A gorgeous country location set in woodlands with large gardens, a pool and country walks right in the middle of the sunflower growing region of Languedoc Roussillon and only 10 minutes from the nearest town of Castelnaudary with all its amenities.
A tranquil setting that was three hundred years in the making, no passing traffic, only the wildlife and stars, via a crystal clear sky, for company. Ideal for a party of eight 4 double bedrooms, two with en-suite facilities. All on one level, so no steps for toddlers, or the more mature. This is a ‘one-apartment’ establishment; just the owners, and your own self-contained spacious accommodation with a great pool for your exclusive use during the summer months. You can walk in our woods, visit the local villages; lap up the tranquillity, do everything, or do nothing, the choice is yours.
We think our previous guests can tell you more about our apartment than we ever could:
"We have had such a wonderful time again! We love this place! The house has everything anyone would ever want! We all love the pool - so refreshing in the heat. Fantastic weather. Thank you so much for your generous and genuine hospitality and welcome. We'll be back" .
In summary, the accommodation comprises of a sitting room (with UK TV), 4 bedrooms, 2 of which are en suite with showers, a further family bathroom and a well equipped kitchen. Laundry facilities include an automatic washing machine, ironing board and iron. WIFI is available for Internet connection and the kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher.
There are also large gardens in which to roam and a lovely swimming pool (closed from October to April) with patio area where you can relax. The alfresco eating area is at the entrance to the apartment and is a great place to barbecue and relax in the evenings.
Le Moulin sits just outside the little village of Issel which is about halfway between Castelnaudary and Revel and has easy access to the Mediterranean coast and the Pyrenean mountain range. Revel and Castelnaudary are about 15 minutes and 10 minutes’ drive away respectively and provide access to local amenities including restaurants, bars, shops and banks.
The region is famous for “les Chateaux du pays Cathar” with local castles, towns and villages dating back over 800 years. Historic towns such as Revel, Mirepoix, Foix, Fanjeaux, Limoux and Castres can all be reached within 30-60 minutes as can the three noted wine regions of the area– Fitou, Corbieres, and Minervois. The nearest market town of Castelnaudary is famous for its cassoulet, which is served in almost every restaurant in town and sits astride the Canal Du Midi a world heritage site.
There are two lakes – le Lac de la Ganguise and the Lac de St Ferreol within 20 minutes of Le Moulin which both have beaches and various activities for all ages, including walking, sailing and (at St Ferreol) pedaloes and mini-golf.
Lots to do and see and for hikers you can walk straight off the property or visit the nearby Black Mountains National Park with its extensive woods, lakes and rivers. Ideal hiking territory.
Guests have access to the large gardens, pool and the country walks off the property. So you can relax in the grounds or ramble through the French countryside to your hearts content.
The property is split into two large apartments with their own private entrances. So we will be on hand to answer questions, look after the pool and assist as required.
This is a truly tranquil setting in a gorgeous country location, the walks from the property can take you to viewpoints where you can take in the splendour of the Pyrenees, visit our local medieval village of Issel or you can go a little further afield to explore the history of the Cathars and the fortresses dotted all around the region.
A car is essential to make the most of this location and the points of interest all around us, many of which date back to the medieval period and the persecution of the Cathars.
Together with 5 friends I stayed at Brian's Former Watermill for 4 nights as we all attended a wedding in the area. Brian and his wife were very pleasant and friendly hosts and we had a great time at the Former Watermill. The property was clean and comfortable and provided all the amenities one could ask for. The surrounding area is beautiful and well worth a visit. I would certainly come and stay again.
We had a wonderful stay here. The house was more beautiful than the pictures can show and immaculately clean. Brian and his wife were lovely hosts, greeted us when we arrived (late!) and had a bottle of wine waiting on the table. We took their advice and went to a lovely market in a neighboring town. The kitchen is easy to use, there is a cozy sitting room and the grounds outside are lovely in the sunshine. We didn't want to leave!
We had a great time in family in former watermill. We highly recommend this house, it is even better than in pictures. It is cozy and warm, even in winter, and the owners keeps it extremly clean. The surroundings are beautiful, you feel in the middle of nature. Thanks for this lovely stay!!
