 3 people--
The room has one double bed, and that accommodates 2 people, to accommodate one more we have the possibility of pushing the bed to one side and fitting a little mattress on the floor next to the bed. Or the third person can choose to sleep in the living room which is open to the rest of the house and does not have a door.

  • Apartment and room is ok but only problem about location. Location called San Fransisco :)
    But nothing happened about security.
    Thank you Douglas...

  • Douglas and Antxoka are very nice, friendly and easy-going people. It was a pleasure to stay in their flat for a few days. The flat makes you feel home and it is as cozy as pictured in the photos.

Douglas and Antxoka were very flexible in arranging the stay in order to make us feel comfortable as much as possible. The communication was quick and easy too.

We appreciated the entire stay and cooperation with the hosts. Therefore we can very recommend being hosted by Douglas and Antxoka.

    Thanks again,
    Oli and Ingo

  • Douglas gave us great directions to the apartment. He gave us a history lesson as well as a map and points of interest to visit. He is very knowledgeable about the area. The house is in a great location for getting around the city.

We were only disappointed with the bed and the pillows. The only 2 pillows were small and very odd. It was rather uncomfortable so we were glad it was only for 2 nights.

  • Douglas was a really friendly host -gave us plenty of great tips about the best pinxos bars (and there are lots to choose from) and we enjoyed a great night in Bilbao. Shame we couldn't stay for more than a fleeting visit. The flat is lovely and we felt very much at home in our room. It's just a short walk into the old part of town and right next to a cercanias station, which is handy. I'd recommend this as a central place to stay with a lovely host. Hopefully we'll be back!

  • Douglas and Antxoka, thank you so much for your welcome, for your share, for your availability and your introduction in Bilbao's life and culture.... I spend a so nice time that I will have to come back to visit you again!
I apreciate your easy going, the simplicity of the flat, confortable, clean, warm. The place is so close to everything, your explaining and instructions to come are very helpful and it was so easy to come.
    See you again guys!!!!

  • Douglas and Antxoka were extremely hospitable hosts who were ready to answer all our questions about Bilbao and the Basque country (no matter how stupid), they showed us the best places to eat and go out, and the standard of their place was top notch. A 5 star rating doesn't do them grace!

  • We had a good stay in Bilbao. Douglas was friendly and helpful. Good location close to train station and old town.

  • Very efficient booking process and good communication. Friendly and unobtrusive hospitality in this pleasantly renovated apartment, though the building's staircase is in dire need of renovation (it looks like work is in progress but I guess this could take some time), and area of town may not be to everyone's liking: great if you like popular, lively and somewhat edgy environments (though overall the place feels quite safe if you are minimally streetwise); you may not like it if you fancy more upmarket neighbourhoods. The area is super-central and convenient for most sights and travel transfers. Especially grateful to Douglas for dealing within minutes with my very last-moment booking ensuring that I had a roof over my head on arrival in Bilbao. The flat could have been tidier and cleaner- but I put this down to the extreme late-momentness of my booking, and to the fact that when I arrived Antxoca (sorry not sure of spelling) was away. In any case huge thanks to both him and Douglas and for very useful info on city and Basque Country and for their friendly, easygoing hospitality.

  • Great stay, clean house, nearby to the all attractions and heart of city. Ideally for short stay touch and go as me and my friends we did it.
